iFLY out of Austin has signed a deal to open a location at Chisholm Creek in far north Oklahoma City.

http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/ifly1.jpg

They will join TopGolf (http://www.okctalk.com/showwiki.php?title=TopGolf) and Cabela's (http://www.okctalk.com/showwiki.php?title=Cabelas) which are both already under construction in the ambitious development between Penn and Western on the south side of Memorial Road.

iFLY is actually a special type of indoor wind tunnel and related facilities. From their website:

“iFLY is an indoor skydiving experience that creates true free fall conditions, just like skydiving, without having to jump out of an airplane. iFLY’s vertical wind tunnel generates a wall-to-wall cushion of air, on which you safely float. There’s no parachute, no jumping, and nothing attaching you to planet Earth. It’s just you and the air, and it’s the most incredible adrenaline rush.”

The company has 35 locations in the U.S. And abroad, the closest being a wildly popular spot in the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas.

iFLY promotes itself to all types and ages and offers programs for first-timers and those who grow in experience with their facilities. Each flyer receives training and guidance before and during their flight.

TopGolf will be open this summer at Chisholm Creek (http://www.okctalk.com/showwiki.php?title=Chisholm+Creek) and Cabela's by the fall. The developers are hoping to start work on their first for-lease building soon and more tenants should be made known in the very near future.

They just completed one here in Houston. Very busy all the time. I will try to snap a pic tomorrow on the way home from work.

It's funny this news broke just now because my wife's friend did that last weekend in Frisco and I remember thinking that's the type of thing OKC doesn't have... Nervermind. ;)

Along with TopGolf, Chisholm Creek packing a powerful 1-2 punch of high-profile and completely unique recreation complexes.

I haven't been to iFLY but people rave about it.

One the cool things is that even little kids can do it but if you get into it, you can gradually work you way up to some cool maneuvers.

Everyone says it's particularly fun in a small group.

Also, it seems that CC is close to announcing some more tenants and will soon be breaking ground on their Tract 30 building.

Pete any idea where it will be located in the devolpment?

I know CC is their type of location, but how cool would it be to have this down by the river, to complement the zip line, slides, white water facility, Rocktown, rowing, etc.?

When they were originally describing what they call the Rumble Drop, this was what I was hoping it might be. Some of the early concept art even looked like it might actually be that.

I've updated the article at the top of the page to show the location.

The cool thing about that placement is that Main Event is also on Pawnee, just north of Memorial.

You'll have Main Event, iFLY and TopGolf all in a nice little modern recreation row. Pretty cool.

That was the exact same thing I first thought about when I first started reading this thread.

This is also actually coming the cruise industry too. Royal Caribbean will offer it on their newest ship "Quantum of the Seas".

This may be the wrong thread to ask. Does Tulsa have one of these yet? :)

I looked at where their locations are and I have to say it's pretty awesome we are getting this. https://www.iflyworld.com/find-a-tunnel/

Many other larger metro areas they have yet to enter.

It wasn't long ago that my late wife and I did a bungee jump at Frontier City. Not very dangerous, we were lying on a canvass and I had to pull the rip cord, but we were in out late 50's. I think it was about a six second free fall and was really fun. If my health was better, I would love to do the "IFLY" thing.

Funny enough, they're building a location in San Antonio right in front of Top Golf. It's under construction as I type.

From the iFly FAQ on their website (www.iflyworld.com):
"Is there a weight restriction?
Those less than 6 feet tall must weigh less than 230 pounds, and those over 6 feet must weigh less than 250 pounds."

And now I have another reason to lose a few pounds!

Crazy excited about this! My boyfriend and I live in Bricktown, but we have a camper down at Skydive Dallas. We go pretty much every weekend. We have spent well 20k at iFly locations in the last 3 years- we are so happy we can finally do it here! Kids can shred too- check this out. Going to be great to have another wind tunnel out there! We keep a full list of upcoming tunnels on our site - there are more of these out there than you think there are and the market is EXPLODING. Wonder how much the global market can hold?

I know- seems insane- but, we also skydive and have over 1000 jumps each. This is our passion and the tunnel is the best way to train. More training time in a smaller time frame = we are becoming a better team!

I'm jealous. I've done the indoor sky diving a few times in Orlando, but have never had a chance to do a real skydive. I've been through some of the training, and I've been wanting to do a jump for my 40th coming up next week.

Well foo! I'm out of limits in both areas. Couldn't they just put a CFM-56 in upside down and use it? Having accidently driven behind a few I can attest to the strength of the air flow.

if I recall correctly, i think this project bid out to contractors before Tract 30 did. there was some serious excavation that was done for this project though, perhaps that had to do with it

Once they got the basement level done, things went by a lot level. I actually thought tract30 seem to be going slow for what it is, but even it has sped up once they main steel was finally erected.

Yes, there are people that do it frequently in the cities where they've opened.
