View Full Version : Saddest Movie Scenes Ever
Plutonic Panda 03-02-2015, 07:32 PM This is hard for me. It comes down to a couple off of the top of my head. The father scene in Click where Adam Sandler realizes what a dick he had been vs. the Brooks Was Here Scene in Shawshank Redemption.

I'll upload the full scene to Youtube where it gives more context if Youtube allows me to.

Plutonic Panda 03-02-2015, 07:48 PM The part where Sandman Confesses in Spiderman 3 is really sad as well. I can't find the whole scene, so I'm going upload that to Youtube then post it here as well.

Easy180 03-02-2015, 08:33 PM The Sgt Elias death scene at the end of Platoon comes to mind. Heart breaking scene with brilliant music behind it. That one always got me.
MadMonk 03-02-2015, 08:40 PM This scene from The Champ always gets me.

And then there's the end of Saving Private Ryan:

I win!
Edit: So yeah, apparently that video was modified by some jerkoff, and I can't find the original one. Still, people should remember how it went.

Anything with Johnny depp in it makes me sad.

I was just going to post this. Adagio for strings was the music.

ljbab728 03-02-2015, 11:34 PM Everyone seems to be thinking about relatively contemporary movies here. I tend to think more about some of the old classics. This is hard to beat as a tear jerker no matter when a movie was made.

Old Yeller (which I still can't watch) and Brian's Song are at the top of my list.
Also, the scene from Terms of Endearment where Debra Winger says goodbye to her kids on her deathbed.
And the scene from Born Free where they release Elsa into the wild.

They shot Terms at the hospital I worked at and my roommate was an extra in the movie. I got to meet Jack, Debra and Shirley. It was pretty cool. All the scenes from Texas were shot in Nebraska, they just put up different road signs for the shoot.
Bigrayok 03-03-2015, 03:11 PM The end of the movie Mask. I have always loved the end credits with Bob Seger's Roll Me Away playing.

Urbanized 03-04-2015, 05:40 PM Also Bambi and Charlotte's Web had some scenes that were jarringly sad for children's animations.
td25er 03-05-2015, 08:45 AM Where the Red Fern Grows when the 2nd dog dies of a broken heart. There is nothing close to this. Not even Old Yeller.
td25er 03-05-2015, 08:48 AM The montage at the beginning of Up brings the feels.

Which is why I will never, ever watch that movie or read the book. I know the general story and have steered well clear.
In movies and books, I have a much harder time with the sad animal stories than anything else.
Before it became a sensation, I idly picked up a copy of Marley & Me and as I was reading along, I loved all the stories and could relate to much of it. Then, of course, Marley starts aging and it suddenly dawned on me that this wasn't going to end well. Dog stories always end the same way but I had was already in and reading the end of that book actually caused me to be depressed for a short while.
And no, I didn't see the movie and never will. ;)

I was in a store a while back and they had a dog urn which had a place on the front to slide a picture in. Underneath the slot it read "Thanks. I had a good time." I still get sad thinking about it.
Just the facts 03-05-2015, 02:54 PM The movies aren't on video yet so there are no Youtube clips:
1) The final scene of Unbroken where Louie Zamperini is carrying the torch in the Nagano Winter Olympics and the on screen caption says the only person who wouldn't meet with him was The Bird. There was not a dry eye in the theater.
2) The oral report scene from St. Vincent. Even my 16 year old son got tears in his eyes.

I think I beat you to it actually, but you found the right clip. :)
catch22 03-05-2015, 07:49 PM The ending scene in Gran Turino.
I cry every time. That's about the only movie that will do that.
I cried halfway through Underworld when I realized I'd paid money to see it.
Urbanized 03-07-2015, 09:44 AM Yeah, Gran Torino was definitely hard at the end. Eastwood is good at making the weepers. Here's another:
