View Full Version : Restaurants in your regular rotation
TheTravellers 08-27-2024, 09:20 AM Yes it is and no they aren't that similar in any way but that they both have/had sandwiches.... Enjoyed both Neptune's, when the others were here, but mostly went to the other Neptune for the Philly.
I used to go to the Neptune's where Half Price Books is now at 63rd/May decades ago and seems to me the sandwiches are pretty much the same at the Classen Neptune's as they were at that one.

That may have been one of the local Neptune's. I know they had multiple locations back in the 90's. I mostly went to the southside and short lived Moore location but the Neptune's on Meridian was different than those two.

This was actually back in the 70s that I ate there, and pretty sure they were local. We weren't here from 1995 - 2009, so any Neptune's during that period is unknown to me, didn't know there were non-local versions of them.
CaptDave 08-27-2024, 10:01 AM Oh yeah -
If we drive to OKC it is almost always
Cafe De l'Asie
Sean Cummings / Vito's
Burger Punk
bamarsha 08-27-2024, 10:17 AM Unfortunately, I am bound by my young kids to CFA and Raising Cane's. I about can't even eat at those places anymore, but...
Hacienda Taco, Qdoba, and Earl's are my go-to places, but I try to go to a lot of different places when I can. Little Mike's is a great burger with actual cherry and vanilla for your coke.
I went to Neptunes on N Rockwell around 16th back in the 90s and maybe the late 80s. It was in a strip shopping center. Im going to have to try the one on Classen.

From my experience, the Classen location has food very similar to the Neptune's I knew in the 70s, specifically the location at 63rd & Meridian.
Same bread, same toppings, same taste.

Never had that burger (or even have seen it in person)... but Google does confirm it is the place. Makes sense with the funnies posted throughout.

Yeah, that bread, man....
Im pretty sure Little Mikes was in QS Mall before the NW Highway location.

I might need to start adding Saturn Grill to my regular rotation. Their Meatloaf sandwich is so darn good!

It is a shame, because I do think the food looks good. I will never set foot in a place like that though.

Hard pass. I prefer my meals without a side of politics. (from either side) I generally won't even go into a business with a political sign up.
PoliSciGuy 08-27-2024, 03:30 PM Kinda slim pickings way out where I'm at but:
Thai La Moon
S&B's Burgers
Pub W
Sushi Bar
Mio's Italian Kitchen (now that Moni's is closed)
Hidalgo's
Szechuan Garden

Totally agree. I am there for the food, not your politics.

Yes, that was the late 80s/early 90s.
warreng88 08-28-2024, 09:59 AM Didn't realize how much I had in common with people on the board and food:
Work lunch with co-workers:

Burger Punk on Britton
Flower Child
Republic
Chalk (Chisholm Creek)

Sauced on Paseo
Work lunch with clients:
Ramsay's Kitchen

Iron Starr
Oso on Paseo
Eddie's
Family casual food (usually going there, but a lot of picking it up and bringing it home):
Tuckers
Spark
CFA
Domino's (not eating in, getting it to go)
Empire Slice House
Hall's Pizza Kitchen
Oso on Paseo
Family Night out (with a kid):
Birra Birra
Upper Crust
Hideaway Pizza
Iron Starr
Cheever's
Red Rock
Mama Roja's
Clark Crew BBQ
Night out with just the wife:
Broadway 10
Red Prime Steakhouse
Nonesuch

I am sure there are others, but these are the regular rotation for us.

Same guy owns Zorba's and they get the food from the same distributor.

Doesn't pretty much every restaurant here (with exceptions like the farm-to-table, upper-scale, etc. ones) use the same two distributors - Ben E Keith and Sysco?
PhiAlpha 08-28-2024, 10:24 AM Yeah, that bread, man....
Very good.
Urbanized 08-28-2024, 11:19 AM I was told by a worker at Neptune’s that it was now owned by the ownership of OnCue. I’m not certain about how accurate that is, but I do know that it was sold recently because a friend of mine was considering buying it.

That would explain all the recent updates to the interior.
TheTravellers 08-28-2024, 11:47 AM That would explain all the recent updates to the interior.
Ah, yeah, makes sense, we thought it was much nicer the last time we were in a couple of weeks ago, and I think their hours might've expanded a bit too.

They are under new ownership but this seems odd considering they are opening a 2nd location in the new eExpress opening in Moore soon. Why would they open in a competitor's convenience store?
Bill Robertson 08-28-2024, 12:06 PM A bit off topic but it does concern restaurants on my list. The sheriffs office went up NW Exp a couple weeks ago. Since then we've been told our favorite bartender at Buffalo Wild Wings, a bartender at Chilis and a bartender at Hideaway all got fired for not properly IDing.

Actually now that you say this I think I was mistakenly recalling it as OnCue when in fact it was eExpress. I thought it was interesting at the time, because he made it seem like they'd purchased the existing brand more than just specifically that store on Classen, with the intention of using that branding on sandwich counters inside the stores in the chain.

Wonder what the exact circumstances were? I thought there was a law recently passed that basically said if you truly look over 21, the bartender/cashier/whatever is not required to ID you.

Guessing it was not ID-ing a person under 21 and selling them alcohol. Sheriff's office does these stings on a regular basis.

Yeah, I figured, but wondered since everybody in Sean Cummings got carded last time we were there, even though some looked older than us, and the server explained that ABLE was cracking down, so they are carding *everybody*.
Bill Robertson 08-28-2024, 12:42 PM Guessing it was not ID-ing a person under 21 and selling them alcohol. Sheriff's office does these stings on a regular basis. We hit the NW Exp restaurants a lot. What we're hearing regularly is they hit Hooters, Buffalo Wild Wings, Hideaway, Chili's, Louie's and ? other places we don't go. It was 2 males assumed to be 50ish and a female that looked "at least mid to late 20s". But her ID had a date making her 19. At least one bartender that we know enough to talk to outside of work says she IDd the woman but didn't really do the math because she looked old enough.
We saw someone at the table next to us at Bubbas 33 just this week get IDed by the waitress that we thought was obviously at least in his 40s and possibly in his 50s. He was with what looked to be 3 teenagers.

We got IDed at Olive Garden in Lawton on Thursday. There were three of us that were sharing a bottle of wine. The ages of the three of us are 72, 69, and 66. The waiter said sorry but it's the state law and he had to do it. He actually looked at our ID very closely.

What is funny is everyone thought that. We looked high and low through the statutes and couldn't find it. May have been an ABLE rule but was not state law that we could find.

Probably just restaurant owners wanting their servers/bartenders to check everyone’s ID’s instead of making the judgment call on their own. Makes sense I guess but funny when they ID people who are 4 times the age requirement.
TheTravellers 08-31-2024, 01:28 PM Turns out Odell's Law (you don't have to ID anybody that is obviously over 21) doesn't take effect until November:
