TheTravellers 05-27-2021, 09:20 AM St. Vincent, Tue, 10/5.
Artist presale started yesterday (WHOSYOURDADDY), venue presale starts today (check Twitter or Facebook for a code, I guess, they didn't send out an email about this show), general onsale is next week, I think.
St. Vincent is a good get.
But the Criterion has still not paid their property taxes since the facility was finished in 2017. Their bill is now approaching $400,000.

Why hasn't something happened with that? I thought places got closed, auctioned, some kind of penalty was assessed if property taxes aren't paid?

I don't know why the county assessor allows this. Just try not paying the property taxes on your home; they will come down on you like a ton of bricks.

The artist pre-sale happened only about an hour after the show was even announced. Next week is the "Venue Pre-sale" and I saw that code (DOWNINOKC) in an email right before the artist pre-sale began... pretty convoluted, but I'll take it.
This is always a fun time for OKC concert announcements because the Austin City Limits festival official line-up drops and you get a lot of artists looking for gigs nearby. So the Criterion might have a few more announcements coming up.. as well as other venues for this week. Also probably the reason why the Diamond Ballroom snagged Modest Mouse and Future Islands
SEMIweather 05-28-2021, 12:12 AM Way off in the future, but King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard on Halloween 2022 will be a fun show. They'll probably have released 4 or 5 new albums by then too, lmao.
They just announced Kesha for August 17th.
Events are starting to get scheduled out all over the city now.
Plutonic Panda 06-04-2021, 01:07 PM I hope Kesha gets herself back in order. Last time I’d heard about her she was going through a lot. Good to see her performing.

Did the Ween show get canceled or is that still happening?
shawnw 06-06-2021, 11:41 PM My gf said she has a credit for the ween show so I'm presuming it's canceled?
SEMIweather 06-07-2021, 12:36 AM It is cancelled per their events page
soonerguru 06-07-2021, 10:08 AM Damn. Oh well.
TheTravellers 06-10-2021, 12:13 PM Lindsey Buckingham, 12/17, venue presale code is LINDSEYOKC. Reserved seating, floor only, just got our tix and they were the last row, center section (selected for us by their algorithm), apparently the presale started a couple of hours ago.
Urbanized 06-12-2021, 07:47 AM 6th row. Wish I’d seen it a bit sooner.
Saw him a few years ago at ACM@UCO’s performance lab; just Buckingham, a guitar and a mic. A storyteller type format. Dude has a massive ego to be sure, but damn, he can make music. And has some incredible stories to tell.
soonerguru 07-08-2021, 11:10 AM Man, the Criterion is coming back with a bang! Tons of concerts over the next two months! Check it out.

SEMIweather 07-08-2021, 12:43 PM Lake Street Dive must love OKC for how often they play here lol
^
Their two shows at the Jones sold out.
I went to the first one and they were great and crowd was really into it.

because Rachel Price.
But, really, that whole band is talented. Both show at the Jones sounded great, too. Not sure if I can make this one though.
The Criterion finally paid their property taxes.
Had owed hundreds of thousands since they bought the property in 2015 but now are completely up to date.

chssooner 08-03-2021, 01:24 PM The Criterion is killing it! A Day to Remember is coming in, and they are a massive get for them.
HOT ROD 08-03-2021, 04:14 PM hope the successes continue!!
king183 08-03-2021, 04:19 PM Was it the Criterion that switched the group that books shows or was that another venue? If it was Criterion, I wonder if this recent success is directly responsible for that.

They were using the knitting factory for a while and that was when I noticed a lot more of this level of talent arriving. Just before COVID, they started also having Patchwork Presents as a booker and it seems that relationship has really worked out with this latest stretch of announcements. I don’t believe there is an exclusive booking relationship at this point, so you can go on their website and any upcoming event will tell you which company booked it
Urbanized 08-03-2021, 08:10 PM They’ve made a number of changes related to bookings, but realistically what most likely enabled them to catch up on things all at once was receipt of the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant funding, for which they almost certainly qualified. That was a massive shot in the arm for music venues and theaters - “Hamilton” on Broadway received $30 million and may ultimately get $50M - and venues began receiving funds in late June.

I thought they were using Live Nation now?

