SoonerDave 07-07-2014, 05:23 PM One of the promos that they have been airing says something big is coming back to where it Belongs? Does anyone know what that means is someone coming back to the Sports Animal??? No clue, but I suspect the reality will be far less impressive than the promotion. I've heard no rumblings at all of any erstwhile Franchise defectees moving back, but I have a feeling that's what they want you to think. I wonder if it is perhaps an "overall #1 rating" in the last book? Something that will just give most folks a facepalm rather than anything of substance. I think the Animal realizes they have the upper hand on the Franchise upstart right now (at least in my opinion), and perhaps they're trying to leverage it a bit. Think Franchise has faltered badly ever since splitting up Garrett and Casillas and bringing in the new guy (Zach?). Casillas had rough edges that I think Garrett was really polishing in terms of radio acumen, but then they pulled Garret for the new guy and the new guy has all the charisma of a bowl of stale Tostitos. I tried listening to him for a few days and just finally gave up, and Casillas hasn't sounded nearly as interested since (nor has the new guy seemed to be interested in building much chemistry with him, for that matter). While I personally like them as a team better than the Morning Animals, Rohde and Steely have really faltered in the format/content of their show IMHO. Think Franchise was banking on raiding the Animal completely when they started, and then their shot at Traber faltered, they've fallen to backup plans that haven't entirely materialized. Just my opinion, of course; who knows, maybe The Frnachise is winning all the ratings wars..dunno. No radio biz smarts here, just a listener with stupid opinions :) Tydude 07-07-2014, 05:30 PM One of my sources told me that Sam Mayes beat BBJ in Ratings. SoonerDave 07-07-2014, 05:34 PM One of my sources told me that Sam Mayes beat BBJ in Ratings. Well, there ya go. I have nothing against Mayes per se, just that he seems to try a little too hard to be their Traber. I just happen to prefer BBJ, but that's just me. I've listened to Sam's show a few times, nothing wrong with it (other than my Traber comment). Richard at Remax 07-07-2014, 08:52 PM Sam Mayes & CO is the only good thing about the franchise. Everyone else is mediocre at best Klop 07-08-2014, 01:24 AM I only listen to Steely because I can't stand the 98.1 morning offering. Otherwise, I tune in to The Animal. boscorama 07-08-2014, 07:22 PM If Sports Animal is 94.?, they were broadcasting at Billy Sims at Penn/Memorial today. We considered asking to go on the air and say in unison, We're Texas fans. Any questions? Never happened. OKCisOK4me 07-08-2014, 08:36 PM Sports Animal is 98.1. You probably saw 94.7 The Buzz. Sent from my BNTV600 using Tapatalk traxx 07-09-2014, 08:35 AM I know I've said it before, but I am just dumbfounded that anyone still listens to this station. td25er 07-09-2014, 09:02 AM No clue, but I suspect the reality will be far less impressive than the promotion. No radio biz smarts here, just a listener with stupid opinions :) I like Zach better than David Garrett. I'm kind of "meh" on Casillas, but he's better than listening to Traber go on about Danica, Tiger, and Romo EVERY FREAKING DAY. Al is a creepy, creepy dude. Sam Mayes vs BBJ is laughable. Sam is easily the most entertaining local sports radio personality and Colby and Cara help make a great show. BBJ is the worst of the worst and Pat Jones doesn't help any. Of Sound Mind 07-09-2014, 10:10 AM I don't care for Zach either and would pick DG over Zach if forced to... but I actually like Todd (formerly known as "Pork" on Sports Animal) a lot more than either of those two. BorisYeltsin 07-09-2014, 08:21 PM It's either hockey or Stillwater fats SoonerDave 07-10-2014, 06:47 AM I like Zach better than David Garrett. Oh, surely, Zach vs DG is a matter of preference. I agree, Al has become so creepy he's almost impossible to listen to anymore - and while he's always had a bit of a raunchy "edge" to his banter, he's really gone off the deep end here in the last year or two. I think he makes *everyone* on the Animal really uncomfortable when he "goes over the edge." I tend to disagree a bit on Mayes vs BBJ, but I think that's because I prefer BBJ's more polished presentation. I do enjoy Pat Jones' insights and frankness, because