Has anybody tried this place?

It's West African and features some very interesting dishes -- some quite spicy.

Has received pretty much great reviews; reasonable prices.

It and Queen of Sheba have been on miy list of places to try for quite awhile but the other half refuses to try them and I'm rarely in that part of town by myself around dinner time.

Heard nothing but good things about both.

Here is what might be the worst written review ever but I'm throwing it out there anyway.
I liked it enough that I want to try it again.
I wasn't impressed enough to start recommending it to friends.
So maybe after the 2nd trip I'll have a real recommendation.

I went to Mama Sinmi's about a year ago. The original plan was to try Queen of Sheba next door but it was closed. My date and I had the goat soup and a dish called Fufu, if I recall correctly. The flavor of the food is reminiscent of Louisiana cuisine as it has many of the same elements. The place itself is on the smaller side but is quite clean. The owner herself, Mama Sinmi, is quite pleasant and more than willing to explain West African cuisine to you and your party. IMHO this is a mom and pop business that is one of a kind in the City. It is definitely a place worthy of checking out. think about it, East African cuisine next door and Western African food at Mama Sinmi's.

Surprisingly never heard of it. Odd to use "Chop House" for an African cuisine place, and horrible logo.

from their web site: Home - Menu, Mama Sinmi's Chop House, West African Cuisine (http://www.mamasinmi.com)

"Where are the chops? To 'chop' in West African pidgin means to 'eat', therefore we are not a chophouse in the known lingo, but we do have meat: our 'suya' is to die for. So come chop!"

Been a couple times. . . someplace unique, interesting. . .and good!!

Depends on where one is coming from.

My saying something was better than gravy on a biscuit used to puzzle friends of mine from elsewhere.
To them, a biscuit was a small cookie. We eventually got on the same page.

I have never tried it, but a few of my Nigerian coworkers love it.

Oh no!

Well, my own fault for not making more of an effort to get over there.

Same here... I only made it a couple of times for lunch.... Queen of Sheba is still there but I think they are dinner service only.

They closed!? When I lived in OKC, this was a frequent place for me. They had AMAZING meat pies.

:Smiley199 on the amazing meat pies!

They will still be making and retailing their sauces but the restaurant is closed.
