They announced today Better Than Ezra and The Wallflowers will be performing their inaugural concert on 7/29, tickets are on sale now.

Interesting it wasn't one of the 3 performers Hall said initially.

honestly, i wasn't aware these 2 bands were still around. both good, just haven't been aware of them lately.

Unfortunately there are a lot of good artists/bands people aren't aware of... Not sure where to lay the blame for that but when about 95% of what I listen to never gets any local radio play.... I'd have to start there possibly... If anyone still listens to the radio.

In other news on good artists not getting enough recognition... John Moreland's fourth album, Big Bad Luv, released today..... Maybe he'll get booked to play here.... Was really hoping he was going to tour with Jason Isbell again this summer.

In the video Graham says that the food comes first and that they're going to do 2-3 big shows a month where they dedicate the whole venue to the concert (~1,600 capacity), in addition to black and white concert footage on the big screen during food service and a record player upstairs in the cocktail lounge that people can either pick from the collection there or bring their own in.

This concept is completely different than anything in OKC, really looking forward to it.

Some Assembly required: Film Row’s venue with a menu to open early summer

By: Molly M. Fleming The Journal Record May 15, 2017

OKLAHOMA CITY – The building that is now The Jones Assembly has a high ceiling, an open-air patio, and a view from downtown’s developing west side.

It can hold nearly 1,600 people for a live music event.

But it had to be more than that, said Graham Colton, one of the partners in the project at 901 W. Sheridan Ave. He’s working with Brian Bogert, Kirk and Fred Hall of Hall Capital, and chef Brittany Sanger.

“We didn’t see a financial model of just being a music venue,” he said. “We thought, ‘What does the city need? What can it support? What can we deliver? It felt a hell of a lot bigger than a music venue.”

Bogert said the monthly live music and ticketed events are a small part of the business plan. Tickets are on sale now for the first show, The Wallflowers and Better than Ezra on July 29.

But people should be able to try the fare a few weeks before the show.

“The food and beverage side is what we’re all about,” Bogert said.

Bogert co-founded The Social Order, the restaurant group behind Texadelphia, Fuzzy’s Tacos Shop, and the Norman-based Seven47. He and Colton have been friends for years. Bogert’s dad was Colton’s football coach. Bogert and Colton had talked about having a music venue for a long time. After a visit to Dallas’ The Green Room, which is a high-rated restaurant and music venue, the pair said that’s what they wanted to bring to Oklahoma City.

Sanger said she’s bringing her Le Cordon Bleu background and using it to add elevation to Midwestern classic dishes.

“We have some items that are pushing the limit, but we think they’re still approachable and people will try out of curiosity,” she said.

Born in Oklahoma City, Sanger said she’s excited to return to a fun time in her native town, where people are getting to try a variety of cuisines. She previously worked at Lakewood Art House in Boston, where she learned how to serve more than 200 people every night.

With France and the east coast in her repertoire, she said she’ll be able to set her dishes apart from other menus.

“I think we’re really setting a new bar as far as the different types of cuisines we’re combining into one menu,” she said.

The price point is still being decided, but Sanger said a burger will be about $11 and the starters about $9.

“We want to keep everything reasonable so people will come, love what they taste, come back, and bring their friends,” she said.

But getting to The Jones Assembly is difficult because of road closures. That wasn’t part of the original opening schedule, Bogert said. The neighboring West Residences’ construction plan was originally ahead of The Jones Assembly’s. Then, the West Residence’s work was delayed. Bogert said the partners thought they could open in the fall. Yet, Sheridan Avenue closed in March.

The salaried managing staff had been hired already, so they were eager for The Jones to open as well. Nearly everyone that was hired stayed around and was able to get additional training, such as sommelier classes.

Besides hiring people for an unopen restaurant, focusing on food and beverage meant the building needed a kitchen. An original concept for The Jones Assembly called for an Airstream trailer with a small kitchen that would provide the food.

But then the partners realized they needed a full kitchen. Sanger said she combined the best of her past kitchens to create a space that’s perfect for getting the food efficiently to the guests.

“It was a bigger bet, but it was a no-brainer,” Bogert said.

With millions invested in the renovation, Bogert said the group knows there’s a lot at risk. He’s partnered with a bank that’s supported his projects in the past.

“We wouldn’t take this risk if we didn’t think it was something the city needed,” he said.

Went to Dead Center party on Saturday. This place is amazing and very versatile. Not sure if the 1600 total includes the open roof section, because that wouldn't be a great place to watch the main stage. There is a small stage in the open area that will be great for smaller acts and summertime events. The booths at the front of the balcony / mezzanine would make great VIP seating if they use them for that. I didn't have any food, so I can't speak to that, but I would go there to just hang out at the bar. It may pose some challenges with sound as there are a lot of hard surfaces, but, in the right hands, I think it will work just fine. No doubt it's a very cool addition to our venue inventory and it sounds like Colton wants to have the main stage booked 2-3 times a month and I see it getting a lot of use for special events.

It's super cool space but so large it's hard to imagine how it will be used for a restaurant / bar.

My prediction is that they are going to have to do a fair bit of experimentation to figure that part out, otherwise the place is so cavernous it's going to be hard to not feel empty / dead.

But, hats off for spending a ton of money and doing things right. It's gorgeous and a tremendous asset to OKC. I'm sure the operators will do a great job, it just may take some time to figure some things out.

Yeah, I don't know how it'll be set up for a restaurant. I mean, the upstairs, for the bar and patio, and / or the open air area could work. But I don't if you'd just rope off the main floor or what. Probably just depends on what the demand is and how often they're open without an event.

Is there an entrance just to the open air side? I didn't notice.

I don't think there is a direct way in/out of the patio.

