Some good movement for the Big 12 in the polls. We now have 3 teams in the Top 10 in both the AP and Coaches polls. TCU is the highest ranked in the conference. West Virginia survived from dropping out keeping 5 teams in the Top 25.

Look for the committee to select four teams among the five conferences; doubt if any conference will have more than one representive:

Atlantic Coast: Florida State 12-0 (ACC championship: vs. Georgia Tech 10-2 in Charlotte, NC)
Big Ten: Ohio State 11-1 (Big Ten championship game: vs. Wisconsin 10-2 in Indianapolis, IN)
Big Twelve: Baylor 11-1 or TCU 10-1
Pac Twelve: Oregon 11-1 (Pac 12 championship: vs. Arizona 10-2 in Santa Ana, CA)
SEC: Alabama 11-1 (SEC Championship game; vs. Missouri 10-2 in Atlanta, GA)

NCAA Championship game will be in Arlington: could the committee be pressured to select one of the Big XII's schools?

One of the conferences will get left out in the cold...

I'm sure there will be all kinds of pressure on the committee but I don't think the location of the game will have anything to do with that at all.

And, as long as it's a four team playoff, there will always be at least one conference left out in the cold.

If Oregon, Florida State, or Alabama lose their conference championship games then the Big 12 will likely get 2 teams. There is no way Ohio State should be above either Big 12 team as they have by far the worst loss and play in a very weak Big 10.

The job of the committee is to select the "best" 4 teams, not worry about conference. The committee has clearly shown that and had Mississippi State won yesterday then then the SEC would have likely had two teams.

The comments from the committee have shown inconsistent (i.e., how they count top 25 wins) and illogical (i.e., Ohio State's loss wasn't bad) reasoning. Why did we not just use the BCS system to determine the top 4 teams?

I said it at the time and I'll say it again: No way these decisions should be the hands of 12 people, almost all of whom have incredible conflicts of interest due to their school/conference affiliations.

They should have stuck to the primarily computer-driven BCS model and just expanded to 4 teams.

Yup. My opinion...they should have kept the BCS computers and tossed out the human polls. Remove emotion and bias as much as possible.

The mass firing season has started (Muschamp was earlier), Pelini out at Nebraska.

I think Nebraska will regret firing him. Bo Pelini's biggest sin was his name was not Tom Osborne.

Clemson OC (and former Tulsa OC) is to be introduced as the new SMU Head Coach tomorrow. I think he may have jumped at a job a bit too early unless he just wanted to go back to Texas. He was the former Head Coach at Lake Travis HS in the Austin area and had former Texas Tech and current Virginia Tech QB Michael Brewer at Lake Travis.

They forget Tom Osborne lost several 'big games' too.

Deja vu all over again

"I refuse to let the program gravitate into mediocrity, we won't surrender the Big 12 to Oklahoma and Texas."

Despite firing a coach with a 9-3 record that season and a 58-19 career mark, Pederson said he was not running a "win at all costs" program.

Just replace Oklahoma and Texas with Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, etc.

big 12 - "one true champion"

Makes you wonder if the conference stuck by the head to head tie breaker they talked about earlier in the year, if this would have been different.

The guy just now on TV (not sure what station my husband was watching) pretty much said that. Didn't come out and say it, more like, there wasn't that game so we can't say what would have happened if there had been that game.... sort of thing.

I told everyone when Big12 did not look to add BYU and Louisville so that they would have conference championship game they would get hurt. Also thank Wisconsin because that what got Ohio State in with there third string QB.

Big 12 shooting themselves in the foot entirely. Should have gotten Louisville when they had the chance. FSU was vulnerable when the conference lost it's first teams. Should have tried to scoop them up as well.

The Big 12 is the second toughest conference. It should not be passed by the ACC, Pac 12, and B1G.

Not having a declared champion and Bowlsby essentially telling the selection committee to pick...was not really smart. The committee didn't want anything to do in selecting our champion and instead eliminated both teams and took the next in line.

The BigXII has lost it's Cache. It is not the 2nd best conference any longer. It also doesn't have the TV sets of the other conferences. You can than Texas for all this. Might as well be the old SWC. And I don't see things changing and if the BigXII is still a conference in 5 years from now I will be surprised. BigXII needs to be disbanded and split up between SEC-PAC-ACC-Big Ten IMO. Just have 4 power conferences and go to an 8 team playoff. 4 conference winners and then 4 at large slots. I think that's where we are headed. It will be so much better when that time comes. The old Big 8 should have never taken Texas in and let them run the show. They destroyed the old SWC and they have now destroyed what was a great BigXII conference.

Texas A & M, Missouri (SEC), Colorado (Pac XII) and Nebraska (Big X) should have stayed in the conference.

Texas will continue to chart the future of the Big XII for their own agenda; when the Longhorns have no further use for the conference, they will part ways (Independent). They run off their in-state rival Texas A & M. The Longhorns can be credited with the departure of Nebraska & Missouri.

OU has learned how to co-exist with the University of Texas.

Does anyone know the status of the Longhorn channel?

LHN is still on in some places, it never came anywhere close to the market penetration that ESPN thought it would. ESPN could kill it if they wanted to, it is in that window or they could make it into a Big 12 network. They need to look at all options, Texas and OU chose to split up the pot with fewer teams and it came back to haunt them. Maybe since Dodds is gone UT will be a bit more open. The best add at this point would be BYU but who would be the other 1 or 3 teams?

The academic future of this thing called the Big 12 is pretty sad. Almost all the B1G are Top 50 institutions while we're replacing Mizzou, Colorado, and A&M with WVU.

Ohio state passing TCU and Baylor is very frightening for every team in the big 12 not named OU or TExas. If Oklahoma state was where either Baylor or tcu was, they would have been leaped frogged as well. This playoff is about money, and if you aren't a household brand name you will probably get skipped. ALL the playoff cares about is ratings, and Ohio state will bring better ratings than Baylor tcu or ksu or Oklahoma state.

I think with the work Gundy has done there in the recent past that has raised the national profile of OSU. I think they are perceived to be at a higher level than both TCU or Baylor. Baylor is remembered for historically bad football (only outdone by the 80's era K-State teams) and TCU is still viewed as a second tier conference vagabond.
