El Guapo’s restaurant is coming to south Tulsa with an opening later this year at the southeast corner of 81st Street and Harvard Avenue.

This will be the second El Guapo’s Cantina in the Tulsa area owned and operated by Tulsa-based McNellie’s Group, which has 12 other properties in Oklahoma.

In July 2007, Tulsa entrepreneur Elliot Nelson opened Tulsa’s first El Guapo’s Cantina at First Street and Elgin Avenue, located just west of James E. McNellie’s Public House.

The downtown site occupies 7,500 square feet in a yellow, three-story building that has a rooftop patio and bar with a view of Tulsa’s skyline.

“Tulsans love El Guapo’s fresh Mexican food, plus its extensive list of margaritas and unique tequilas, so we are excited about bringing the concept to a new area of the community,” Jim O’Connor, vice president of operations, said in a release.

For the south Tulsa site, McNellie’s Group has leased a space at the southeast corner of 81st Street and Harvard Avenue that previously had been The Embers and SoCo.

Construction on the new restaurant will begin immediately, with an opening slated for early fall 2014. Once completed, the new El Guapo’s Cantina will seat about 300 patrons, including a private dining room that can accommodate 100 people. The restaurant also will feature an outdoor patio that seats 75 patrons.