he cuts through the garbage on a lot of things. That said, it's fairly apparent when he's talking out of his depth, so its all a balancing act, I suppose. kwhey 07-10-2014, 11:14 AM BBJ is so polished because half of his show is scripted. He is bound to burn a segment "interviewing" a "guest" which nothing but an extended commercial. It is awful. Klop 07-10-2014, 04:32 PM Mark Rogers is my favorite. I'm not so crazy about the Mills guy, although he seems rather informed. He needs to develop a sense of humor. He reminds me of the interrogating attorney who questioned me at a deposition. traxx 07-11-2014, 11:17 AM Mark Rogers is my favorite. Rosei O'Donnel still works for the animal? I thought he quit to go work at a casino years back. SoonerFP 07-14-2014, 05:43 AM One of the promos that they have been airing says something big is coming back to where it Belongs? Does anyone know what that means is someone coming back to the Sports Animal??? Back to the original question, I just heard the rest of the promo this morning, and the big announcement is that NFL is coming back to the Sports Animal. They will be broadcasting two NFL games Sunday afternoon and all the evening games throughout the week. It's up to your opinion as to whether this is "big" or not. Big for them, I'm sure. kwhey 07-14-2014, 10:44 AM Not that big of a deal. They will just interrupt the game with their millions of commercials like they always. Trying to listen to an NFL game on there is maddening. Kinda what I expected - not the NFL specifically, but something that wouldn't be nearly as big as the promotion. ljbab728 07-14-2014, 08:25 PM Not that big of a deal. They will just interrupt the game with their millions of commercials like they always. Trying to listen to an NFL game on there is maddening. I never listened to NFL games there but how is that possible? The radio station may have a lot of commercials but they don't determine when or how long a game is stopped for commercials. kwhey 07-14-2014, 08:30 PM I never listened to NFL games there but how is that possible? The radio station may have a lot of commercials but they don't determine when or how long a game is stopped for commercials. Instead of running commercials in the time allotted, they will play 3 or 4 minutes of commercials and come back two or three plays in the series. I missed a touchdown once because of their glutinous commercial breaks. It is pathetic. ljbab728 07-14-2014, 08:36 PM Instead of running commercials in the time allotted, they will play 3 or 4 minutes of commercials and come back two or three plays in the series. Richard at Remax 07-14-2014, 09:06 PM I've listened to plenty of games on the animal. The radio play by play man always says something along the lines of "now time for station identification" and 10 seconds is filled. Then they go back yo live play. It's Westwood one not the animal doing it. kwhey 07-14-2014, 09:12 PM I've listened to plenty of games on the animal. That is not what I am referring too though. ljbab728 07-14-2014, 09:27 PM I have listened to many OU football games on the radio (not on the Sports Animal) where they have gone to commercials and a play or two had been missed when they came back. SoonerDave 07-16-2014, 11:07 AM I have listened to many OU football games on the radio (not on the Sports Animal) where they have gone to commercials and a play or two had been missed when they came back. Think that's just an occupational hazard of carrying live sports programming. You have so many set breaks, some of those breaks are "network" breaks, some are for local time, and any individual affiliate tries to schedule out their breaks and ads accordingly, but the varying nature of the game makes a perfect match for such things all but impossible. I think they have certain kinds of ads slated for certain spots, and sometimes you end up with a long block of commercials that gets played where only a short break takes place. Not peculiar to OU or the Animal or any other sports broadcast. Happened and happens frequently with Dallas Cowboy broadcasts, regardless of the affiliate. I would venture to guess that it happens less often with baseball, because it is a much more structured game in terms of breaks and intervals, but even then with multiple pitching changes or things of that nature, you could get out of sync. td25er 07-17-2014, 10:24 AM Oh, surely, Zach vs DG is a matter of preference.
