Nice wide sidewalks and crosswalks with two-lane roads and a center turn lane. Very few on-street parking spaces is good with me too. Sheridan like this west to the tracks, Reno from Lincoln to the tracks. :congrats: Would we ever consider having parking in the middle lane when not close to an intersection, to be used as a turn lane? I know large cities on the east coast have this type of parking. Curious if OKC would do it too? They are starting to do this in Cbus. Moving on-street parking into the middle is also a cool way to free up space and cheaply "protect" a bike lane: https://cbuscyclechic.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/fullsizerender-20.jpg?w=500 Pete 02-08-2016, 08:11 AM Hauling A now... There were a bunch of people working on Sunday trying to get the brick work finished. They've got shows coming up fast. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/criterion020716a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/criterion020716b.jpg Urbanized 02-08-2016, 09:38 AM Now that it's dried in the interior will come together pretty quickly. Advantage of having a mostly wide-open space inside. The exterior doesn't have to be done until the week of the first show, though obviously they will want to be done before that. Pete 02-15-2016, 10:16 AM https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CbRKBrsUMAAG5d1.jpg Urbanized 02-15-2016, 10:46 AM Nice. That is exactly the type of heritage act I figured it would attract when I mentioned other acts like James Taylor and Bob Dylan. That is precisely the type of act for which we didn't have an optimal venue, until the Bricktown Chevy remodel and now the Criterion. Good stuff. OkieHornet 02-15-2016, 11:07 AM i'm curious to see if the allman show will be seated, seeing as how many of his fans are older. So tired of Red Dirt, country. Urbanized 02-21-2016, 01:55 PM Also posted this in OKCFest thread, but...where is all of this Red Dirt and country that you and Chris keep griping about? Here is a listing of pretty much every major (and most smaller) shows booked in the entire state: Shows (http://oklahomarock.com/shows/) Tulsa has many more shows than OKC (especially before the Criterion comes online), but also has WAY more Red Dirt and Americana or country. Your assertions are completely invalid. Incidentally - and I love Gregg Allman - but curious why you chose to ask people to support one of the most country-influenced artists currently booked at The Criterion if you hate country so much? Why not support Disclosure or Kirk Franklin? Pete 02-21-2016, 03:22 PM Only have about a month before their first show: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/criterion022116a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/criterion022116b.jpg TheTravellers 02-21-2016, 04:27 PM I think someone asked somewhere if the Gregg Allman show would have seats, and yes, it's reserved seating (not going, just heard it from someone). Harbinger 02-21-2016, 07:54 PM I know we are getting announcements of a few artists coming down the pike for Criterion, but I would like to get a comparison of what type/genres we can expect here vs Tower and Jones Assembly. OSUFan 02-22-2016, 09:23 AM it's the contemporary variety that sucks. And Red Dirk is everywhere, so worn. Man, it sucks you are forced to go to these concerts. I would be upset too if I had to go to concerts where I didn't enjoy the music. sooner88 02-22-2016, 10:50 AM Glass Animals was announced today for 7/18/16. And Red Dirk is everywhere, so worn. you may think contemporary classic sucks, but a good number of people (and their $$$) in this city/state disagree with you. just a recent sampling of artists that have played/are booked at (and more than likely, sold well) chesapeake arena: brantley gilbert, luke bryan, jason aldean, shania twain, miranda lambert, eric church. OSUFan 02-23-2016, 09:21 AM Doesn't mean they are any good (holy **** I'm agreeing with Edgar, WTF is wrong here?) "Good" is subjective though. I don't really appreciate those acts (except Eric Church) and would never go see them. However, enough people find them good enough to fill up an arena and spend their money in OKC. Good enough for me. OkieHornet 02-23-2016, 09:56 AM Doesn't mean they are any good (holy **** I'm agreeing with Edgar, WTF is wrong here?) i never said they were any good. I grabbed a couple of tickets after doing a little research of reviews from recent concerts. Here's one review from Ticketmaster of a concert at Harrahs in N. Carolina last month... Gregg Allman in Cherokee Harrah's Cherokee Resort Event Center - Cherokee, NC - Sat, Jan 9, 2016 Posted 01/13/2016 by Nette3OfWhee Haven't seen Gregg Allman perform since I was at Burt Reynolds Studio in Jupiter Farms, FL back in 1994. When I found out her was performing at Harrah's Casino, I purchased my ticket as soon as they were available online. Gregg's performance opened with Statesboro Blues. During the concert, Gregg switched between piano and guitar. The brass, drums, keyboard and lead guitarist where phenomenal and complimented well with Gregg's music style. Other songs they played: Soulshine, Queen of Hearts, Whipping Post, Floating Bridge, (my favorite) Melissa, I'm No Angel, Midnight Rider, as well as others. A tribute to Warren Hayes. Only song that he did not play that I was hoping for was Rambling Man, otherwise he played everything I wished for! After all these years, Gregg still has incredible talent and style. A concert to remember! Favorite moment: When Gregg played Melissa Edgar 02-24-2016, 09:49 PM Dunno, sorry, not a fan of him solo, and neither is my brother (who's the one that told me about the seating), so neither of us are going, and hence, not knowing. :) It's not the multi layered mega jams of an Allman Brothers show, Greg does have an excellent band of course. We were dancing around, banging our heads and everything else at Sleigh Bells a coupla years ago at the Diamond, while most of the kids just stood there and nodded their heads, funny... Seems to me counting on the city to get that done between when they finish this and the first show on the 28th is putting a lot of faith in system. Pete 03-07-2016, 02:37 PM ^ No kidding. They must be pretty confident in order to not only open on 3/24 but they have two shows the next weekend as well. BDP 03-07-2016, 04:02 PM ^ No kidding. They must be pretty confident in order to not only open on 3/24 but they have two shows the next weekend as well. They must be pretty far along on the inside too. They also have to get all the audio and lighting installed. Probably not a monster job for an experienced firm, but I can't imagine they're just sitting around waiting for the venue to say "go". If they pull it off, you should try and get an interview with the contractor and find out how they managed this schedule with all the subs. Pete 03-07-2016, 04:07 PM I know they were using a big east coast a/v consultant for their sound work and they specialize in live music venues. Same company is being used by the Jones Assembly. Being in the a/v business myself, I can tell you that the actual installation of the equipment can be done very quickly. Everything gets planned, ordered then you can pre-wire as soon as the walls go up. After they are finished with all the dirty parts of construction, you merely roll the equipment in, install it in place and test everything out. Much more problematic is getting a certificate of occupancy and your liquor license. For the latter, they won't even come out and look until absolutely everything is finished and all the furniture is placed. Then, it still takes weeks. I suspect in this case they will either open without a liquor license or already have some sort of special arrangement for a quick inspection and turn-around. |
