venture 08-29-2014, 08:19 PM It's so purdy. :) Looking good Pete! Love the theme/skin. OKCDrummer77 08-29-2014, 08:20 PM Second that! It changed for me in the middle of browsing within the last half hour or so. I like the top menu that follows you down so you don't have to go back to the top to hit the "New Posts" button. Pete 08-29-2014, 08:23 PM Thanks guys! It's still a work in progress but I've been testing it for a few weeks and decided to turn it loose. Will be the platform for many more improvements. Snowman 08-29-2014, 08:23 PM I reallly like how the click for next unread post of a thread is much larger now catch22 08-29-2014, 08:24 PM Great job, Pete. Looks good and refreshing. Bold and professional. Clown puncher 08-29-2014, 08:36 PM Very impressive , I thought I was on the wrong site.:D PennyQuilts 08-29-2014, 09:03 PM Very, very nice!! shavethewhales 08-29-2014, 09:07 PM I like it, it's definitely feels more modern. I suggest getting rid of the topic title in each post though, I think it's just filler on an already busy content area. And if I can go off on a tangent on forum design: a lot of people forget that forums like this one evolved out of email chains and early email-based chat display boards. The general format just stays the same even though the pace of conversation and the technology behind it is so much more advanced now. A lot of forum staples like signatures, user information, avatars, etc, are just relics of a bygone internet era, IMO. When you pause to think about how much area of the page is actually dedicated to post content vs. all this other stuff that you automatically zone out, it really makes you wonder why forum design isn't really evolving at all. I thought that the reddit-style approach with streamlined comments and comment trees would have taken over by now. You can read entire conversations without hardly scrolling on Reddit, but while that site in particular seems to be getting more and more popular, the design itself doesn't seem to have much influence yet. Just something I've been thinking about. I own a forum myself and have been party to a lot of forum re-designs lately. AP 08-29-2014, 09:48 PM I definitely said, "Oh wow" when it came up. Thought I was on the wrong site for a sec. Love it though. Good job, Pete. ctchandler 08-29-2014, 09:50 PM Pete, Very nice. As a moderator on a Yahoo group, I'm not hung up on the appearance but this is impressive and as usual, it's still very functional. Thanks for all of your work. C. T. Tritone 08-29-2014, 09:56 PM Impressive. Thanks, Pete, for your work. Ginkasa 08-29-2014, 10:48 PM It feels very similar to The Lost Ogle. Soonerman 08-29-2014, 11:12 PM Very nice Pete!! David 08-29-2014, 11:47 PM Not bad. Any technical improvements under the hood, or just a new skin? gopokes88 08-30-2014, 12:19 AM I like it a lot and I usually hate website updates. venture 08-30-2014, 12:21 AM One feature I just noticed is that folks on your ignore list show up in a very dark gray that makes their posts pretty hard to read. Only improvement there would be make the post nearly invisible that is just passed over or doesn't even appear. Prunepicker 08-30-2014, 12:26 AM Impressive. Thanks, Pete, for your work. I love it. I hate it. It's wonderful. It's awful. So impressive. So depressive. I don't'/do know what to think of it. Thundercitizen 08-30-2014, 12:51 AM Nice, clean, professional look. You now have my approval to press forward with this design. :) Great work! kevinpate 08-30-2014, 04:35 AM I suppose someone needs to be a negative ned, so may as well be me. Not an instant fan of the change. Perhaps it will grow on me. Works for mold and bread. Stew 08-30-2014, 05:14 AM Awesome! Pete 08-30-2014, 06:12 AM Not bad. Any technical improvements under the hood, or just a new skin? Lots of new features that aren't quite ready for full release. Urban Pioneer 08-30-2014, 06:51 AM Great job. Urbanized 08-30-2014, 07:09 AM It's a little bit wonky on the ol' iPad, but at the same time the latest post button next to each thread title is WAY easier to successfully jab with your thumb. The other was so tiny and close to other stuff that you often fat-fingered and frustratingly went to the wrong location (or at least I did). So overall big navigational improvement for me. Also, obviously nicer aesthetically. venture 08-30-2014, 07:29 AM Couple things of note, but these might already be known. 