The Oklahoma City Wandergruppe, an American Volkssports Association (AVA) sanctioned walking club is having a volksmarch at Westheimer Airport in Norman. A volksmarch is a club conducted walk covering 5 and 10 kilometer defined routes. You walk either or both routes at your own pace with family, friends, or solo. Your choice. Start times are between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and walk must be completed by 3:00 p.m. Besides OKC there are AVA clubs in Tulsa and Lawton. Walks, swims and bike rides are conducted almost every weekend from now through November. Walks are held rain or shine. In addition to scheduled weekend events there are year round walks all over the state which you can do anytime. Walkers keep event and distance log books and at completion of certain milestones (such as completion of 50 walks or 500 kilometers), they get bling such as patches, pins and so on. AVA events are held in every state in the country and volkssports is a world wide activity sanctioned by the IVV in Europe. Events are held all over the state. March 21st the Tulsa club is having a walk in the Greenwood/Brady district in Tulsa. The 28th the Lawton club is having a walk at French Lake/Dog Run Hollow in the Witchita Mountains. Volkmarching is a great way to see the state, get low impact exercise, spend time with friends, family and Mom Nature For more information about Volkssports in general go to American Volkssport Association (http://ava.org) There you can search links to events in Oklahoma and other states The link to the Norman event is Walk Event Details : Norman, OK : American Volksport Association (http://clubs.ava.org/gen3/data/event_details.asp?eventid=101449) Come join us this Saturday. I remember doing volksmarches in Germany with my family. I had a great time doing them and getting the plate or stein at the end of the march, I may have to pick this up here.
