...from the Gazette

There’s no denying it, school is back in session and summer is dwindling.

There are still plenty of warm nights in the coming months and Jill Castilla thought Edmond could do with a street festival of its own. Heard on Hurd is a food truck festival that kicks off Sept. 20 with live music and, of course, lots of food.

Castilla, president and CEO of Citizen’s Bank of Edmond, which helped create the event, said she wanted to help create an event to “celebrate the best things about Edmond and invite the entire metro to celebrate with us.”

Between Norman and the metro, all the Fridays were taken, so she thought it would be fun to have a Saturday event. She reached out to Brian Bergman, the man behind the H&8th Night Market, for tips.

When he created H&8th, Bergman’s motivation was that most of the city we see from the car. Being on foot encourages guests to explore a smaller portion of the city from a different place. Castilla is putting some of the same elements in place for the inaugural event. According to a spokesperson for the event, there is a possibility this could become a monthly event.

I think this is a great idea and hope it's something that takes place each month.

The H&8th crowd can sleep better tonight knowing all us Edmondites wont be crashing their gathering anymore, thus making it cool again.

Sarcasm aside, I see this being a big hit and hope the metro comes as well. Should be a hit with UCO folks as well

This is awesome! Heard from some people if it decided it went well, it may be done weekly and hours might expanded just a bit. This is super cool!!!

These were taken around 9-10 pm. Sorry about the quality, they were taken with my Note 2 and I'm hoping the Note Edge will have a much better camera.

Fyi, a bunch of the businesses stayed open later than usual and I saw some sales take place and the restaurants that were open were packed. Good stuff!

Weekly would be a terrible idea IMO. Monthly at most and it remains something to look forward to if done right.

Also, whose idea was it to plan this basically opposite an OU game? I know many people who didn't go simply because of the conflict.

We considered going, but there was the game, and we realized Roxy's wasn't going to be there. So we passed.

They had plenty of screens showing the game and not everyone watches college football.

I didn't say everyone did - but to pretend that doesn't effect attendance is foolish.

Was getting ready to head that way when some friends that were already there said (via text) the lines were moderately long at the popular food trucks and several were already crossing menu items off as 'sold out.' We decided on other entertainment for the night knowing there is a food truck event option most every week and often on multiple nights. I heard mixed reviews - but they were almost identical to what I hear about H&8th - "It was a great time with lots of people" and "It was horrible, way too crowded and lines wee too long."

Regardless, glad they are doing it and hopefully it will stay busy. Went to last week's 'Premiere on Film Row' and it was pretty dead as far as being 'crowded' or having any lines. But we actually preferred it and will go again.

From the Edmond Exchange

Heard on Hurd dates

Heard on Hurd, a street festival that attracted thousands of people to downtown Edmond in September and October, is ready for 2015. The festival will be from 6 to 10 p.m. beginning March 21 and continuing on the third Saturday of each month through Oct. 17. Heard on Hurd will feature more local music, food and shops this year, said Jill Castilla, president and CEO of Citizens Bank of Edmond, which curates the festival. “Both the city of Edmond and its residents responded to Heard on Hurd, and so we’re going big in 2015,” Castilla said. “The corner of Broadway and Hurd is still the epicenter for the party, but now we’re extending our area east from the corner to Littler Street, which gives us space for a whole new line of food trucks.”

from the Oklahoman...

March’s Heard on Hurd will feature blues tunes from Evin Brady, throwback soul sounds from Matt Stansberry & the Romance and the Bourbon Street-flavored jazz of Kyle Reid and the Low Swingin’ Chariots. The Oklahoman named Reid’s album the Top Local Album of 2014