1) Wiki articles (the main post) sit on top of the menu bar at the top until you scroll all the way through. 2) Images no longer resize correctly inside tables with size restrictions. Haven't noticed anything else though. :) David 08-30-2014, 07:56 AM Lots of new features that aren't quite ready for full release. Any chance Embedded Tweet (https://dev.twitter.com/docs/embedded-tweets) integration is coming? Going the other direction, I could see Twitter Cards (https://dev.twitter.com/docs/cards) being useful for the Wiki articles. Admin 08-30-2014, 08:01 AM Couple things of note, but these might already be known. 1) Wiki articles (the main post) sit on top of the menu bar at the top until you scroll all the way through. 2) Images no longer resize correctly inside tables with size restrictions. Haven't noticed anything else though. :) #2 should be fixed now. I'm aware of #1 but there is no easy fix. venture 08-30-2014, 08:41 AM #2 should be fixed now. I'm aware of #1 but there is no easy fix. Looks good. :) Ty for the quick fix! Just passing on what I noticed. #1 is pretty minor, but thought I would pass it on. Bunty 08-30-2014, 12:52 PM Please find a better background picture. It is absolutely terrible. It makes downtown OKC look like a totally lifeless ghost town. Hopefully, it's just fill in until a better picture can be found. Pete 08-30-2014, 12:54 PM It's temporary. And don't appreciate the "absolutely terrible" comment. zookeeper 08-30-2014, 01:00 PM I love it. I think it's a much more professional look and the typography alone lifts it far above what we had before. Excellent job, Pete. kevinpate 08-30-2014, 01:30 PM I will amend my earlier comment of not being an instant fan. I actually do prefer the new skin while using my phone. Plutonic Panda 08-30-2014, 01:56 PM Couple of things here: Really cool overall. It's always nice to have a new feel to things every now and then When you go to a certain section... there are the threads that you have read that are a lighter blue and the ones you haven't read are a darker blue.. I would suggest making the links to the threads you haven't read more dark than they are now to make them stand out more The picture is pretty cool, but I really liked the old one :p But that is just personal preference. Also, I think it would be cooler if the picture stood out more. Anyways, hope that wasn't too bad lol... I was just thinking a little criticism ;) I really like it overall Dustin 08-30-2014, 04:08 PM Very nice Pete! I really like that the 'forum, latest post, topic search' bar is sticky as you scroll down. BBatesokc 08-30-2014, 05:54 PM Am I missing how you tell is a thread is one you've commented on before? I located a couple of threads I knew I commented on and I couldn't see anything differentiating it from threads I had not previously commented on. Earlier I thought I saw a tiny green icon, but now I see nothing. MadMonk 08-30-2014, 11:22 PM Just logged in today and saw the changes. The new theme is very easy on the eyes. Great job! Ginkasa 08-30-2014, 11:39 PM Am I missing how you tell is a thread is one you've commented on before? I located a couple of threads I knew I commented on and I couldn't see anything differentiating it from threads I had not previously commented on. Earlier I thought I saw a tiny green icon, but now I see nothing. That icon seems to be only showing sporadically, at least for me. OSUMom 08-31-2014, 12:55 AM Maybe I'm being dense, but there is something I can't find. Let's say I'm in a specific area of the forums, say this one, Announcements & Help Desk. I go to read a tread like this one, Ooooo...... So I read it and now I want to go back up to Announcements & Help Desk. Where do I click to navigate back up a level like that? I see that Quick Navigation area and I can go there and scroll down to the area I want to go to, but surely there must be a quicker way (like a one-click link) to just take me back up a level. Like I said, probably just being dense and missing something huge and flashing at me. Bunty 08-31-2014, 02:19 AM The picture is pretty cool, but I really liked the old one :p But that is just personal preference. Also, I think it would be cooler if the picture stood out more. You like the ghost town at twilight look, huh? Bunty 08-31-2014, 02:29 AM It's temporary. And don't appreciate the "absolutely terrible" comment.I look forward to a better photo. Otherwise, I like the new changes. Plutonic Panda 08-31-2014, 03:14 AM You like the ghost town at twilight look, huh?Well, I liked the old photo because it really made our city stand out and an incredible shot. A night shot with the park, core to shore mostly developed, blvd. built, and more infill coupled with various projects around the metro to add to background lights in the vicinity will be incredible in 5-10 years Oh GAWD the Smell! 