There is little surprise that KU is the favorite again this year. There seem to be much higher expectations for OU and, although OSU isn't mentioned here, much lower expectations for them.
dankrutka 10-15-2014, 11:52 PM If TaShawn Thomas is declared eligible then OU might have its best team in a while. *fingers crossed*

But OSU is mentioned there. Right under OU. A full paragraph about Le'Bryan Nash.
Roger S 10-16-2014, 07:34 AM Going to be a crazy year of Big XII basketball.... Don't let any of those teams at the bottom of the list fool you either.... While none of them are going to win a national championship. It's not going to make them any less dangerous come conference play and my Jayhawks aren't going to cake walk to their 11th Conference Championship in a row either.
Can't wait for it to get started!!!

ljbab728 10-16-2014, 09:27 PM But OSU is mentioned there. Right under OU. A full paragraph about Le'Bryan Nash.
You're absolutely right. I certainly missed that somehow.
On another note, Here is the preseason coaches poll.
NCAA College Basketball Polls, College Basketball Rankings, NCAA Basketball Polls - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings)
Kansas is 5th, Texas is 10th, Iowa State is 14th, and OU is 19th. K State and Baylor also get some votes.

ljbab728 01-05-2015, 10:40 PM OU had a very surprising 70 - 49 romp over 10th ranked Texas in Austin tonight. It was OU's first road win over a top 10 team since 1993 and Lon Kruger really seams to have them going in the right direction.
Jersey Boss 01-05-2015, 11:05 PM Man that was a great game. What a great way to take the dismal performance of the fb team off the mind. Thomas has been a great addition to the team and I'm looking forward to the rest of the conference schedule. Now the populace needs to take note and start supporting these young men.:Smiley051
dankrutka 01-06-2015, 01:02 AM Absolutely love this team. Great win tonight.
Roger S 01-06-2015, 07:59 AM Looks like OU and Texas are basketball schools now.
Where can we start a petition to get rid of Musberger on Monday nights?
Jersey Boss 01-06-2015, 10:29 AM How many times did Brent say " This is where Texas made their comeback two years ago"? Of course his job is to keep viewers watching this game instead of turning the channel.
Roger S 01-06-2015, 11:01 AM How many times did Brent say " This is where Texas made their comeback two years ago"? Of course his job is to keep viewers watching this game instead of turning the channel.
He makes me want to mute the game and listen to the radio broadcast.
I thought it was mostly Fraschilla that kept harping on the 20 point comeback but Musberger annoyed me at the 0:46 second mark of the first half when Hield put up his first shot, missed, and Musburger made a comment about Hield being off to a cold start...... Really??? One shot? Less than a minute in to the game? Makes it a cold start?
But as a diehard Jayhawk I can never, ever, forgive him for the night he said my Hawks were from Manhatten.
codyt 01-06-2015, 04:47 PM Texas was exposed last night. They flat out cannot shoot. Any team that can D up their athletes without getting into foul trouble will have success against the Longhorns this year.
On the flip side, OU can really score. The Big 12 is remarkably solid.
Iowa State and OSU tonight in Ames. I love Oklahoma State's effort in the past few games, but I like the Cyclones to cover tonight. Hilton is a tough place to play. If the Pokes want to have a chance tonight, Forte needs to be dialed in big time.
The Big XII top to bottom is pretty darn salty and that combined with a less-than-stellar Kansas team, and somebody else might actually win the conference for a change.
OU has as good a shot as anyone at dethroning the Jayhawks.
ljbab728 01-06-2015, 10:03 PM It wasn't a win but OSU gave ranked Iowa States fits in Ames losing by 2 points tonight. The Big 12 is going to be a bear all year.
Roger S 01-07-2015, 07:55 AM OU has as good a shot as anyone at dethroning the Jayhawks.
After the road win at Texas they put themselves in a real good position because road game wins in the Big XII are hard to come by and that one was huge. If they go to Lawrence on the 19th and pull off another it would take a huge implosion to lose the Big XII and I don't see that happening under Kruger.
I'm a diehard Jayhawk fan but living in Oklahoma most of my adult life I've become a Sooner fan too. This Oklahoma team scares me as a Jayhawk fan because while I think our guards can hang with the OU guards. Spangler and Thomas are probably going to rip the KU frontcourt a new one.
Opening weekend of conference play the people that get paid the big bucks to talk about sports were starting to say the road to the Big XII no longer went through Lawrence but was going through Austin this year..... OU went down there and ripped out the freaking highway.
Big XII conference play has always been competitive, and a grind, but this year is going to be exceptional.... Would not surprise me at all to see a team with 4-5 conference losses win the Big XII this year.
ljbab728 01-28-2015, 08:46 PM OU has been a very schizophrenic team this year. They have had a few games where they just obliterate the opponent this year and then may have major klunker the next game.
Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Oklahoma Sooners - Recap - January 28, 2015 - ESPN (http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400585815)
Tech had just beaten a top 10 team in their last game.
NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma allowed the fewest points ever by a Big 12 team in a conference game, and the 24th-ranked Sooners defeated Texas Tech 81-36 on Wednesday night.
The Sooners eclipsed the league record of 37 points set by Texas against Oklahoma in 2004 and matched by Oklahoma against Texas A&M in 2008.
dankrutka 01-28-2015, 11:29 PM More than anything, OU just can't win close games. It's been a season of blow out wins and close losses.
And, sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine, but, like many others, this is not a correct use of the term "Schizophrenic." Paranoid schizophrenia is characterized by hallucinations and paranoia. Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly Multiple Personality Disorder) is characterized by holding more than one personality. I've never understood how "schizophrenia" came to be (mis)used as an adjective for personality fluctuation....
Unless you were making the case that OU gets blown out because they hear voices and see make-believe people. Then that would be the correct usage. :)
ljbab728 01-28-2015, 11:42 PM So sorry but I think it is an appropriate word.
Mental Health and Schizophrenia (http://www.webmd.com/schizophrenia/guide/mental-health-schizophrenia)
Schizophrenia is a serious brain disorder that distorts the way a person thinks, acts, expresses emotions, perceives reality, and relates to others. People with schizophrenia -- the most chronic and disabling of the major mental illnesses -- often have problems functioning in society, at work, at school, and in relationships. Schizophrenia can leave its sufferer frightened and withdrawn. It is a life-long disease that cannot be cured but usually can be controlled with proper treatment.
It is an exaggeration, of course, but it's not an incorrect usage necessarily. Paranoid schizophrenia is only one of several kinds.
Maybe disorganized schizophrenia would be more appropriate in this case. ;)
Disorganized schizophrenia: People with this type often are confused and incoherent and have jumbled speech. Their outward behavior may be emotionless or flat or inappropriate, even silly or childlike. Often they have disorganized behavior that may disrupt their ability to perform normal daily activities such as showering or preparing meals.
ljbab728 01-31-2015, 09:19 PM OU had a very important win tonight in Stillwater.
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Oklahoma St Cowboys - Box Score - January 31, 2015 - ESPN (http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=400585821)
They are the only Big 12 team with a win there so far this season.
BoulderSooner 02-01-2015, 02:51 PM And the sooners continue to dominate osu in basketball.
ljbab728 02-08-2015, 12:12 AM Congrats to OSU on their big win over KU after the win over Texas in Austin. This is certainly enhancing their tournament status as well as keeping KU from running away from everyone again.
BG918 02-08-2015, 01:57 PM Huge game for OU Monday night against Iowa State in Norman. The winner is in 2nd place in the conference closing in on KU.
ljbab728 02-09-2015, 10:10 PM It was another good night for OSU and OU as they continue their late season surge. OSU downs #16 Baylor in Waco and OU downs #14 Iowa State in Norman. KU may not get caught but they are keeping the pressure on.
BG918 02-10-2015, 12:07 AM Nice win for OU to take 2nd place. 3 more road games including two pretty tough ones at KSU (who beat OU in OT in Norman) and a rematch with ISU. Big home game next Tuesday against Texas.
OSU has an easier slate down the stretch with two key home games against ISU and WVU, and road games at TCU and Tech.

