Yeah I had been telling friends since spring that the Aggie offense would possibly be better without Manziel. Less flair but more substance. As long as we keep Sumlin my Aggies aren't going anywhere.

So we have #17 Virginia Tech, #21 Louisville, #6 Georgia, and #9 USC all falling tonight. Texas almost got UCLA. Probably see the Top 10 looking something like...

1. FSU, 2. Oregon, 3. Alabama, 4. OU, 5. Auburn, 6. TAMU, 7. Baylor, 8. LSU, 9. ND, 10. Mich St or UCLA...maybe even Ole Miss? Though I think it is a bit early to put a 1-loss team in the Top 10 (Mich St).

Say what you want about the sec but there is no doubt that as a football conference they are far and away the best. And really,it's not even close. They will be knocking each other off every week though and IMO the sec prob. does deserve to have 2 in the final 4 playoff. Put any top 5 team in that conference and see where they end up after the season. A 2 loss sec team is most likely better than an undefeated team from the BigXII BigX or Pac.

^ I would be a little surprised at Baylor being so lofty as they would be the only team in the top six that has not beaten a ranked opponent.

As I switched back and forth between OU-TCU and TU-Baylor, it took Baylor some time to wear down the tough Texas defense.

The same was said about TCU until they took down our Sooners. We had opportunities, our defense stepped up in the second half. A running quarterback should always be a target; make him pay if he runs the ball--we did that in the second half.

Strength of schedule should be a factor; however 80% of the schedules are made out so far in advance that it's difficult to predict who will be a viable ranked opponent.

Maintain an unblemished record and your chances are good for getting in. If you lose, an early loss is a lot less damaging than a late loss. TCU will now have the target on their backs.

Baylor has TCU at home followed by WVU on the road, both tough games. If they make it past those they will remain in the top 3 when they visit Norman, possibly #2 if Auburn loses with tough games before 11/8 at Ole Miss and Miss St. They won't lose to KU. Baylor-TCU will be fun to watch after the OU game Saturday.

I think OU handles Texas but it could be a struggle unless the offense starts to click. KState will be a tough game that OU could lose but thankfully it's in Norman. At Iowa St could be difficult too but OU should win. Should OU win those and Baylor stays unbeaten the game in Norman will be one of the biggest in a long time, probably since Tech came in ranked #2 in 2008.

I watched a lot of the Texas Baylor game yesterday and there is no way Baylor should be rankled in the top 10. Texas shouldn't be ranked in the top 200 BTW. In fact, this might be the worst football I have ever seen from this conference. OU is supposed to be top 5 and they looked like crap. The conference as a whole is just no good IMO.

Besides the SEC, which conferences do you think are better?

KSU played Auburn tough and should have won. WVU gave Alabama a helluva game. OSU gave FSU a helluva game. Texas gave UCLA a helluva game and should have won. Yeah, the Big 12 sucks.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Yeah they were close games but the Big 12 teams still lost. If they had won it would be a different story, and a one loss Big 12 champion is a shoe-in for the playoff. As it is that is not 100% certain.

Middling Big 12 teams almost beat National Title contenders and that is proof that the Big 12 as a whole sucks?

totally agree with mississippi state being #1... was concerned that they'd get snubbed by the voters.

however, i have to disagree with ou being ahead of tcu given the head-to-head loss. -M

There are no great teams this year, this is the parity (or should it be parody?) that the NCAA has sought for years. It looks like Ole Miss and Mississippi State may be the two best teams (this week), just a few years ago they were both so bad the Egg Bowl game wasn't even televised.

I also think Ole Miss could handle the Baylor offense which is about 75% over the top throws. The Big 12 is probably second best with the Pac 12 in third. The Big 10 and ACC outside of FSU are pathetic and FSU may not have Winston later in the season.

That happens all of the time. You can't always use that as a final guideline in ranking teams. Please note that Oregon is rated head of Arizona and Arizona is rated ahead of USC. Both Oregon and Arizona lost at home to the other team. OU's loss was on the road so OU being ranked higher is less surprising.

The problem is, on what basis would OU be ahead of TCU? TCU just pushed Baylor to the brink in Waco. TCU should likely move up further based on their good showing, but even before that game their overall resume is superior to OU's. Whereas OU looked mediocre against a mediocre Texas team.

You're right that this happens all the time... and it's wrong all the time. Voters rely too much on preseason rankings to just move teams up and down the polls instead of voting fluidly based on actual results. If OU ends up being the better team then they'll move ahead of TCU, but on-the-field-results don't support that yet. Things often (but not always) work themselves out by the end of the season, but that still doesn't justify lazy voters. At least the polls don't count this year... even if they likely influence perception.

Not sure where else to put this, but a very cool map done by the New York Times on college fandom based on facebook likes. No surprise OU dominates the state outside of Payne County, but interesting that OU is at least the 2nd or 3rd most popular school in counties/zip codes stretching well into New Mexico, North Texas, Kansas, and Missouri.

Not much discussion here about it, the CFP Poll, but still interesting to say the least. Big takeaway people at CBS Sports took is that the panel is ranking by losses. The group of unbeatens together, then 1-loss teams, and so on. It would appear, regardless of scheduled strength, 2-loss mean elimination from the playoff. The oddities of this of course include ECU and Duke. The Big 12 still has some hope if TCU can run the table.

The complete College Football Playoff top 25 rankings (as of Oct. 28):

1. Mississippi State (7-0)
2. Florida State (7-0)
3. Auburn (6-1)
4. Ole Miss (7-1)
5. Oregon (7-1)
6. Alabama (7-1)
7. TCU (6-1)
8. Michigan State (7-1)
9. Kansas State (6-1)
10. Notre Dame (6-1)
11. Georgia (6-1)
12. Arizona (6-1)
13. Baylor (6-1)
14. Arizona State (6-1)
15. Nebraska (7-1)
16. Ohio State (6-1)

Honestly, I think K-State running the table, would produce the best chance for a Big 12 team, to secure a Final 4 spot. An undefeated in conference champion, with their only loss coming to a well thought of Auburn team. Only reason, I say that...it that it would be pretty hard to not include a conference champ, that went through their entire conference undefeated. Wheres TCU already has a conference loss.

But my honest opinion, is that its gonna get crazy...and all of the teams that seem like locks right now...will probably lose atleast once...maybe even twice. The season is only half way through.
