You can see that they are close to finishing and reopening Fred Jones Ave.

BridgeBurner 07-11-2018, 08:45 AM Are they still planning to string the lights over the street between Jones and West Village like in all the renderings?

Yes, I believe so.
Building D in the southeast corner will be the first to be occupied this fall. Building B to the immediate north will take a bit longer.
It seems both buildings will need to be complete before they can string the lights.
shawnw 07-11-2018, 09:09 AM didn't realize they were putting angled parking there. area is looking to be real nice someday soon.

Sooner.Arch 07-11-2018, 09:55 AM Personally I feel like they had a great opportunity to add a public plaza like these between the jones and building B & D.

Along with Stitch, the Plants Shop and the bodega going in Building D, I think that's a wrap for all the commercial space in West Village apart from some small office space along Sheridan.
They ended up cutting all the retail space at the corner of Classen & Main.
Timshel 07-11-2018, 09:58 AM Could have sworn I read something saying that was going to be pedestrian-only. Obviously not - though I believe that would have been a cool opportunity.
HOT ROD 07-11-2018, 04:57 PM too bad they cut the corner of classen/sheridan, would have been perfect for a 7-11 or similar convenience store.
Y dont we have any of these anywhere in downtown???

There are a few but mainly old leftovers:
Circle K at Reno & Lincoln
Shell at NW 6th & Walker
2 places on Classen at Sheridan and Reno
Downtown Plaza at NW 11th & Broadway
But all on the edges and none really used by people walking around downtown.
Still wish that CVS deal would have come together at the Century Center.
And remember, there will be a bodega-type place in West Village between Stitch and the Plant Shoppe.
And Vice Liquor in the Avana complex is a nice little store.
Rover 07-11-2018, 05:12 PM 7-11 at 10th and Western, also.
Ross MacLochness 07-11-2018, 05:13 PM And don't forget about On The Run in Bricktown!!
And don't forget about On The Run in Bricktown!!
Yes! That is probably the most convenient for residents or anyone just hoofing around downtown.
Some of the signage that is set to go up:

Bullbear 08-01-2018, 10:37 AM That is impressive and amazing change in such a short period of time. Really look forward to seeing this complete.
These are from Sunday.
Looks like they still have a ton of interior work to do on the one building just east of Jones Assembly before they are ready to open for tenants.

I keep waiting for that as well. It will certainly stand out nicely. I have a feeling that it'll be one of the last things they install on that building. The building they've gotten started on the northwest side up by the intersection is already getting kind of forboding per se'. I can't wait to see what this development is like when it's finished!
DallasOkie086 08-09-2018, 09:15 AM This is a nice project. It seems like the pads to the East (left of the parking garage?) would be the perfect sites to build another mixed use project or even strip mall. What is on that land?
Johnb911 08-09-2018, 09:50 AM Here's an ignorant question: can someone explain the half roof to me? On the buildings directly east and west of Jones Assembly, what's the purpose? Some rainwater disbursement? Housing of rooftop equipment that can't be open air? Just curious. Thanks in advance

Will be a rooftop pool and deck.
Urbanized 08-09-2018, 10:58 AM Will be a rooftop pool and deck.
Pete I don't think he was asking about the area where the rooftop amenities are. I believe he was asking about the small gabled and hip roof portions. I suspect those are for R value, and to offer more durability and water resistance than the flat membrane roof that is exposed in places (where they have mechanicals installed). Just a guess there. But he is right, this is sortof a newish approach as far as I know. It's interesting.

Sheridan is closed going west as they redo the section in front of West Village.

