Shameless Plug (In Pursuit of Excellence): Kim Wah “Review”

(sorry about the lack of photographs. The old cliché is that a picture is worth a thousand words. Mebbe yes . . . may be know. Please read between the lines. Or visit various websites. Better yet, visit Kim Wah)

Just the other evening, when my SweetWife asked me what I was thinking about for dinner—right after arriving home, after work—I replied that I hadn’t really given it any thought. I asked what sounded good to her. She suggested that she had been thinking about going out somewhere to eat. I suggested Chinese ( . . ?) She agreed.

Although I am a Hobby Cook, Kathy and I have our favorite “Go-To Places”—not counting one of the many various, grocery stores that dot the local landscape (with more on the way, btw). Kim Wah is our favorite “Chinese” place. It happens to be located right across the street from one of the most upscale and highly-rated steakhouses in OKC, not to mention a fairly decent Homeland Grocery Store. I will have to admit, here, that one of the nice things about “going out” is no dirty dishes nor cleanup.

When we pulled into our usual (perhaps once a month or two or three) parking space, or at least a spot close to it, around 6:30 pm, Kathy noticed the presence of a great-looking automobile in an adjacent slot. I thought that she was referring to the BMW Family Station Wagon to the right that caught my eye. In fact, she actually meant the Cadillac, to the left. I opined that the owners of both of those vehicles obviously had Good Taste, as well as possessing an appreciation of a Real Bargain, Dining-Wise. She said, “Well, what does that say about Us?” I suggested that We had Excellent Taste, as well.

As always, we went for The Buffet. Please Note (from a semi-selfish perspective=): The “Singapore Vermicelli” and The Green Beans (from the steamtablebuffet) are indescribably good. In fact, Kim Wah must keep a “Culinary Magician” on retainer to create such green bean perfection. Please Be sure to sample these miracles of The Culinary Art when you visit. Everything else offered on The Buffet is basically a bonus and no matter what you select you will not be disappointed. Disclaimer: Unless, of course, there is something wrong with your sense of value or your taste buds.

As is the case with most Buffets, timing can make a significant difference in the perception of Quality and Value. In the several dozens of times we’ve dined here—over the past 10+ years or so—we have never had what could be legitimately described as a “bad” meal. Sometimes The Buffet is better than other times, yet it is never a disappointment. It is simply good and prepared with the expertise honed by 17 years in business at the same location. (In terms of The World of “The Modern Food Industry” I think that is like, around, 1700 years . . . Traditional. =)

According to the sweetheart—on the other side of the counter (who I think may be the Owner)—we (that is, more accurately, MY Sweetheart =)) paid the very modest price for a great meal—Kim Wah has been in business for 17 years and is located in The Original Location of The First Incarnation of Joker’s Comedy Club. That being said, the food here is No Joke.
Kim Wah is not “fancy” nor is it “frilly” not even “pretentious” . . . (although there is a big screen TV, an aquarium and some apparently authentic hometown music in the background).
And the Fortune Cookies are not of the usual label. They are better than that. At least as far as “Fortune Cookies” go.

Edited to Add: The owner/hostess/cashier is not fawning nor over solicitous. Not even uncaring. In fact, she is always kind and careful to compliment.
Oh! (almost forgot): If the idea of a Buffet, even on properly adjusted steam tables, isn’t your “cup o’ tea” . . . You can also order off The Menu. “Word on the Street”—from those apparently in The Know—has it that The Menu at Kim Wah puts The Buffet (at Kim Wah) to shame. This is difficult for me to imagine, on account of The Buffet is so good. Perhaps next time we visit this wonderful and marvelous establishment I will test the veracity of that rumor.

To close, Again with The Selfishness: I hope that Kim Wah “Lives Long and Prospers.”
Even if it is non Trendy and vaguely “non-neo-Urban”.

(sorry, amigos . . . I simply couldn't think of a better place to "cloud compute" than this. Kim Wah is actually very good. imho)

Happy to: On Britton Road, just west of May Ave. (or just east of the Hefner Parkway, depending upon your direction of travel). North side of Britton Road. Sign says Kim Wah. With some Chinese Characters underneath. It should probably be noted, here, that they actually claim to be a Chinese/Vietnamese Restaurant . . . so don't expect Perfect Excellence. Simply REALLY good eats.
