Jersey Boss 01-20-2020, 09:17 AM Who supplies local 7-11 their gasoline and why are they considered subpar? I’ve used their gas for years and never have seen any difference from that I’ve purchased elsewhere.
It is not so much a "who" as a "what". Google the term "Top Tier Gas" and you will find why myself and others prefer fuel with this designation. 7-11 does not offer this product.
DowntownMan 01-20-2020, 09:21 AM I wonder if this means we might be able to get a 7/11 downtown or somewhere nearby in an urban storefront model

And most of the time OnCue's gas is only a penny higher than the gas that 7-11 sells.
Just wish OnCue would start accepting payment using the Phillip's 66 app so I could save another $0.15 to $0.25 a gallon on it instead of just $0.05 for using the gas card.

So, OnCue is not listed as Top Tier, but Phillips is. So WHO supplies is important. Who supplies what to 7-11? How about Sams?

A quick way to determine is the pump will have a top tier decal affixed to the pump. On Cue and Circle K clearly identify the brand of gas they use and the sticker is on the pumps. Wal Mart, Sams, and 7-11 neither have the sticker or identify what gas company supplies them. Stick with On Cue or Circle K for branded fuel.

This is not true if your car requires Super Unleaded. The 7-11 near my house marks up Super Unleaded $.36 per gallon. At OnCue, you're looking at a markup of $.50 per gallon from the 100% gas price.

It appears that they may have purchased the bowling alley next to the existing store. The bowling alley has been bored up and the parking lot has been blocked.

I've had more than one mechanic type suggest I steer clear of 7-11 gas; not necessarily because it's bad, but because the lowesst-common-denominator sourcing makes quality and consistency almost impossible to predict. And when it's bad, it's awful.

That was the plan but I'm told it's on hold until the merger (take over) is complete. Who know what happens then!

I know they bought all that led with the plan of building a new corporate office. I'm sure the corporate office part of the plan is either cancelled or significantly scaled back. Not sure what kind of regional office they would need here.

Location near my house (Santa fe / Danforth) now has a machine you can use to buy powerball/mega millions tickets and the clerk said scratchers will be sold from behind the counter. Said it will be about 18 days before they begin selling. I’m guessing this is directly related to new ownership!?!

Yes. The national chain sells lottery tickets. Local 7-11 never has (until it was bought out).

At least it'll be at a self-service kiosk instead of in line with a cashier. People buying lottery tickets ahead of me in line makes me crazy, especially when they sit and scratch them off, etc before clearing out.

Exactly. Would be nice if we could enact some type of "No Scratch" law for the convenience stores.
Scratching off in the store (especially in a nice store, like an OnCue) is completely WT and unacceptable.

I don't really care where they do it, with the exception of making the people in line wait for them to clear the cashier slot while they sit and scratch. It'd be like a person picking out a pack of cigarettes and then standing there, opening the pack, and lighting a cigarette before moving out of the way for the next person.
Ugh.

All that has to happen is the clerk saying "Please move aside so the next person can check out" or (less nicely) "NEXT", you can't always rely on the public to be courteous.

floyd the barber 03-03-2020, 08:16 AM I wonder if they will start bringing in the Dallas 7-Eleven pastries, snacks, coffees etc.
Maybe 7-Eleven will expand towards Guthrie, Lawton, and Tulsa now.
The national chain is a little strange. They have hundreds of stores in Texas and in Florida but in states where you would think they have many, they have few. Only three 7-Elevens in Louisiana. None of which are in Baton Rouge or New Orleans. Somehow Wisconsin randomly has a few stores.
Strange locations in my opinion.

It probably has to do with franchisees.
I believe most of their U.S. stores are franchised, so where they are located has much to do with the local owners.
BTW, even though the press release doesn't say it, 7 Eleven has been owned by a Japanese company since 2005.
SEMIweather 03-03-2020, 09:30 PM I've probably stopped at half a dozen 7-Elevens since I moved to Denver, and I have to be honest, I think they are even worse than the ones in OKC. From what I remember, the ones in DFW seemed fine, though it's been a while since I've been down there.
NavySeabee 03-09-2020, 10:06 PM I noticed a few locations have been bought by Brooklyn LLC. I wonder if the Brown family is going into the real estate business and leasing former 7-Eleven sites and sites the 7-Eleven Corporate did not want.

Brady Renfro
Does that mean anything to anyone?
Looks like he owns a construction company in Tahlequah.
I’m curious about this too, NavySeabee.
Dob Hooligan 03-12-2020, 06:41 AM I’m guessing the Brown family has been working on this for several years. Founder Brown was around 90 when he died a couple years ago, IIRC. He had multiple children, and some of them in management. It would be a fair assumption that there are different desires within them regarding “cash out” versus “keep on trucking” that could affect property ownership and operation. I only learned in 2020 that the Brown family did not own all store property in OKC area. 10th and May Ave. property owner told me some history of building and leasing location to them in early 1980s.
MikeLucky 05-19-2020, 10:15 PM So, I had sworn off all 7-Eleven visits given how ****ty of a product the Brown family was completely content to give us all the years they had zero competition. Add to it that they only dealt in crappy gas, and I had no reason to patronize any of their locations.
Well, I finally decided to go into the Rockwell and Memorial location since it's very close to home and I wanted to check out these lottery machines.
First off, the lottery machines are great. And, I also love that you have to scan your winning tickets on the machine and print a voucher, casino style, to get cash from the clerks. The clerk working when I was there today actually said they are not allowed by contract to cash out winning tickets. They can only can cash out vouchers. Definitely an extra layer of security for consumers.
Also it was ABUNDANTLY clear that a new company was running the show. Place was still very clean, well maintained, and wasn't already crapped up like every other brand new 7-Eleven ran by the Browns. I could most definitely tell they were much better managed and ran. Now, if they would get decent gas, I might have to reconsider my 7-Eleven policy.
Brad72 05-21-2020, 05:50 PM I've actually always been a little attached to 7-11. I think it goes back to growing up near one and mom giving me some quarters for doing chores to go play arcade games back when that's what they had in them instead of lottery machines. I was also partial to icees. And, we didn't have cell phones, so their payphone were the only way to sneak in a phone call to make plans without the folks knowing what we were up to.

I grew up a few blocks from a 7-11 so I spent a lot of time buying icees in chik-o-sticks. Now it’s my go to for gas as I have a Thanx card and get 5 cents a gallon off.

Unfortunately for those who like and grew up with the "Icy", 7-11 Corporate as expected are punting them here in the OKC stores for the "Slurpee." So say goodbye to Mountain Dew and Pepsi. In their place will be Coke and then they'll have the Slurpee's version of Wild Cherry along with a variety of other fruit flavors. Some locations have Black Cherry Pepsi as well but no regular Pepsi. Dr. Pepper will supposedly be the lone holdover, but don't expect it to taste exactly the same as the Icy version.
While Slurpee's are popular on a national level, the Icy's at the Oklahoma City 7-11s have been extremely popular here in our market as well. I'm not sure who has made and distributed the Icy for 7-11 here in the Metro all these years. But if I were them and not bound under any non-compete agreement, I'd do whatever it took to get in front of someone at OnCue about supplying their stores with their product and flavors if at all possible.
floyd the barber 05-27-2020, 06:52 PM Icy's, Slurpees, and FreezeCues (OnCue's) are all the same product. Coke and Pepsi hook up a bag in the box and the machine does the rest. It is a marketing gimmick.

I believe that all, if not all, of the stores are getting new point of sale software installed, maybe hardware too. Supposed to be closed for less than a day.

Press release:

OKLAHOMA CITY (July 30, 2020) – 7-Eleven, Inc. will open Laredo Taco Company (LTC) restaurants in more than 10 of its stores in the Oklahoma City metro area. The first location opened this week at 5901 SW 8th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73128. All restaurants are anticipated to open by early 2021.
7-Eleven, Inc. is expanding its presence in Oklahoma City due to the city’s growing economy and the company’s recent acquisition of independently owned Oklahoma stores earlier this year. The new LTC store will add approximately 30 new jobs in Oklahoma City. Subsequent restaurants added to existing 7-Eleven stores will create approximately 10 or more new jobs per opening.
“We have lots of exciting things planned for the Oklahoma stores that recently joined the 7-Eleven family, and Laredo Taco Company gives customers a delicious taste of what’s to come,” said 7-Eleven Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Chris Tanco. “When we open Laredo Taco Company restaurants in select 7-Eleven locations, the lines of enthusiastic customers have been out the door! We are thrilled to offer Oklahoma customers the same great experience and delicious handmade tacos.”
Laredo Taco Company, the retailer’s authentic Mexican food restaurant, is famous for its authentic tacos served on handmade flour tortillas that are made from scratch in on-site kitchens every day. Tacos and meals include specialties not always seen in Mexican fast-food chains, such as authentic barbacoa, chorizo, carne asada, carnitas, breakfast tacos made with freshly cracked eggs, and the newest item on the menu, protein-packed bowls. Each restaurant also has a salsa bar with a wide selection of freshly prepared salsas and pico de gallo where customers can spice up their meal. Every item on the Laredo Taco Company menu is available in-stores or via contactless delivery through Postmates.
As the world continues to respond to the shifting pandemic, 7‑Eleven has enhanced its standards and procedures for hygiene, handwashing, sanitation, food handling and preparation in stores, including increased frequency of cleaning high-touch surfaces. The company’s quality assurance and food safety teams have implemented enhanced food-handling and cleaning practices following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). Freshly prepared salsas and pico de gallo are currently being served in pre-packed containers at the salsa bar, where customers can select their favorites.
All store associates are required to wear masks and gloves when serving customers. Acrylic shields have been installed at checkout registers as added protection for customers and employees. Customers are asked to practice physical distancing in stores by standing 6 feet away from each other in line, and also have access to disposable gloves, tissues and sanitizer stations while shopping.
7-Eleven, the premier name and largest chain in the convenience-retailing industry, acquired more than 100 independently operated 7-Eleven stores in the greater Oklahoma City metropolitan area earlier this year. The Laredo Taco Company restaurants, along with Stripes® convenience stores in South Texas, were part of the company’s 1,000-store acquisition from Sunoco in 2018. 7-Eleven aims to expand to 20,000 stores in the U.S. by 2027: 7-Eleven's 100th birthday (est. 1927).
Taco-lovers in the Oklahoma City area can join Laredo Taco Company on social media on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. There, they’ll get the inside scoop about Taco Tuesday specials, new products and other promotions.

I hope not. I usually go to work and back on either Meridian or MacArthur. Every 7-11 I go by is still cheaper than anything they’re close to. Plus I use a THNX card so it’s 5 cents cheaper still. I hope it stays that way.