There is a call for artists to paint murals on the south and west walls of the parking garage at Sheridan and Classen:
http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/21c083018.jpg
David 08-30-2018, 03:52 PM Not the north wall, too? There's a similar space there as the south, but I suppose it is partially obscured by the Museum Hotel.
SagerMichael 08-30-2018, 04:14 PM They should paint the entire garages... or just make more attractive parking garages to start with

5alive 09-05-2018, 10:00 AM Wow...what a transformation. And the glass is in on the curved portion of the apartment building!!!
Had lunch at Jones today (fantastic as always) and took this photo of the apartments looming over the outdoor space:

Sheridan has re-opened west of Shartel.
As you can see, west bound is now only one lane, as they have added diagonal parking in front of what will be Stich and the Plant Shoppe on the north side of Sheridan, and that will continue all the way to Classen.

Water is in the roof-top pool. They still plan to move the first tenants into that particular building before the end of the year.

Absolutely. And it makes the Sonic and Taco Bell feel more out of place everyday. I wish those properties could be re-developed.
^
Reminder that that Taco Bell was just completely rebuilt. I doubt either of those places are going anywhere.
Rover 10-07-2018, 04:58 PM Taco Bell property was purchased a short while back by an out of town owner who doesn’t appear to be into development, urbanism or the such.

Maybe someone could talk them into the first great Taco Bell patio! They could add beer and extend the patio towards Sheridan to better fit in the neighborhood. One can dream, right?

Either way, it will kill it when all the people leave Jones Assembly or the surrounding areas drunk/tipsy and have the munchies.
David 10-08-2018, 10:17 AM I love the little traffic circle on Fred Jones.
That Sonic and Taco Bell are going to make so much money with all those new residents on-hand.
okcphoto 10-08-2018, 10:29 AM Hall Capital attempted to purchase the Taco Bell and Sonic properties but the owners would not budge on selling.
PaddyShack 10-08-2018, 10:31 AM I love the little traffic circle on Fred Jones.
I don't think that is a traffic circle, looks to me pavers or something for decorative purposes
David 10-08-2018, 10:46 AM I don't think that is a traffic circle, looks to me pavers or something for decorative purposes
In the picture I'd swear there's a curb around it sticking up compared to the surrounding pavement, but I could be seeing something wrong.
Yes, just pavers in the street. To the right (east) is the in/out of a parking garage. The other direction is the alley between Jones and 21c.
shawnw 10-12-2018, 11:17 AM Mural RFP

baralheia 10-12-2018, 12:22 PM That RFP also confirms the exterior surfaces of the garage are not yet complete:
*Artists should note that the above unmarked areas of the garage (outside mural area) will be covered by corten steel. Artists should consider this in their proposals.
The plan is to move in the first residents on Nov. 15th.
Laramie 10-13-2018, 01:00 PM Maybe someone could talk them into the first great Taco Bell patio! They could add beer and extend the patio towards Sheridan to better fit in the neighborhood. One can dream, right?
Great idea for Taco Bell about the patio and addition of beer to the menu. I frequent that Taco Bell drive thru whenever downtown; there is still a vagrant concern with the City Rescue Mission, Jesus House, Salvation Army & Grace Rescue Mission in the area. Taco Bell employees are often seen visibly channeling these poor souls off the property. The homeless Day Shelter (4th & Penn) does provide some cover.
Tthese poor souls aren't equipped for permanent employment or hold down a temporary job. Some are vets on a waiting list for housing with obvious PTSD concerns; SNAP Food Stamps application assistance is provided by the Shelters.
Some are waiting for Veterans Disability. North Care Mental Health Counseling (General Pershing Blvd west of State Fair Park recently built their newest facility. Just up the street (10th & Penn) is the mammoth Salvation Army Center with an alcohol treatment center across Penn on N.W. 7th. Oklahoma City's core is inundated with these help centers in walking distance of downtown. Collectively, the shelters do an outstanding job providing services for their clients; a very generous community.
There are tent villages throughout our core; many hidden by the trees and creeks that align major streets.
HOT ROD 10-13-2018, 02:59 PM sadly, this is a common sight in major cities throughout this country, and a lot of it has to do with funding cuts for mental health services at the federal level.
Drain the swamp - just made it more visible locally. ....

It will be handled better locally anyway. (By local I mean city, no way state does much) That curse is somewhat of a blessing too.
