Quite an interesting thread.
Forgive me if I missed it somewhere in the thread, but what was the building prior, historically speaking, and any idea on when it was built? In particular, the NW corner of the building at Main St and Classen. I ask because, strangely enough, my wife is a medium and the last time we went by the building in early May, she said the upper windows were full of people. No jokes, please.

If you saw people in the upper windows of the building at Main and Classen, it was probably the guys doing the reno to the Fred Jones building which is going to be the 21C hotel.

That's the thing. They weren't "people" people. They were long gone spirits.
My wife has a gift and sees the spirits of those departed.
We're trying to figure out if this is an old factory that had tragedy long ago or for some reason had numbers of people who for one reason or another, still linger on the property. It is not by any means "haunted", just occupied.

The building was built in 1915 by the Ford Motor Co. to make the Model T. Some time later, it was converted into a warehouse and parts distribution depot. In 1967, Fred Jones Enterprises bought the building and continued the parts distribution business. During this time, the building was also home to Fred Jones Manufacturing, who remanufactured engines and transmissions for Ford.

Well, you said people, so I took you at your word. But yeah, you're gonna see people in there as they're working hard to get the place reno'd.

Turns out that I'm a medium too. For the longest time I thought I was a large. I was just wearing the wrong size.

Building permit applications were filed for this project last Friday.

Should start to see some action there soon.

BTW, it appears they have settled on the name "The Jones Assembly".

When they get started they do not mess around! This is all so exciting!

Before the transformation begins it's worth noting that had the developers instead requested demolition permits for those nondescript buildings - which have not been utilized for anything other than storage for decades - they would have met little resistance. And had anyone raised their voice in protest, they would have been loudly shouted down by some.

In this case, the developers made the CHOICE to retain these buildings, and it will soon pay off in the form of space with character that cannot be easily replicated by new construction. Keep the before pics handy.

Pete

Yes, will add a lot of character to that corner and be a nice complement to all the new construction around 21c.

From this morning; note they have widened the openings on the group floor in preparation for much larger windows as seen in the renderings:

Looks like the sills have been lowered in the one-story building on the left, by removing courses of brick below. ALL of the courses below the sills in the building on the right have been removed, but considering the way the brick is stacked in front they may still be planning on building the sills back up a bit..? Will have to check construction drawing to see.

Other than that, it appears that instead of being an alteration this is really more of a restoration of the window openings to their original size and configuration (though taller). The (removed) glass block and brick above were not original to the building. This is a big improvement. Hopefully the little building gets thoughtful modern replica casement windows like were installed in 21c.

Does anyone know if there are plans to extend the P<180 streetscape along Sheridan and Main St. around this development and 21C?

They have already adopted the P180 standards for the sidewalks around the hotel (most of the work is now complete) and will be doing the same for the Residences at 21c, so that's a big chunk of both those areas.

I haven't heard anything about completely redoing the streets, however. That would have to come out of the General Obligation bonds or TIF, because there is no room in the P180 budget.

I noticed the sidewalks appeared to conform to P180 standards. I just didn't know if there were plans to reorganize the actual street like what had been done through Film Row?

Not sure, Fred Jones will be one way north bound with angle parking on the right (east). New storm and waterlines for Residences at 21c go in the middle of Fred Jones and also the westbound lane of Sheridan. There will be angled parking fronting Jones Assembly and building C of Residences at 21c.

I was speaking to one of theFilm Row stakeholders from the west end of Sheridan and he told me that the development group paid for the sidewalks and the street repairs as the city wasn't going to install them. They paid for the sidewalks in front of other businesses so it would all look the same.

They're getting close to finished on the inside, and they were shooting to be open in the next month or two. From what I've heard their opening is going to be delayed ~6 months due to road construction which would block their entrance.

It's time for this venue to go into the entertainment area for discussion. Here is an update on an upcoming concert.

http://m.newsok.com/article/5545012

The Jones Assembly, a newly renovated dining and music destination at 901 W Sheridan Ave., shared details for one of its inaugural*concerts. Organizers revealed*Tuesday that tickets for Lake Street Dive will go on sale 9 a.m. Friday for an Aug. 18 concert date. It'll cost between $25-$40 per ticket to*catch the soulful Boston-based band in Oklahoma City.

Managing partner and Okie musician Graham Colton sat down with The Oklahoman*to share that although this is the first official concert news from the venue, it's won't be the first show. More concert dates*will emerge closer to The Jones Assembly's summer opening, including information about the venue's debut concert.

They've already said it will be Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald or Kings of Leon, and when they took a poll early on on who people here would like to see they were the favorite. Not saying that it's a given, but with the Halls' strong Nashville ties it is a definite possibility. It is also not unusual for venues to bring a big act in for the first show.

Yep, the deep pockets of the Hall family made the 21c possible long before this area was really economically viable for an upscale hotel, the very ambitious Jones project (it's incredibly impressive on the inside) and then having the West Village complex all built at once.

Will be a stunning transformation of a large area in a short time.