The concern about filling that space also comes from the tremendous amount of construction that will be happening all around for the first year.

Even before the start of all that work, 21c and Mary Eddy's was quite slow on my several visits. It's going to take some time for that area to start drawing crowds.

Jones Assembly makes its case as one of OKC's most beautiful spots (http://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=395-Jones-Assembly-makes-its-case-as-one-of-OKC-s-most-beautiful-spots)

With its grand opening only weeks away, the final pieces are being put in place at the stunning Jones Assembly on Film Row in west downtown Oklahoma City.

http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/jones061917b.jpg

The 20,000 square foot restaurant, bar and live music venue is directly south of the equally impressive 21c Museum Hotel which opened in June of 2016, and together they are driving a resurgence in a once-abandoned area, now overflowing with new construction and investment.

West Village is well into construction and will completely surround Jones and the hotel with 345 new apartment units plus retail and restaurant space.

As a part of the West Village complex, a large parking structure is now under construction to the west of Jones, sure to be needed for the 225 seat restaurant and 1,600 person live music venue.

For quick conversion for events and shows, a creative solution was hatched. The furniture in the middle of the large space breaks down and stores under the adjoining stage.

And huge glass overhead doors can be raised to join the outdoor and indoor spaces.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner 6 days a week with brunch served on Sunday.

The following is from an official press release:

The Jones Assembly constitutes an adaptive re-use of two historic facilities that were formerly part of The Fred Jones Manufacturing Company complex. Collaborating with James Boswell Architect of Tulsa, known for the firm’s wildly successful 2003 revitalization of Cain’s Ballroom, principal partners Brian Bogert, Kirk and Fred Hall of Hall Capital, Graham Colton and Sanger created a destination that revitalizes two century-old historic buildings while creating a new cornerstone for the burgeoning West End area of downtown Oklahoma City.

Bogert, The Social Order’s co-founder, said The Jones Assembly will continue the dining collective’s mission of creating unique concepts for Oklahoma City to spend its days and evenings.

“Since we opened our first restaurant 13 years ago, we’ve surrounded ourselves with creative people,” Bogert said. “From the beginning, we were continually encouraging our line cooks, waitstaff, managers, and all team members to bring new ideas to the table. For me, The Jones Assembly is the culmination of that philosophy: a truly new idea that will be part of the conversation as we continue to talk about this great city’s renaissance.”

Sanger, an Oklahoma City-born chef who trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, said that working on The Jones Assembly is a rare opportunity for any chef: the chance to not only create a unique lunch, dinner and weekend brunch menu but also to design the kitchen for maximum efficiency and superior results. Sanger’s refined regional cuisine menu will include house-made biscuits and artisan breads, fried chicken confit, wood-fired pizza and seasonal fish offerings, among other favorites.

“We have a custom-made, wood-fired oven that I’m really excited about, because it brings out extraordinary flavors in our food,” Sanger said. “But beyond the oven, we were also able to create a workflow in our kitchen that allows for greater efficiency in all stages of prep, and we’ve put together an enormously talented kitchen staff. I’m so proud of the people who will be serving here.”

Colton is an acclaimed singer-songwriter and Oklahoma City entrepreneur who released two albums for Universal Records and toured with John Mayer, Maroon 5 and The Dave Matthews Band before embarking on a successful career as an independent artist. He said The Jones Assembly, which will regularly host touring acts in the Americana, alternative, contemporary and singer-songwriter genres, checks many of the boxes he looks for in a top-notch music venue, then takes it a step further.

“Honestly, I haven’t played anywhere that compares to this place,” Colton said. “As we were planning The Jones Assembly, I had certain things in the back of my mind that I wanted to see. For instance, we can completely open up both the indoor and outdoor spaces so that it can operate as a mid-sized venue or a large concert space.”

Every detail was considered in the restoration and design of this unique, flexible space. Reclaimed wood from the second floor decking was used to build the bar skirt, booths and tables. Brick removed at the openings was used to create herringbone-style pathways in the courtyard. The team enlisted Justin Venk of Facet 14 to help them come up with custom lighting for the space, while Nominee design of Edmond helped bring Bogert and Graham’s ideas for various art installations to life.*The upstairs mezzanine is outfitted with a refurbished turntable and large selection of vinyl records for patrons to peruse and enjoy. The love and celebration of music is a constant theme throughout The Jones Assembly: an entire wall across from the downstairs bar is designed with over 1,000 vintage 8-track tapes.

In the adjacent open-air space, a courtyard nearly equal to the size of the interior area featuring views of the 21c Museum Hotel, high-end speakers and industrial misting systems will keep patrons cool, comfortable and entertained during Oklahoma’s hot summers.

“A great patio can make all the difference,” Bogert said. “Every place is better with one, and that’s why when we planned The Jones Assembly, we wanted an outdoor space that rivals anything we’ve seen in our travels. This one creates open space with an urban feel.”

Went to a soft opening yesterday. I can't really put into words how wonderful this place is. Even Pete's beautiful pictures can't totally do it justice. There is literally not a single surface that wasn't thoughtfully designed/executed, or where corners were cut. It's pretty much perfect. The food and drinks were also great. It has to instantly be a top ten club venue in the U.S., at least as far as finish and sophistication. If not better.

Also Graham mentioned that they will soon be announcing a show that even he seemed semi-incredulous that they landed. I think once word gets out regarding how phenomenal the venue is, it will be drawing some great artists.

I sure hope people treat the place with some respect.... When I was at a show at The Granada in Dallas recently I noticed people at least put their empties on the ledges instead of throwing them in the floor.... I've been to a few shows at Cain's that it was like walking through a war zone trying to get out of there.
