Yes, they bought the property on the NE corner and a smaller one immediately east.

Thanks Pete.. sorry if I missed that somewhere just hadn't remembered seeing anything about an Oncue that close to me.

That area is suddenly hot, with Sam's Club and Winco planned for the immediate vicinity.

The building on the corner is now Car Hop and the one to the east is a construction company.

Plus, just a mile south you've got the redevelopment of Taft Stadium and the potential for new development related to that (bars, etc.). This is great news!

Great for us. Great place to get gas and not have to wait 10 minutes at 7-11 on Penn due to poor layout. I hope it has a drive thru since it will be just a mile from my house.

I have been wondering when someone would scoop up that property on the north where the care dealership was years ago.. its a big piece of property. sams and Winco could both probably coexist in that area. I like the idea of Winco coming into close vacinity to me as well. I don't like the buy-4-less that is closest to me and don't shop with Walmart so having another option besides Crest will be nice.

Agreed. If it lives up to the hype, Winco will probably become our grocery store.

Pete, any idea how big this will be? At least a comparison to other On-Cue's around the metro?

I hope it lives up to the Hype as well .. although I do love Crest on 23rd but the construction at that intersection really has been driving me crazy. but it has gotten better and at least the light is working now instead of 4 way stop.

and Thanks Pete for removing the space in OnCue on my title.. I meant to go back and edit it.. ugh its definately monday

Before Carpet World, that was originally a Safeway store.

This seems like a very large lot for a convenience store. Better than a used car lot.

Bullbear
09-08-2014, 03:36 PM
it is a large lot.. but take a look at how big the lot is that Oncue sits on at Reno and McCarthur blvd. .they are large stores with lots of pumps and usually a drive through. the one at NW expressway and 63rd is also a pretty big lot. this one might be slightly larger but still.

Have you seen the size of the most recent OnCue spaces?

Mr. Cotter
09-08-2014, 04:17 PM
I'm sure I've bought gas at one, but I couldn't tell you where. I know they're large, but it seems like you could still have an enormous gas station on just the corner lot, without the need to go one parcel east. I'm not complaining, it just seems really big. This will be the closest gas station, other than the Valero with no E10, to my house, and it will be nice to not have to go to that dumpy 7-11 at 23rd and Penn anymore.

What "drive through" are people referring to? Other than stores with a fast food restaurant involved, I've never seen a gas station with a drive through.

Here is a siteplan for their location near Yukon. Note the lane behind the building -- that's the drive-thru.

They are have been including these in the more recent stores:

Still nothing near as big as Buc-ee's (http://www.buc-ees.com/index.php) flagship model gas stations in Texas. I want to say the one in New Braunfels, TX I went to had 100 pumps, and the store is about the size of a Walmart Neighborhood Market or bigger. They make the "beloved" QT's a joke. More food selection (fresh, prepared, and junk food) than you could imagine, an outdoor selection (grills, coolers, etc.), deli and other fresh food areas, and similar to Love's the have an electronics and clothing section too. Massive.

Notice how there are two pump areas (hard to tell in the background), this is only about 1/4 of the regular gas side of the facility. On the back of the facility they have similar setup for the semi-trucks.

Newer OnCue's incorporate a drive through at the back of the store. You can not get everything at the window, but you can grab sodas, candy, chips, milk and some other items. Passing through the lane for the OnCue in Norman (Flood/Tecumseh) has become a regular quick on/off for me if I am headed north out of town in my vehicle and not on a bus.

They are building a similarly large location in Corinth off 35E. I agree these huge stores are a bit obnoxious....I know they faced a lot of opposition from area residents. I can see someone getting lost going to the bathroom lol. Also eat in gas station sushi while taking a road trip seems dangerous.

I do like the new OnCues but nothing beats WaWa in New Jersey. They are the only thing that make driving on the NJ Turnpike bearable.

They sell those 'Power of the Beaver' T-shirts. Buc-ee is a beaver you know. I've been to a couple in the Houston area.

Quik Trip has edged out Wawa as the top convenience store chain the nation the last two years.

I am hopeful that the city will make some minor roadway improvements in the area. I44 and May and on south to 36th is a total mess already. That corridor has terrible traffic flow as the traffic lights there have no sync to them at all. Also I'm hopeful that the new construction of OnCue at 36th and the Sams at I44 will spark renovations of the other outdated buildings in the area like the old Wendy's and Shell station.

sorry to continue off topic but I noticed at the Buc-ee's a few weekends ago in texas a sign that stated the employees make 11.00-15.00 an hour. not too bad for a gas station.

That's 22.8K to 31.2K (if full time), which is significantly more than the 18K I made at my first help desk job with a wife (that didn't work initially) and kid.

That said, while it's a living wage for a 1 or 2 adult household, it's not a living wage for families, per MIT (Living Wage Calculator - Living Wage Calculation for Oklahoma County, Oklahoma (http://livingwage.mit.edu/counties/40109)). Not attempting to get political or what have you, but "living wage" is a thing nowadays.
