There is currently a location in Edmond. It's very good sushi by Oklahoma standards. This will be much welcome.

My wife and I used to frequent the location at NW 178th and Western and their food is excellent. We usually go for lunch and get the chicken katsu bento box (miso soup, chicken katsu, salad with ginger/sesame dressing, two fried gyoza with dipping sauce, steamed rice and half an orange). Their sushi rolls are really good but can be inconsistent in their quality. Their weekend half-price sushi hours is a great deal although the noise levels easily approach those of a club so we quit going at night.

I would rate The Sushi Bar as my favorite place for sushi rolls but their nigiri sushi loses out to Nhinja, another OKC based restaurant.

Getting quality sushi isn't easy in a landlocked state unless you have a higher-end restaurant that has it flown in fresh. Fortunately OKC has a few choices but only a few and you have to pay for it. The Sushi Bar is above the norm for OKC. I really like their rolls but go elsewhere for the nigiri. Can't say I recommend Nhinja though. The best fresh sushi I've had here is from Tokyo in Nichols Hills.

I suppose I will have to try this place (and Tokyo)! Didnt realize there were other locations of the Sushi Bar, and havent really found a place I really like around here that is reasonably priced. How are their prices?

I used to go to Sumo quite often years ago when Andon (of Nani fame) was one of the Sushi chefs there. His sushi creations somehow make you forget you are actually in a land locked state, haha.

Does Tokyo have Nichols Hills prices or is it pretty reasonable?

It's pretty reasonable. Definitely less than Neko.

For Oklahoma sushi, about average in price. It's better in quality though than Sushi Neko which is more expensive.

I think there are two Pete, the one that is already there and then one that is going a little farther west on memorial.
I remember its application from back in June and thought it was interesting to put two so close to each other https://www.okc.gov/AgendaPub/cache/2/yydzkn553vvffo2azpazo03o/231780002262015105230101.PDF

The owners live very close to the original location (maybe about 2 miles away, max) and they may just be staying in their comfort zone as far as locations. The Memorial corridor at west is booming so it seems like a safe bet. I will be interested in seeing the decor of the new restaurant. I generally don't pay much attention to the physical surroundings in a restaurant but the original location on 178th & Western is so tastefully decorated and furnished that it actually entices me to spend more time there.

Looks like they will be opening soon. I believe they planned to open last fall. Not sure why all the delays.

I drove by Sunday evening and they looked very open to me. I haven't been by since. I may have to check it out sometime soon.

I drive by it nearly every day, and being open would be new to me. I want it to be open though. I liked their other location, and they're late on the deadline as is.

They are open... Spoke to a friend who recently ate there.

Said the food was very good but they still had work to do inside. Very odd they would open before the interior was finished.

Very odd that the health inspector would clear their building permit for certificate of occupancy. And my favorite new-ish $500-$1500 city tax for bars and restaurants certificate of compliance.

We are regulars at the Western & NW 178th location and love the place. We are foodies and generally couldn't care less about decor but the original location is so nice that we have decided it's the first place where the decor actually added to our enjoyment of the meal. We'll have to check out the new location.

Stopped for a quick lunch today.

The have not installed their booths yet so just a bunch of tables scattered in the middle of a big room. Also, nothing out on the patio on the east side.

But service was prompt and helpful and my lunch bento box was good but I'll order some of their rolls next time.

Good to know. This was chicken teriyaki that was just okay but the soup, salad, potstickers, salad and even the rice were all very good.

Yeah, the only person in our group who gets the chicken teriyaki is my 11 year old niece. All the rest of us get chicken katsu. I always ask for extra toasted sesame seeds for the rice. It adds so much flavor. They will also do some substitutions. My nieces both ask for no salad and an extra orange. For my wife and I, that salad dressing is half the reason we go there!

Our favorite roll is the naughty girl (or maybe that's MY favorite roll!). It's one of the more expensive ones but worth it! Cap'n Crunch roll is also a favorite.

I liked the live music. The waiter sold me on baby yellowtail, and described to me how it tasted. I felt bad when I told him how I didn't see it, and the chef agreed with me =/.

We haven't found their nigiri to be as good as their rolls and their rolls aren't always consistent. When they are good, they are great. When they are mediocre, they are still better than most sushi places. The only nigiri I eat on a regular basis are tuna & eel and I could eat a platter of those, easy.

Tuna, as in toro? I love me some eel! Have you been to Tokyo? They're good in both categories, but the atmosphere does leave a little for desire.

Sushi Bar will be opening a new location in the old Dekora / In the Raw space in Lower Bricktown.

Already staffing up.

This is directly next to Sussy's which just closed.

Good to hear! They are one of my favorite sushi restaurants in town but I never feel like driving to Covell or Rockwell/Memorial to go there. Hopefully it does well. I'm a little concerned being that sushi has failed there twice, but The Sushi Bar is a bit more of an established brand than "In The Raw" or "Dekora."

I wish Sussy's would have survived but I agree with the other people who have said that wasn't the best location for them.

That’s good news. Sushi bar is the best sushi in town imho. The portions for the sashimi and nigiri are A+

We live a mile from the original Sushi Bar and their main problem is consistency. When their sushi is good, it's as good as any in town but over the years we have been served plenty of sushi that wasn't much better than the sushi on a Chinese buffet. As a result, we rarely go there anymore. Saki at Eastern and Memorial is our new go-to place for good sushi.

I had an experience like that back in 2013 but then I ate there again once the Memorial location opened and I really enjoyed it. However, I stuck to the popular rolls and never got sashimi again after my 2013 experience.

Well, In The Raw existed there pretty successfully for many years. The closure was mostly precipitated by a brand change that didn't really resonate for whatever reason - driven by a desire for the owners to distance themselves from the original ownership who were still operating under the same name in Tulsa - and also caused by the owners spreading themselves too thin in the opening of a bunch of other concepts. I know there have been a few places come and go from that building, but I think the right concept and the right ownership can do very well there. I also think places on that side of the building should think about their signage differently than has been done in previous iterations.

What would your thoughts be on the signage? I always considered that side of the building to be fairly prominent, but I also worked next door for years so would see those places every day.

I agree with almost everything you said. I used to eat there frequently, but ever since the restaurant scene picked up in the Midtown - Automobile Alley area, I stopped going. Not because the food declined, but because myself and fellow lunch goers were drawn to other locations. Now its a place I just don't even think of. But maybe I'm wrong?
