shawnw 08-03-2015, 04:50 PM Oh good. Seems like one or two closed so thought maybe they were having trouble. kevinpate 08-03-2015, 09:45 PM Youngest lad and his sweet lass called last nigt. They knew my lovely was out on a gal chat and decided to bring dinner in. They brought me Zaxby's. Meee likey. Fries were a touch damp, but that's to be expected when your platter travels with a sealed cover. Because this hermit had special delivery, I have no comment on the service at the store, but the food was quite acceptable. Tritone 08-03-2015, 11:18 PM Is Slim Chickens still open somewhere? South Western Avenue about 89th St. Tritone 08-03-2015, 11:20 PM So what I'm taking from all this is that the food is good but the level of service, at least in Norman, is "developing." Looks like I need to give it a try. Thomas Vu 08-03-2015, 11:21 PM Is Slim Chickens still open somewhere? Is the one in Norman near constitution open? kevinpate 08-04-2015, 02:51 PM Is the one in Norman near constitution open? It was a month ago. I've never been but it is near some friends of my son and he has been a few times rte66man 08-22-2015, 03:12 PM from today's NewsOK: "• Smyrna, Ga.-based SJAC Food Groups Holding LLC paid $1.1 million to Trason Global Realty LLC and Tri-County Apartment Development Association for 0.6558 acre at 5859 Northwest Expressway. Stuart Graham and Mark Inman handled the sale." SJAC is the holding company for Zaxby's. The location is the NE corner of NW Expy and MacArthur where the old Express gas station was. Jim Kyle 09-30-2015, 10:36 AM They are coming to the vacant lot on the southwest corner of NW 122nd & Rockwell. Can you do a map or overlaid aerial for this location? That's where a brand new AutoZone was built this summer and has been open for a month or so now... And I've just learned that they're going in on the NE corner of NW Hiway and MacArthur where the Express gas station was. Went to the one in Norman on main last week-end. Nothing special. Food just like Caine's or Chicken Express, except, the prices were higher than those others. Thomas Vu 09-30-2015, 12:58 PM I like Cane's and Chicken express. Can't turn down the value of slims though _Cramer_ 10-01-2015, 10:16 AM Just found out we are getting two here in Stillwater. Just what we need...more chicken! Still don't have Cane's nor Chicken Express. I prefer Cane's over all the others. Currently have Slim Chickens, Chick-Fil-A and Charlie's Chicken (yuck). kevinpate 10-01-2015, 10:33 AM _Cramer_, where is someplace really good to grab a decent day time meal in OSUville? I'm going to be popping in a few times over the next couple of months. Been Eskimo Joes a time or more and would like to try new spots. BBQ, Italian, steak that needs a dash of pepper and then it's good (cause all things need pepper, except ice cream) Plutonic Panda 10-01-2015, 12:27 PM Found out there is a Johny Rockeys in Stillwater. That is pretty cool. One in Tulsa as well. One in Midtown or the CBD in OKC would be badass. ctchandler 10-01-2015, 12:58 PM steak that needs a dash of pepper and then it's good (cause all things need pepper, except ice cream) Kevin, Don't knock it till you've tried it (pepper on ice cream)! I have always said, they can take away my salt, but there is no health problem serious enough for me to give up fresh ground pepper. C. T. Brett 11-14-2015, 11:53 AM Drove by the new Zaxby's that is next to Arby's on Reno & MacArthur. They have a sign on the restaurant saying "Grand Opening in 2 Days". Sure beats driving all the way to Norman. bchris02 11-15-2015, 09:46 AM nm Plutonic Panda 11-17-2015, 01:43 PM Zaxby?s opens new location in Oklahoma City, several others expected to follow | KFOR.com (http://kfor.com/2015/11/16/zaxbys-opens-new-location-in-oklahoma-city-several-others-expected-to-follow/) Brett 11-22-2015, 06:37 PM *FYI* - When accessing Zaxby's at Reno & MacArthur use the Arby's entrance and cut across the parking lot. Trying to enter the west side entrance is almost impossible due to the vehicles exiting the Drive Thru. Plutonic Panda 12-30-2015, 11:57 PM Gotta say, went and tried the one in Moore and the people were very nice and food was alright, but it had a bad aftertaste. I'll probably give it one or two more tries in the future. There's some magical ingredient that just sits wrong with me. Other than the aftertaste and the bread shape it is a clone of Canes. The chicken _might_ be slightly juicier, but I need more data. Oh, and their cup lids are crap. Won't stay on. Just squeezing the cup slightly when picking it up and the dang lid falls off... Just squeezing the cup slightly when picking it up and the dang lid falls off... Yeah I left out the lid issue because I didn't want to bash the place too much. Picked my drink with a little much force I guess per second per second and the liquid went everywhere. shawnw 12-31-2015, 04:26 PM Even when I tried to be gentle with the cup the lid was popping off. How can this not be a thing they notice. Holy crap man. sgt. pepper 01-12-2016, 08:29 AM Ate at Zaxby's on Reno the other night. After reading for months about this place on this forum, I was really disappointed. It was