FighttheGoodFight 06-17-2020, 03:56 PM Homeland is still open in Norman on Lindsey Street, Alameda Street, and Robinson Street right? Yes, all open. The only one that closed was the Main Street one a long time ago. It is now Habitat for Humanity. dankrutka 06-18-2020, 01:46 AM You can't force any company to build something. BLM's demand to put a grocery store there is weird at best. Unless the city built it, the city can't make anyone else do it. They can offer incentives but even with those, Homeland can't seem to make the thing happen. It’s not at all “weird” for a community to want a grocery store in a food desert. This is a political issue cities around the country have addressed. You’re not “forcing” companies to open stores, you’re working with the city to find solutions. No areas should be without a quality grocery store. Canoe 06-18-2020, 07:15 AM It’s not at all “weird” for a community to want a grocery store in a food desert. It is my understanding that the Homeland on the NE will offer the same services as the one on NW 18th, just with a bigger square footage. I expect the price of the items will be higher than super Walmart, but it will offer a better overall experience. shawnw 07-09-2020, 11:59 PM Homeland approved for PPP (not a judgment, just an FYI) 16232 Bill Robertson 07-10-2020, 07:24 AM Homeland is a pretty small company that has struggled the past few years. DowntownMan 07-10-2020, 02:02 PM Homeland is a pretty small company that has struggled the past few years. And while grocery stores were open and had lots of business. They had extra costs and precautions that they had to take. Just managing the supply chain and having to take different routes to keep things in stock cost them more so I have no issue with grocery stores getting PPP Robert_M 08-13-2020, 03:00 PM I’m very glad to hear that. Now they need to get going on Lincoln. Plans are out to bid to General Contractors with a bid date of August 25th. So possibly by the end of September they might get going with construction. Bill Robertson 09-19-2020, 10:57 AM We live near 122nd and Rockwell so we, or I since March, go to that Homeland usually. This last month I’ve been going to a pain management clinic near Edmond and have stopped by the Britton and May store. The May store is a little bigger, prettier, wider aisles and things that some would find more appealing. But I’m a function over form guy. Rockwell simply has more product than May. I was a bit surprised by this. ctchandler 09-19-2020, 08:30 PM Bill, The one at May and Britton was a former Albertson's and every former Albertson's taken over by Homeland is a little nicer facility because Albertson's had different specs for their stores. C. T. Ward 09-19-2020, 10:08 PM ^^^^^ NW 122 & Rockwell was an Albertsons, I used to live right around the corner and it was my go-to grocery store. I still have an Albertsons logo'ed reuseable washable cloth shopping bag I got there, it has to be close to 20 years old. C. T. But May and Britton goes above and beyond other stores that were once Albertsons. Their former manager was a National Retail Grocer of the Year And Manager of the year in two of the industry publications. He actually retired within the past year, so I’m watching and hoping that they keep the same high standards. shawnw 09-24-2020, 01:21 PM Food in a desert: new grocer set to ease east side grocery woes https://oklahoman.com/article/5672331/food-in-a-desert-new-grocer-set-to-ease-east-side-grocery-woes shawnw 09-24-2020, 01:22 PM Eastside OKC Homeland deal rivals complexity of Skirvin restoration https://oklahoman.com/article/5672330/eastside-okc-homeland-deal-rivals-complexity-of-skirvin-restoration?_ga=2.265832335.166981920.1600972048-160514546.1595946266 Pete 09-24-2020, 01:25 PM http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/36lincoln090720a.jpg Bill Robertson 09-24-2020, 01:30 PM http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/36lincoln090720a.jpg If I zoom in as far as the phone will let me I can see my wife's car! If I only have a couple this they're one of the best inventions of mankind. They will come in very handy at this location - there are tons of folks that only have a few things, they don't have an express lane (I believe), and there's not a lot of room between the checkouts and the start of the aisles, so the lines can get pretty long sometimes. The self-checkouts will help the traffic flow in the store greatly. Canoe 09-26-2020, 09:16 PM WOW! If you don't like them don't use them. I go into that location to pick up lunch from the deli and I always get stuck behind the person that takes forever; has to dig out coupons, go over the pricing of everything on their receipt, stands there and gabs forever and long after everything is rung up, start rummaging around for a checkbook. Most stores have scheduled, just a for instance, 1 or 2 cashiers, a stocker or two that can be called to the front for backup and the managers can usually all cashier also. The only thing self check does is save the backups from being called away from their regular tasks. BridgeBurner 09-28-2020, 02:37 PM