I just bought a new home, and am wanting to build a pergola in the backyard. I'm currently trying to source some nice pieces of cedar for my posts. I've been quoted anywhere between $400-$700 a piece. That's a little more than I am interested in paying. I'm not scared to pay for quality...but, I am looking for the best deal around. Does anyone have any personal experience, or knowledge of any lumber "wholesalers" here in the metro? And no..I'm not talking about Lowe's, Home Depot, Bulilders Hardware, Metro Lumber etc... I am hoping to find a direct source, that would typically sell the wood to those types of places...and buy from them. Any help or info would be appreciated.

And yes.....I can google search to my hearts content...but, I'm looking for real World suggestions.

You might try Forest lumber. I talked to the guy out in the lumber shed area about trim, he said that they are in partnership with some other place in operating a saw mill. They seemed to have the nicest oak trim around. Also there is someone in Guthrie that has a saw mill. I know a carpenter who cuts down trees and takes the logs there for processing. I don't know where or what their name is.

Phoenix Lumber on North Western is amazing. Not sure how much cedar they have, but they have rough cut of so many different varieties. I just got some 6/4 rip sawn oak, and some 4/4 curly maple their that is gorgeous. The can also plane it down as needed. Look for the big blue stack on the east side of western around the Britton area.
