I believe this place is being run by the same guy that did run or still runs Groovy's. While Groovy's is by no means my favorite place, it is always packed when I have been or driven by.

Pete 01-31-2018, 09:56 AM Back to the mall, what was the original tenant where Shoe Carnival now resides? That's a 30,000 square foot space and I know it had been a small department store in years gone by (not Steinmart I don't think but something like that)... Does anyone remember that store and if was original when the mall opened in the 70's? John 01-31-2018, 03:31 PM Back to the mall, what was the original tenant where Shoe Carnival now resides? Streets operated in the space where BC Clark is (and Shoe Gallery used to occupy). Pete 01-31-2018, 03:33 PM Yes, sorry, Shoe Gallery. And I remember M.M. Cohn. Do you think this was the only previous tenant in that space? John 01-31-2018, 03:34 PM (And with some googling: prior to that, Clarke's) Pete 01-31-2018, 03:36 PM Clarke's was that big? You bet! http://newsok.com/article/1967106 My aunt lived right by Northpark, so I remember spending a lot of time there in its heyday, but I only remember the MM Cohn days (born in '81, so at some point after the acquisition, it was rebranded by MM Cohn). You aren't missing much in this case. The renderings look like they're turning the mall into an office building. Dob Hooligan 01-23-2020, 06:33 PM Not sure what to think about this. Northpark is pushing 50 and so much of the public space is original that I would think a light "sprucing up" and selling the retro factor would make better financial sense. But as I look at that tile flooring, I am reminded that it is still a slimy foundation when we walk into any ancient fast food joint. Places originally built as a Grandy's, Long John Silver, etc. At which point I hear John Huston in the movie Chinatown saying "Of course I'm respectable. I'm old. Publications, ugly buildings and whores all become respectable if they last long enough." Pete 04-16-2021, 10:22 AM The Liszt, the nightclub that opened a couple of years ago in the mall, has permanently closed. So has Rococo and the AMC Theater (a while ago), so this place has become pretty empty. However, I believe The Hamilton is doing well as is Hacienda Tacos. Rover 04-16-2021, 11:25 AM much of the public space is original that I would think a light "sprucing up" Needs way more than "light". It has been due for a complete remodel for about 20 years. We don't get out much. Cohiba 02-18-2023, 08:33 AM I remember sometime back in the late '80s or early '90s hearing from several people about North Park Mall being cut in half. Basically cut in the middle and the South side scrapped and a strip mall being built. The way the Mayfair area is being renovated you would think North Park Mall would get a face lift. Is North Park being slowly forgotten because the area around it is in slow decline? I hate it being just a "walkers mall " with a B C Clark store. It will be news to them. Maybe that explains why prices keep going up. Lol mugofbeer 02-18-2023, 10:28 PM Aging = slow decline? Not always. Bowser214 02-19-2023, 08:54 AM Looking at their website I see some really nice shops, restaurants and other boutique businesses. I think Norwalk and BC Clark have been there for years. ManAboutTown 02-19-2023, 08:59 AM We went to The Hamilton for cocktails last night and it was packed, both in front and in the speakeasy. This property does just fine, and I totally disagree that the area around it is in any type of decline, slow or otherwise. I agree. Plus, this particular mall has a really great maintenance consistency. It would only take a couple of anchor tenants to make this mall a sweet destination . stlokc 02-20-2023, 08:43 AM My parents live in Quail Creek and that neighborhood is absolutely not in decline. It's thriving. (although I think it could do with some better landscaping and unified fencing along May and 122nd). I think the Camelot neighborhood is also holding its own although it's been a little while since I've been in there. However, the old Homeland shopping center on the NE corner is a major embarrassment and needs to be completely bulldozed and replaced with something entirely different. The apartments behind it have also seen better days. I'm encouraged with the new growth to the north of there with new houses but that whole east side of May for about a half-mile north of 122nd has always seemed really weird and disjointed to me. As for the mall itself, when I was young it was the "preppy" mall and was full of higher-end stores. It would be nice for it to come back to life. I wish they had not put the Walgreens on the corner. That really, really cheapens it in my opinion. ditm4567 01-19-2024, 11:27 AM Any update on when Tiny Bubbles or Bush League Sports Tavern will be opening? Bill Robertson 01-19-2024, 01:56 PM Haven't even seen building permits yet. I suspect it will be a while. There's been work going on inside Tiny Bubbles since late summer. Smooth move ..... :) I've done that a long time ago while being a tourist in Cripple Creek before its casino days. I went to an old store to tell of the bad fix I was in, and the clerk there told me to just go look in the grass for an old coat hanger with a hook shaped on the end of it and use that. I've heard of doing that before and sure enough soon found the coat hanger and my problem was over with. You can't do that trick these days. barrettd 04-22-2024, 07:44 AM Back in the 80s it was considered a decent theater. Long before the mega theaters we now have. Pete 04-22-2024, 09:58 AM When I was in high school in the late 70s, Northpark was the top date-night movie spot. I remember seeing Saturday Night Fever there with a really shy girl who was embarrassed by the surprisingly racy nature of that film. Also saw the very first Star Wars and many others there. Along with Shepherd Mall and French Market, at least you could queue up inside for those summer blockbusters. Dob Hooligan 04-22-2024, 10:14 AM Northpark Cinema 4. Screen 3 was the big one. Patrick 04-24-2024, 01:57 PM Even in my early years of marriage just 10 years ago, it was a common date night place, as a dollar movie. Cheap date. I'm not sure why they couldn't make it profitable. I will admit the theater was in sad shape towards the end. Not sure why it couldn't have been updated and re-opened. Bill Robertson 04-24-2024, 02:41 PM Dollar theaters just didn't seem to work. I wired the one on 240 and Shields and the one at 63rd and NW Expressway. They were both built as dollar theaters. Neither lasted long. bombermwc 04-25-2024, 08:06 AM 240 Shields wasn't built as one, but they basically were forced into it when the 8 screen Crossroads place opened. And ironically, that 8 screen did the same thing when the 16 screen Regal opened up next door. The 8 screen held its own for a bit, but it wasn't super long before it went down the toilet. I actually remember going to the 240/Shields one a few times with my grandma. But we usually ended up at the Almonte (she lived at 89th/Penn) a lot because they had better movies. It was only a few screens like 240/Shields, but it was better kept. I dont think it lasted long at all after the Regal opened and I believe it's still vacant today. Only thing I remember at Northpark is that the film was always so scratched up that the experience itself was pretty bad. I dont remember (and it was 30+ years ago at this point) the same being true of the ones on the south side. I dont think they ran the movies quite as long as NorthPark (and NP certainly didn't have any trouble filling the place, even with crappy film). If the newer stadium places didn't do these in, the digital conversion certainly did. They would never get an ROI on that expense. I'm surprised as many of the smaller ones made the switch as did.