The Mildcats became a lot easier to beat with Foster suspended. Cyclones are going to be tough at Hilton.
I predicted early in the season that the KU/OU game could potentially be to decide the Big XII championship and while I hate to say it. I'm not sure KU will come out of Morgantown with a win and that gives them their 3rd loss. If OU doesn't drop another between now and then and they beat KU in the LNC both teams will be 14-4 in conference play.

OU doesn't play KU again. They finish the season at KSU, vs. Texas, at Tech, vs. TCU and at Iowa State. KU could drop 2 more games (assuming OU wins out) and still would hold the tie breaker over OU because of their head to head win in Lawrence.

OU plays KSU this Sat. in Manhattan KS. They finish the season at home on 3/7 when they host the Jayhawks. OU has three road games left, KSU, ISU, &TT. OU has three home games left UT, TCU, and KU.

So you are saying my tickets to the KU/OU game on March 7th are no good?
You might want to re-check that schedule.

That's what I get for looking at the schedule on Google. :/
ljbab728 02-23-2015, 10:31 PM The Big 12 race is suddenly becoming much more interesting. After KU lost tonight to KSU, OU is only one game behind them and ISU in the loss column. And, with 3 league games left, OU has one against both teams remaining.
okatty 03-01-2015, 08:17 AM Big week for OU - Monday at Ames and then Saturday against the Jayhawks! Should be interesting. Two tough games to get at least a share of Big 12 title.