Thank goodness!! I'm with ya, live pretty much equidistant to the Homeland on Classen and the Walmart on 23rd and Penn and prefer the Homeland but if I need to grab something at 5pm right after work I almost always go to the Walmart just so I can grab a couple things, hit the self-checkout, and leave. The approximately 30,000 square foot store will include an array of fresh offerings such as organic fruits and vegetables, freshly baked breads, a custom butcher shop, fresh, ready-to-eat deli foods, wine and beer by the glass and a drive-through pharmacy. The store will have indoor and outdoor seating near the grab-and-go prepared foods. The outdoor seating will be near service outlets for food trucks. “The combination of the fresh deli, bakery, wine by the glass and casual seating areas allows us to offer an upscale atmosphere,” says Marc Jones, CEO and president of Homeland. “We want our store to serve as a hub for the neighborhood, where workers can grab a prepared lunch and enjoy it on the outdoor patio or where we can host a community gathering with food trucks and entertainment. This store combines several concepts that are growing in popularity with the communities we serve – we’re excited to offer them together in one store.” The groundbreaking will include remarks from Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt, Ward 7 Councilwoman Nikki Nice, Cathy O’Connor from the Alliance for Economic Development for Oklahoma City, private investors and Marc Jones, CEO and president of Homeland. The Thunder Drummers, Thunder Girls and Rumble will welcome and entertain guests. CMSWillowbrook is building the store, which is anticipated to open in fall 2021. The architect is Mark Thomas of Architects Collective and the civil engineer is Johnson & Associates of Oklahoma City. The store will serve several neighborhoods that are currently in a food desert and will share the block with the new MAPS 3 Senior Wellness Center that is planned to be complete in summer 2022. The store and wellness center will be served by a new EMBARK bus shelter. “We are thrilled that an Oklahoma City- based grocery store will serve the neighborhoods in Northeast Oklahoma City,” said O’Connor. “The area has been underserved for far too long. The City of Oklahoma City, Ward 7 City Council members, the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber and the Alliance for Economic Development have been talking to grocers about locating in NE OKC for nearly 25 years. Homeland recognized the need for healthy, full-service grocery options in this area and we are thrilled with their leadership and partnership.” About Homeland Stores Homeland is part of the HAC, Inc. grocery chain headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As of 2020, HAC operates 80 grocery stores in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Georgia. Pete 09-30-2020, 10:50 AM Marc Jones has done a fantastic job after taking over as CEO for what was a terribly-run company. Credit to them for the huge renovation on Classen and now this brand-new store which will not only return a full-service grocer to the NE side, they are going way above and beyond with the design and amenities. Bill Robertson 09-30-2020, 11:08 AM There was a preview of the ground breaking on KFOR this morning. They said that Homeland has acquired an existing space on 23rd and Prospect that they are going to expand and open a new store. This one probably by the end of the year. We'd love to use the 36th/Lincoln one, looks pretty nice, but since we're at 36th/May, it's further away than the 18th store, and we'd have to go through the I-235 intersection and we'd just rather not do that on a regular basis, so we'll keep using 18th/Classen as our regular store (we also stop at Classen Coffee on the way home, so that's a bonus). Seems like they were short on finances, but there's some other odd stuff too. As Pete said, it's fantastic how the new owner/CEO/whatever of Homeland is making it (the company) so much better than it was, nice that they stepped in when needed! Homeland is our weekly store because they upped their game. Bill Robertson 10-03-2020, 07:07 AM Also, if I remember the timeline correctly Homeland was already in the process of or already had purchased the land with plans to move the corp HQ and distribution warehouse over there. Then the decision was made to put a store there and leave the corp complex where it is for now. Pete 10-03-2020, 07:09 AM ^ No, the property has always been owned by the city. And Homeland got a bunch of incentives to put a store in that spot; they just decided they didn't need the new HQ. Bill Robertson 10-03-2020, 07:12 AM It had to be right next to it then. Pete 07-19-2022, 12:28 PM Homeland is planning a small addition to the west side of its store at NW 18th & Classen which will expand their refrigerated/frozen food capacity. There is absolutely no room for the smallest 2 cars you can think of to pass side-by-side, it's ridiculous. Luckily they're not super-busy when we go each week so it's not really a problem for us, but it's still stupid to have any lot striped like that. |