Thank God!
This is great news. Now, if they would start instituting vaxxed-only shows I would start buying tickets. But not until then.
I'm going to Foo Fighters but that is outside. Going to see Samantha Crain at Tower but that will be a heavily vaxxed audience for sure.
Not quite ready to mix it up at the Criterion until this **** is behind us, and the only way that happens is exponentially more people getting vaccinated.
3nglnd 08-04-2021, 11:54 AM I thought they were using Live Nation now?
I didn't take the time to click on absolutely every event, but 2 of their biggest shows - Jason Isbell and A Day To Remember - are a combination of "Patchwork and Live Nation Present"
Looks like there are quite a few bookers in the pipeline, usually segmented by genre, but Patchwork is definitely the most consistently credited for their listed upcoming shows - either by itself or in conjunction with another booker
Richard at Remax 10-08-2021, 09:39 AM I can't make it to Marc Rebillet tonight. Selling my 2 tix for $30/each if anyone is interested. Will do venmo then I'll text you the tickets. Thanks!
soonerguru 10-08-2021, 10:34 AM I enjoyed St, Vincent a great deal. The staff did a great job at the gate checking vaccine status, the bar staff was friendly and efficient, and most importantly, what a great crowd. Definitely a more music-focused, sophisticated audience than I have seen at most concerts in OKC. St. Vincent was terrific as well. Great night!

St. Vincent was great, but a comedian for an opener? Also a shame the balcony was closed off - not great sales for such a popular and good artist.

she had a different opener scheduled that sort of abruptly cancelled all touring plans at the last minute. I'm assuming that was tough to re-book.. Definitely something you don't see very often anymore, but I agree that the show was great!

Yeah, I know, but she couldn't find another musician anywhere at all and had to settle for a comedian? At least she wasn't on long.
soonerguru 10-08-2021, 11:41 AM Man, always something to complain about! :) I admit I kind of ignored the comedian and just enjoyed meeting up with a few friends I haven’t seen since the pandemic started and enjoying a few cold ones.

Eh, I just remember back when the opener and the headliner both used to be complementary to each other and I usually liked both. Hasn't happened in years, so I've kind of gotten used to it, but a comedian opening for a musician is just weird (I don't listen to/watch stand-up comedy, so I'm a bit biased). Am glad she came here, though.

I saw you stroll past when I was in the back talking to someone, and hoped to run into you to chat. But once St Vincent was on I was doing my best to rail grab up front. What a tremendous show.

Darnit. Would have been great to catch up!
SEMIweather 02-22-2022, 10:11 AM The War On Drugs on September 21st. HUGE GET. Probably the best rock band going these days.

king183 04-02-2022, 06:03 PM I’ve never been to a show here, but want to go see Interpol on September 10. There are two options: general admission and premium balcony. Can someone who has been to the venue tell me if the balcony is actually better in terms of view and sound?

Yes, been to many, many shows there and we prefer the balcony (it's not always open, but we get up there when we can). Absolutely hate the seating, though, when it's a seated show, had that for Lindsey Buckingham and might never do a seated show there again.

I will also be going to that show!
Personally, I strongly prefer general admission. You can get there early or just be intent on getting to the front and thus not only be more enveloped by the show but generally be surrounded by people who share your enthusiasm for the band.
The balcony is all seated and not as close as you can get as GA. So, it depends on how much you want to be right in the action. Personally, I find the casual concert goer annoying in the extreme when I really care about an act. A lot of talking, texting, etc.
As I recall, bar access is easy in the balcony but I'm one of those people who want to get right up front and stay put, so I just buy a beer or two and don't leave after.

Is the seating in the balcony just for "premium balcony" shows? Every time we've been in the balcony and it's not "premium", everybody's standing on bleachers.

It depends on the show, but I think they do it both ways.

Interesting. We've never done "premium balcony", we just get GA tickets and go upstairs if it's open (and yes, I agree there are more a**holes up there that want to see and be seen than just listen to the music than downstairs), and are downstairs if it's not. And to clarify my seating comment above, that was floor seating, not balcony seating, I don't think they opened the balcony for Lindsey Buckingham.
ksearls 11-02-2022, 10:49 AM So, my husband is a huge YES fan and they are at the Criterion tonight. I know, it's not the real YES, but Steve Howe. Tons of tickets left. Do they ever mark them down before shows that have low sales? Where is the best place to sit sound-wise??

I think sometimes they do 50% off, but not sure how/when they decide.
I hated the seated show I went to, it just wasn't comfortable due to the seats in one row all being connected to each other and they're on the smallish side (had to deal with a manspreader on one side during the whole show, argh). Having said that, section B on the floor or BB/CC upstairs would be best, since the sound under the balcony on the floor isn't great.