08-31-2014, 07:34 AM Am I missing how you tell is a thread is one you've commented on before? I located a couple of threads I knew I commented on and I couldn't see anything differentiating it from threads I had not previously commented on. Earlier I thought I saw a tiny green icon, but now I see nothing. See below. That icon seems to be only showing sporadically, at least for me. Same here. I've seen it on a few threads, but not all that I've commented in. Pete 08-31-2014, 09:22 AM Maybe I'm being dense, but there is something I can't find. It was a pleasant surprise, thanks for all the work that's been put into this. :) OSUMom 08-31-2014, 11:11 AM Go to the very top of the page -- the black bar. I see it. Thank you! I knew I was just missing it. David 08-31-2014, 02:06 PM I'm getting some funny behavior on the Go To First New Post link on threads. 9071 That's the usual placeholder for a font character that isn't loading correctly. Digging into the CSS it looks like the "\f105 \f105" content isn't being matched up to a displayable character. It might just be broken for me since I'm running Chrome dev channel. AP 08-31-2014, 03:55 PM I usually skim through latest posts for the icon that shows I've commented on the thread before (used to be a green icon.) Is that going to be updated as well? Plutonic Panda 08-31-2014, 04:58 PM That's the usual placeholder for a font character that isn't loading correctly. It might just be broken for me since I'm running Chrome dev channel.what did you just say? lol.... you must know your stuff man Mel 08-31-2014, 05:27 PM Well snap. I go away for a little bit and everything changed. I've noticed this happens more often the older you get.;) Pete 08-31-2014, 05:39 PM I'm aware several of the icons are not working correctly and we're working on it. blangtang 09-01-2014, 12:26 AM feedback... i have to scroll down a lot.... then i click on a topic like "current events" and i have to scroll down to see the content, i'm only seeing one thread without scrolling down...maybe my font size is screwed up or something, or ad-block, i don't know... but the main page font size and header seems huge...good for the geriatric crowd :) jerrywall 09-02-2014, 10:31 PM Am I blind or is there no longer breadcrumbs? For those that don't know, breadcrumbs are the links that allow you to go back to the forum you're in. jerrywall 09-02-2014, 10:34 PM Nevermind.. saw it. Victim of the blue type on black background... not great for me, since I'm colorblind and miss stuff like that, but the functionality is still there at least. RadicalModerate 09-02-2014, 10:36 PM Thanks, Pete. Looks good. Works well. Change is inevitable. This one ain't bad. It's cool. =) kevinpate 09-03-2014, 10:16 AM Pete, jerrywall has a fair point about the dark blue on black background in the top bar. That's not an easy read at all. Pete 09-03-2014, 10:34 AM Pete, jerrywall has a fair point about the dark blue on black background in the top bar. That's not an easy read at all. I lightened it up a bit. kevinpate 09-03-2014, 10:58 AM Yer better than gravy on a biscuit! jerrywall 09-03-2014, 11:55 AM I lightened it up a bit. Thanks, it makes a big difference for me, and I can read everything now. OKCisOK4me 09-03-2014, 12:28 PM I will miss my orange and gray Tapatalk. I get it if it cost you to have your site be accessible through Tapatalk. I agree with everyone else on the site updates. Looks really good--modern BIG LEAGUE! Thanks for working hard on improving the site, Pete. I have no doubt it will grow back on me ;-) catch22 09-03-2014, 06:00 PM Looks great Pete. Congrats on the new format, I feel it will be very successful and a good start to a new chapter in the evolution and maturing of this site. Thanks as always for the hard work and dedication to OKC and this site. yukong 09-03-2014, 10:52 PM Hate it that you have dropped Tapatalk. I accessed the site about 90% via my iPhone, and I hate using mobile safari. Tapatalk made it a great experience. Will diminish my enjoyment, and thus my use of the site. Oh, well...I'm sure you had your reasons. |
