I think I actually prefer it over Vast.

Even after the management/chef change?

Not a personal attack, but proves my arrogance point. If the George thinks it can pay it's bills by nothing but word of mouth and and secret handshakes, cool. However if they shutdown a year from now because they didn't care about the "special occassion" folks, it seems like a stupid way to go.they have been doing great it seems. I am there a lot. This might be one of my top favorite restaurants in OKC.

Had an excellent lunch at The George yesterday! Really great food (roast chicken salad and the salmon salad)! Enjoyed it a lot and will return!

We ate there for my birthday right after it opened last July at it was very good. Steaks were on point, bread selection was cool, and I got a special birthday dessert (deconstructed cheesecake) with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate with chocolate icing by the pastry chef. Very cool night!

The desserts are amazing. We split a carmel corn ice cream concoction that was really good!

Had drinks there last night at the bar. The space was great, the staff was professional and welcoming. Didn't eat (except for a nice shared cheese plate), so can't render an opinion on food. But I'll be back. Hadn't been in the space since Nikz, and forgot how great the view is. Honestly I enjoy it more than the view at Vast, because you are seeing the skyline from a distance.

Also saw Ed Crunk, but didn't say anything to him. Apparently he only exists 7 stories or above, as I've only seen him at O Bar and at George.

I ate there Saturday night. I got a 10oz filet and added the dry rub...steak was pretty good, although not as good as The Ranch. We sat on the South side and it was a much better view than I expected ( I never experienced Nik's). Overall, the salads, entrees, and sides were better than what I expected from the reviews. The mushrooms were on point. Probably won't make my normal rotation unless we want to take in the view, but a nice addition to the City.

P.S. I did think the reno is kind of cheap looking anywhere other than the south side of the space.

The salads may be the strongest point on this menu. (Desserts excluded, because they're on a separate menu, technically)

I had a dumpster fire of an experience there on valentines day. It was as if half do their staff had just left. The worst part was being relegated to a narrow hall by the kitchen door. It's an entirely useless space.

A Brief History of Buildings That Spin (http://gizmodo.com/a-brief-history-of-buildings-that-spin-1625633621)

Thanks for posting this! Fascinating article. I have an affinity for these vintage ideas and enjoy experiencing them... Seattle Space Needle, Tower of the Americas, Dallas Reunion Tower, Cincinnati, Vegas thus far. Rarely is the food exceptional although Wolfgang Puck's in Dallas' Tower was worth the while. Looking forward to seeing Ed Crunk and trying out George even if the floor no longer rotates!

On the other hand, a restaurant of this caliber ought not have any more hiccups on V-day than any normal busy night…In fact probably less so as the average V-Day diner is not going to go through a full course meal.

Not sure a sports animal remote is the right form of advertising for a high end restaurant.

Most people who are frequenting the higher-end establishments don't get money back, and if they do, it's inconsequential to them.

Yeah, I don't think having Traber yelling in your restaurant is a good way to get people to come spend loads of money in your very nice establishment.

What's up with the high turnover of Executive Chef's at The George? I know chefs can bounce around like pinballs but two chefs gone in less than a year?

The menu is far from boring and I was there while Valentine was chef and the food was outstanding.... So why does no one stick there?

We ate there the night before easter and it was fantastic all around. Atmosphere, food, wine selection, view, even the price. However they are struggling to get people in the door. I don't know enough about getting people in the door at a steak house to give advice, but I do know there is plenty of money in a 5 mile radius to support a steakhouse. They'll figure it out hopefully, because that steak and view were top notch.

Several people I know with the Interurban Restaurant Group said Kevin George is kind of difficult to work with. One of my friends was planning to hire Josh Valentine and that was apparently his reason for leaving as well.

This has been my experience here as well - two visits - one at lunch and one at night. Wasn't on any sort of special time like Valentines Day but was weekend night and all was good. Food great + view great + service great = top notch experience. I hope whatever issues they have had with some get squared away. Seems like a nice place for NW OKC to have and is very unique.

Teo9969
04-15-2015, 06:51 PM
Valentine is in Limbo or at least unannounced.

Valentine's departure was imminent as soon as the name changed from The George to The George Prime Steakhouse.

It's not just Valentine/Willis that has left. The George has had 5 FOH managers on staff who have left at various points throughout its existence. The most recent departure went on paid vacation and never came back. At present, I believe there are no Front of House managers except for Kevin George.

He was going to be the head chef at Fedora but that project died due to some anti-smoking legislation coming down the pipe later this year.

gopokes88 posted a positive experience as of the Saturday night before Easter. These issues may have all cropped up since then, but as of that date things sounded fine. I for one hope this place does well we have this as a nice dining option in this part of the city. I have no experience or connection other than as a customer, so no idea about all these staff issues.

After lunch service on Monday there was a disagreement between the new exec chef Matt and the owner. It escalated and concluded with the departure of: the new exec, the sous, and five line cooks. The pastry chef is on vacation and I doubt she'll stay when she gets back. It was imminent.

Had dinner there last night.

Being a Wednesday, it was slow and their skeleton staff seems to be holding it together. I was the only person at the bar and then maybe 5 other tables were occupied.

It was a really cool experience for me because I had not been in that building since the 80's. The view is simply stunning -- more so than I would have expected. And the space is quite nice; simple yet elegant which is probably the best approach given the setting.

We sat at one of the booths on the south side and it was very nice. I'm not a big steak person so I had the house salad and a rigatoni dish that was very flavorful and quite good. I had their grape sorbet (served on a bed of crushed nuts) for dessert and it was excellent.

I really hope they can hang in there. It's beautiful and unique and I personally love that building.

The owner seemed to be working in the kitchen and also helping with table service but was in good spirits as we were the last people to leave around 10:30PM.
