View Full Version : Treasures Past
Urban Pioneer 07-08-2014, 09:12 AM Treasures Past is moving from their location on Automobile Alley to the Bricktown Canal.
They will be taking approximately 7,000 square feet at the canal level of the Miller Jackson Building. It's space formerly occupied by the Red Dirt Marketplace.
They hope to be open in the new location by August 1st.

The owners also plan to incorporate other vendors selling antiques, art and jewelry.
Treasures Past has been at it's current location in AA for several years and specializes in nice antiques and some mid-century items as well.

Interesting.
I met the owners -- really nice people -- at our last OKCTalk gathering on the Rawhide roof.
They've been in AA for several years.
BBatesokc 07-08-2014, 09:27 AM We've bought things from them at this and their other prior location. Very friendly people.
Hope the move is a good thing!
Just spoke to the owner and confirmed they will be relocating to canal level at the Miller Jackson building.
See article at top of page for more details.
Urban Pioneer 07-08-2014, 12:54 PM Yep. I wasn't sure if it was official and therefore didn't write it. lol Glad he talked with you.
Mr. Cotter 07-08-2014, 01:21 PM That is interesting. Great store, and I hope the new location works out well for them. Other than the lower foot traffic issue, I'm hoping they've thought of a way to get items up to customer's vehicles. Much of their merchandise is very large furniture. I've found several great things there, and look forward to the new, bigger, location.
DammitDan 07-08-2014, 04:12 PM I wonder what's going to go into the AA space once they move out? I remember when it was a bike shop before the antique store moved in.
amaesquire 07-10-2014, 03:15 PM I just saw on Twitter that Urbane is moving to Automobile Alley. Are they taking this space?

Yep.
PhiAlpha 07-11-2014, 01:49 PM Yep.
Nice, sticking to retail. I was slightly concerned that we would end up with another ground floor office space.
shawnw 07-15-2014, 03:34 PM That would explain the moving truck I saw this morning.
I liked the midtown location. I liked the AA location. Felt like both made sense. What's strange is they lamented less parking in AA vs Midtown (when I asked about the move shortly after it happened). Not sure Bricktown really solves this "problem", and you'd think the rent wouldn't be cheaper.
This going in the old Peach Wave location? Kinda sad that location isn't being used for another food/snack establishment if so, but okay with this going there. Just a bit baffled by it in some ways.
Edit: Didn't catch the "canal level" part. So if I buy a big piece of furniture, how do I get it to my car from the canal level?

Interesting. If I were them, I'd move more towards mid century modern, given their location. But they've got some nice stuff. I'm not much of an antique person anymore, but have bought a couple things there.

Now that's bad for my bank account. I really like their stuff. They will be a good addition to existing retail, as they're different from Plenty and Rawhide, but probably appeal to the right demographic.
soonerguru 07-16-2014, 09:37 AM This seems like a mistake.
shawnw 07-16-2014, 09:41 AM I hope it's not some kind of last ditch effort to keep it from dying (vs it being totally fine and just needing a new place due to lease conditions). To be clear, I don't want it to die.
BBatesokc 07-16-2014, 11:09 AM This seems like a mistake.
Without knowing any other details - I'd agree. Their current location IMO is better for actual sales.
Urban Pioneer 07-16-2014, 12:09 PM Having been here the entire time directly across the hall, I would say that their biggest problem has been inconsistent hours and no way for customers to actually get a hold of them. We had droves of folks stopping in our unit asking when they would be open. They would never leave a note on their doors as to when they would be there or how to get a hold of them by phone.
And also their prior location, now GoGo Sushi, offered a very large parking lot in which they would drag stuff outdoors an almost garage sale style way thus enticing customers to stop.
Treasure's Past has great furniture at reasonable prices for the folks who like antiques. And they had a modest selection of Mid Century Furniture as well. They are friends, and as friends I hate to be critical. It's their business. But the inconsistent hours, the lack of communication, the parking problem, and the raise in rent are why they moved.
They are taking the old Red Dirt Emporium location in Bricktown and here's hopes that they can make that space and a new business model work better. If their rent is reasonable and they are willing to ship pieces out of the city to tourist's homes who may shop there, I can't see any reason they would be less successful than on Auto Alley.

Freight elevator
shawnw 07-16-2014, 12:45 PM Freight elevator
oh good, didn't realize there was one

Well, the parking didn't get any better and I don't see how the rent could but hopefully so.
Urbanized 07-16-2014, 02:31 PM ...They are taking the old Red Dirt Emporium location in Bricktown and here's hopes that they can make that space and a new business model work better...
For a number of reasons I am not going to get too involved in this topic but would like to point out that this is NOT the former Red Dirt Emporium location but instead the location of the (no longer operating) Bricktown Marketplace, which was an offshoot of Oklahoma's Red Dirt Emporium, which itself was located in the space now occupied by Pinot's Palette. The Oklahoma's Red Dirt Emporium brand is still around (with different owners) on the street level of the canal, next to Knuck's wheelhouse. Treasures Past was a tenant of Bricktown Marketplace pretty much the entire time it was open, and had nearly 1000 sq ft of large antiques displayed there, so they are not unfamiliar with the location.
Urban Pioneer 07-16-2014, 06:43 PM Thanks for the clarification. To me, it was the same destination. Red Dirt, Red Dirt.... And I usually went to both.
It's official now from the Urbane twitter feed (https://twitter.com/urbaneokc):
It's official! We're moving to 1015 N. Broadway, next door to @coffeeslingers Look for us in September!
betts 07-16-2014, 09:14 PM Very exciting!
The Urbane store will almost certainly be prettier than Treasures Past, which will make Broadway that much nicer.
Urbanized 07-17-2014, 07:03 AM Urbane is a fantastic addition to Automobile Alley.
betts 07-17-2014, 09:06 AM The fact that Urbane is moving from Western shows that local perceptions of where one might shop are changing.
shawnw 07-17-2014, 09:48 AM How long until the french cowgirl moves?
BBatesokc 07-21-2014, 08:38 PM It's official now from the Urbane twitter feed (https://twitter.com/urbaneokc):
Thank God you posted that link to their Twitter. I didn't have a clue what Urbane is, and when I Googled it I got this...... Fashionable nurse scrubs, nurses? uniforms and lab coats from Urbane Scrubs | UrbaneScrubs.com (http://www.urbanescrubs.com) I was like "What the heck, what's to be excited about?!!?"
Urbane will open in the former Treasures Past space on Sept. 1st.
Their other location on Western is now closed.
Urbane is having their grand opening celebration during September's Auto Alley Shop Hop, September 18th. Event info: https://www.facebook.com/events/682589095156719/?ref=5