good, but nothing to write home about. The only think I liked better than Canes is that Zaxby's had a bigger menu. I did not care for the sauce or the seasoning on the fries. I will eat there again to try different stuff, but first impression, I like Canes better. And yes, they need to work on those lids. twade 01-12-2016, 09:15 AM Has Zaxby's found a way to move forward on their once-proposed location at Penn & 23rd? DowntownMan 03-29-2016, 10:34 AM It looks like the Zaxbys at 122/Rockwell has started. This is just south of the autozone between it and the Mexican food restaurant. Thomas Vu 03-29-2016, 10:47 AM I've been there a few times. With their 5 piece not coming with a drink, I don't see why I don't go to Canes. Else I like their sauce variety. The zax sauce has an interesting after taste. MagzOK 03-29-2016, 12:16 PM I was very disappointed in my first visit to the place. We went on a Sunday evening at like 8PM and waited for about 45 minutes for our order. The place looked like they had just had a total run as many tables were dirty, floors were messy, etc. The menu was so extensive for a walk-up and order joint that I was a little overwhelmed. Once we got it, yes, the chicken was okay. What I didn't care for is the sauce comes in pre-packaged containers and they're made from high fructose corn syrup. Not really our cup of tea we try to avoid that stuff if at all possible. While I think Cane's chicken is a little less flavored compared to Z's here, the Cane's sauce is outstanding and mixed right there at the store, and it does not have the corn syrup. We're on the fence as to whether we'll try it again. Uptowner 03-29-2016, 12:34 PM I hate to disappoint you. But canes has ketchup in it. And all ketchup (save the organic brands) uses corn syrup. jompster 03-29-2016, 01:34 PM I just tried Zaxby's on NWX and MacArthur. I'm not impressed at all. The chicken pieces could barely classify as boneless wings (more like large popcorn chicken) and the service was absolutely awful. I wrote in to corporate, and I told the franchisee who called me that I would never be back. Every single person that I encountered was rude, and the wait was almost 30 minutes. If they had been busier, I could have dealt with that part, but they weren't swamped. Pete 04-17-2022, 12:14 PM Good Egg Dining Group recently purchased the old Zaxby's on the southwest corner of NW 122nd & Rockwell. It will be a Tucker's with a drive-thru. okatty 04-17-2022, 06:23 PM ^This area is going to be burger central - HD’s has been there forever, The Garage is off 122nd, this new Tuckers and then there is a new burger place going in strip center just north of 122nd and Council. If college students in Norman and Stillwater couldn't keep a Zaxby's open, then that should tell you something. If it isn't the bad food, then it's the service. I suspect Chick-Fil-A represents overwhelming competition. If the new Wingstop in Stillwater can't stay open, that should tell you something, too. It doesn't even have a drive in quite unlike the nearby Chick-Fil-A. Empty Zaxby's in Stillwater is still for sale just a few blocks from OSU. Roger S 04-20-2022, 07:16 AM Having dealt with the owner of the OKC Zaxby's.... I can't say I'm disappointed they failed. floyd the barber 04-20-2022, 08:56 PM If college students in Norman and Stillwater couldn't keep a Zaxby's open, then that should tell you something. Yes they both sell chicken but that's aboit it Yes I know that sounds ridiculous but Zaxby's offered more variety than Chick-fil-A's chicken sandwich based menu. Different menu. Different atmosphere. One has a bad breakfast and the other has no breakfast. I don't know. It's all subjective. All I have to say is that being the most popular doesn't make it the best. McDonald's is the most popular burger place in the world but I think most people would agree they don't necessary make the best burgers. Chick-fil-A is just the McDonald's of chicken sandwiches. I'm not saying that Zaxby's makes the best chicken or anything. There are better options. I'm just saying that it was underrated and I'm sad to see them fail. I understand everyone has different experiences but I never had a problem with their food or service. rizzo 04-27-2022, 10:24 AM HD should be worried about all the competition taking a bite out of their burgers. therhett17 04-27-2022, 04:15 PM Not sure why anyone would compare Zaxby's and Chick-Fil-A... Caines chicken has least amount of flavor of any chicken that I have had. When I say that, most people respond with something about their sauce. Tcopel90 05-03-2022, 02:40 PM I always caught a lot of heat for saying I didn't like Cane's while living in Louisiana. They used to be better but as they've continued to expand the quality has gone down significantly. All Cane's does is 'marinate' their tenders in a saltwater/MSG brine for 24 hours, no seasoning in the breading. The fries have always been garbage. Cane's sauce is just ketchup, mayo, garlic salt, black pepper and Lea & Perrins. There is definitely a rivalry down south between Cane's and Zaxby's (Louisiana vs Georgia). I wouldn't lose any sleep if I never ate at either again. |
