First of all, sorry if I misspelled Phenomenon. Last night we went out to Lake Hefner to watch the sunset from Stars and Stripes Park. It was a very nice experience that we've enjoyed before. I had my camera with me to take a few shots. I was waiting for that wonderful orange effect on the clouds but the sky was completely clear. I took a few shots anyway as the sun approached the horizon. In so doing, I exhausted the batteries in the camera and didn't have more with me.

I noticed that, only a few minutes later, when the sun was lower on the horizon, it looked like clouds appeared in the far distance. I mentioned to my wife how odd that was and wondered if there was some effect of light, with the sun at that angle, that allowed us to see clouds that were actually already there but otherwise invisible until just that moment. Perhaps some sort of "mirage" effect?

Next time I'll be sure to have extra batteries on hand to try to capture that to which I'm referring.

It not uncommon to see the “Fata Morgana” effect in the OK panhandle and in far western Kansas on the high very dry and flat areas at sunrise…..
You can sometimes see the grain elevators in various small towns that are many miles away and below the earth’s horizon.