Well I have my OU ball cap on today but Saturday I'll be walking in the LNC wearing my Royal Blue & Crimson colors and hopefully coming out with our 11th Big XII Championship in a row and getting to watch an epic battle for it..... At the same time can't say I would be disappointed with the two teams sharing the title. I was born in Kansas and grew up watching KU basketball but I've adopted the Sooners as my 2nd Big XII team and regularly attend games at the LNC.
I've been saying that OU is the best TEAM in the Big XII all season and I still stand by that..... Sure hope Buddy stays for his Sr season. If he does OU will have a great chance of knocking my Jayhawks off their perch next year.
Tigerguy 03-02-2015, 10:21 PM Well, that was...

okatty 03-02-2015, 11:05 PM a 31-4 run by ISU??? OUCH.
Roger S 03-03-2015, 07:01 AM Well things really got interesting after last night and it's a testament to how strong the Big XII really is this year.
My Jayhawks have claimed at least a share of the Big XII Conference Title for the 11th straight year... ROCK CHALK!!!!!
What's really interesting though. and I hope it doesn't happen but, if the stars align just right, or that could be just wrong, and KU somehow manages to drop two in a row..... We could see a 4 way tie for Conference Champion..... WOW!
Mostly I just hope everyone makes it through the remaining conference play and Big XII tourney healthy and represents the conference well in the big dance...... And I really want to see a Big XII team knock of Kentucky! Because Kentucky would not be undefeated if they played basketball in the Big XII.

Big 12 - ONE TRUE CHAMPION once again?? :o
okatty 03-03-2015, 10:53 PM There ya go...Kansas Big 12 Champs. WVA gives up 18 pt lead. Good game.
ljbab728 03-03-2015, 11:34 PM I'm sure KU will be favored in the tournament but there are several teams that could win without being a big surprise. KU has shown in the last few games that they are vulnerable.

Last few? The Jayhawks have been vulnerable all season without a rim protector...... If WVU has Juwan Staten in the lineup they don't blow that lead.
Big XII Tournament will be awesomely brutal and I really hope, especially after watching last nights slugfest, that everyone makes it through it healthy and ready to make a deep run.

Tigerguy 03-04-2015, 03:13 PM Big12 is DEAD in basketball as well as football. Same champion (RS) for eleven straight years, boring
Yes, this season has been a complete borefest. Everybody and their parakeet knew that Kansas would go undefeated and run roughshod over the conference. It's been obvious, especially over the last month, that nobody else had a snowball's chance in hell (or perhaps heaven, if you go by Dante's version of hell) of winning the conference. Why did any other team even bother?
Roger S 03-04-2015, 03:25 PM Big12 is DEAD in basketball as well as football. Same champion (RS) for eleven straight years, boring
Yeah, I can see that.... 4 teams still had a chance at the championship up until the next to the last game of the season..... SEC basketball is so much more exciting right now.... No one even predicted Kentucky would come close to winning that conference.
dcsooner 03-04-2015, 06:42 PM 11 straight years says it all.

I agree.... That's a pretty amazing run in a conference as consistently good as the Big XII.

ljbab728 03-15-2015, 08:32 PM The Big 12, as expected did very well in landing teams in the tournament, with 7 out of the 10 teams being selected. OSU got a tough one as a 9 seed but at least they are in after sweating a little. OU did better than many predicted with a 3 seed. Getting to the Sweet 16 would be a very good accomplishment for them this year.

Yes and some pretty interesting match-ups. Potential of Kansas v Wich State for one. If OSU can get by Oregon they get a #1 seed. Texas is getting some love as upset pick out of the 11 slot over Butler. Then you have OU, ISU and Baylor as 3 seeds. Buffalo seems to be a trendy pick to beat Wva. But glad the league landed a bunch of teams and decent seeds for most part.
Tigerguy 03-19-2015, 02:56 PM #3 seeded Baylor lays an egg against #14 Georgia State. #3 seeded Iowa State lays an egg against #14 UAB. #3 seeded Notre Dame almost laid an egg against #14 Northeastern. What does the future hold for #3 seeded Oklahoma against #14 Albany? Let the record state that the common bond is that the Big 12 teams were the ones to lose...
okatty 03-20-2015, 02:58 PM Hey, Kansas won!! At this point B12 will take any win! Wva leading by 11 at the moment as well.
okatty 03-21-2015, 07:04 PM OU is getting a little bit of a break - Dayton beats Providence. Dayton will have home court essentially, but they are a small team and not great on the boards so OU should be able to run its offense thru Thomas and Spangler.
KU v Wich State - very interesting!! Have not played in 22 years.
