View Full Version : City Skylines around the world
OkieNate 02-27-2015, 01:34 PM Williams Tower is one of my favorite skyscrapers in Houston. It is memorable because of how tall it is for not being in a CBD and how it towers so far above everything around it. Uptown Houston truly is an impressive place. However if I was to name a skyscraper I consider synonymous with the city it's 700 Louisiana.

That is Houston's Bank of America building. Its address is 700 Louisiana.

Yes, I love those highways. Hopefully they eventually turn that interchange into a five stack and widen the existing highways soon. Would be neat to see Texpress style lanes along side of them.

It would be very difficult to get something like that built now in Los Angeles. I know they are upgrading highway standards based on the latest evidence regarding the Puente Hills fault. It was once thought that the San Andreas was the most concerning fault line. But, as it turns out the Puente Hills poses far more danger to the city proper. Concrete would crumble in a disastrous fashion if there was a large quake from the Puente Hills thrust fault. It's a whole different animal in a lot of ways and the chances of a new five stack pancake in LA right now would be nil.

L.A. really has a pathetic skyline for a city of its size. I know it is the poster child for sprawl, but I think OKC's skyline is better when you account for the population of the respective cities. Their skyline is really not impressive.

Perspective is everything. Both of these shots are very impressive (to me anyway).

tfvc.org 03-16-2015, 07:23 PM I like how LA uses the space in the clover leafs. We just have empty grassland,

Those look nice and all, but you're talking about a city of 4 million people, and a metro area of almost 13 million. The Seattle skyline is much, much better.
Heck, take the OKC skyline with the addition of 499 Sheridan and the 4 ClayCo towers. Redevelop the Cox with the proposed towers from the Populous study. Now double that skyline and you're not that far from current day L.A. Los Angeles' skyline should be bigger than 2x OKC 2030.
Urbanized 03-16-2015, 07:39 PM Is that series of buildings and lots inside that cloverleaf the CHP garage and station from CHiPs? Because if so, that is some cool **** right there.

OkieNate 06-17-2015, 04:14 PM I guess no one has been anywhere picture worthy lately?!
Plutonic Panda 01-02-2016, 09:00 PM Haven't seen much activity on this thread lately. Here are some cool underrated cities in the U.S. that have good skylines, imo.
