Does anyone else live in the area or have any idea what happened last night around 9:36 pm? We have the flashes on our security cams and the first one happened just short of 9:36. Honestly it sounded like something smacked the front of our house. I was right in the middle of something so it took me a few minutes to go to the front door and look out and right about then it happened twice back to back and the was some sort of flash. My MIL was convinced it was gunfire and slammed the door shut and called the cops. About 10 minutes later a police car flew down our street and you could hear a helicopter. My FIL is convinced it was a transformer blowing but no one lost electric. Anyone have any info on what it might have been?

I'm starting to hear fireworks already. Is is possible someone launched something that landed on your porch? Maybe not directly aimed at you, but went awry?

I was standing at the front door when the back to back ones went off and didnt see what i would have thought of as a firework unless it was a firework gone wrong. It would have had to a been a large one because I know what m80s sound like and it was way louder. There was 3 separate distinct bangs. Although 2 were back to back. The first one where i wasn't looking out and just heard definitely shook our bedroom window and i honest thought someone hit our car in the driveway at first. It was also a very fast very bright flash. Bright enough to be seen on the front and back cameras but to the east side, not right in front of the camera.
Some lucky daddy got a mortar for Father's Day. Lucky.

It could have been a transformer. Sometimes squirrels get up on them, resulting in a very bright flash, loud boom and burst of fur. Had the same thing happen behind our house back when we lived in Mayfair, and it gave us quite a start.

The only other thing I could think of is there is a type of aerial shell fireworks called a "maroon" which basically just goes up and explodes with a bright flash and loud boom. They use a pyrotechnic composition similar to flashlight crackers (black cats) and M-80s - except a lot more of it. Maybe that's what it was... though I think those are only available to the pros, not to consumers.
Aside from that... no idea.

We have had many suicidal squirrels where I live. Don't know if it's due to the hassle of constantly playing dodge dawgs in the various yards in the neighborhood, or if it is diet related. Whatever the reasons, it' does seem a dance on a transformer (perhaps listening to some old Kenny Rogers tunes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI5wFcmoSEM ) is a favorite way of departing this existence.

Funny thing, last night I woke up to go to the restroom, and when I was back in bed, I heard a lot of booms, or even quieter gun shot noises but they varied in intensity and I live on five acres East of Frontier City (I-35 and 122nd) and we don't have a lot of transformers. Very strange. Of course, I took my normal course of action and went back to sleep.
