We have talked about it in the general Bricktown thread, but it deserves it's own.

Heard really good things about it.

It's decent. They need to work on their patio to make the place more inviting, but my wife and I have gone twice and like it. They deliver also, in case DD residents are wondering.

It's just nice to have a by-the-slice option in BT (and I like this location better than the Noodles/Falcones/Fuego/Fuzzy's location). Also nice to have a late night option. I've eaten here MANY times now. I will acknowledge that sometimes the pizza sucks when it's been sitting there awhile, so now I always ask how fresh the by-the-slice pizza is and they offer to make a new one if it's not very fresh. It's become enough of a routine, where after I "pick up" (more like escort, since I'm on foot) my daughter from work (she works for the Redhawks) we get her a slice of pizza at Knucks, and they recognize us.

A few notes on this place:

Owned by a local couple (who also own In The Raw)
All crusts are made using OKC-based COOP Aleworks' Native Amber in the process
They have an excellent beer selection
Wings are killer
Pies are on par with Empire. Definitely among the best in OKC
$5 slice/drink lunch deal
They accept KeepItLocalOK cards for a discount/deal
Kids love writing with chalk on the blackboard walls... ..and everything else
So do adults
They really don't HAVE a patio, so not sure what they can do there. They are on a narrow canal sidewalk. They DO have umbrellas, seating, wine casks for tables outside
Captain Norm's dockside (immediately downstairs) is tied to their ordering system, and Knucks delivers to the tables there, so that is really the best "patio" solution, provided you are 21+
They don't think twice about throwing a new pie in if the slices in the rack have been there a while. Just ask.
Lots of pretty daring pizza styles, including a BBQ pulled pork topped with cole slaw and drizzled with BBQ sauce. DAMN.
GREAT local addition to Bricktown. Glad they're down here.

I probably overreached when I said patio. I'll have to try their wings. Thanks for the details, it really is a cool place.

Dog-friendly on the "patio", or whatever you want to call it. We didn't know at the time that you could just order at Captain Norm's. Mini-review here:

I tried this last Wednesday during a long lunch break. I got a single slice of pepperoni (large slices) and a soft drink. I think it was $4.50 or $5. Not bad, but pretty filling. I liked the food and I liked the interior. (Don't know about atmosphere as I was literally the only person in there right when they opened the door at 11am until I left at about 11:25).

I liked it and I'll be sure to be back again.

Ended up trying their pizza last night. I was with a friend at Norms dock side to hear another friend play music. It was almost 11 and I had not ate. The waitress said we can give her our order for pizza and they will deliver it and add it to our bat tab at norms. Great service! Had a large pepperoni it was very good

Went today for lunch with friends. Got there about 12:30pm and there was maybe three other tables with people at them.

We all did slices with a Mean Green salad.

Gotta say right off the bat, the slices and salad were top notch. Probably some of the best slices I've had in OKC and IMO slightly better than Empire and Sauced.

But honestly, that was the only thing that they topped my list for.

First, I'm not a fan of going into Bricktown to simply eat (lunch or dinner) - I find it inconvenient overall.

Second, as for the decor, its okay, but it looked gimmicky, cheap and touristy to me and not at all genuine like Empire does (strictly my opinion and taste).

To me the biggest let down was the customer service. The two people working there were friendly and all, it just wasn't done right IMO.

First off, they have a sign promoting a slice and a soft drink for $5. The cashier even promoted this - so we bought it and added salad - only to then find out (after we paid), that the soda machine wasn't working and our only choice was tea. No refund offered, no alternative, no apology, nada.

When our salads arrived they came with a small container of ranch dressing - which I must say was awesome dressing and tasted homemade. So good in fact we asked for an additional container for each salad - salads are huge (dressing was tiny). The dressing never came, so we had to go to the counter and ask for it again.

The pizza I had was so good (Hoochie Cuchi) that I was dying to try the pepperoni, so I went to the counter and ordered a slice. They had sold the last one so he told me to pay for it and he'd make a fresh one and bring me the slice when it comes out of the oven.

20+ minutes later I realize the pie came out long ago and the cashier simply forgot about me - keep in mind there are only 4 tables with people at them.

The slices we ordered were all very tasty and had lots of texture and fresh looking ingredients. No idea how long they'd sat under the heat lamp, but the flavor was good though the temp was a bit lacking and they didn't offer to run them back through the oven.

The Mean Green salad was great. Good mix of greens and large chunks of veggies.

That all said, while I loved the pizza, I probably would not put this on my regular rotation simply because of the location, atmosphere and lack of customer service - its a shame though, because the quality of the pie was second to none.

Not a typical visit, at least in my own experiences. Did you think about passing your concerns on to the owner?

Considering nobody walked up and said, "Hi, I'm the owner, what did you think?" No, I'm not going to go out of my way to locate or identify an owner.

We got burned by them last night. :( One of their banners on their home page says "Buy a pizza, get one free on Tuesdays with your Keep It Local card", which would seem to cover delivery, pick-up, and eat-in since it doesn't specify anything else, but it doesn't apply to delivery, guy on the phone says it's for pick-up (not sure if it applies to eat-in or not). Wife was on the phone with them from work, had to get it delivered to work, I wasn't on the phone, otherwise they would've gotten a few earfuls of some nasty stuff from me... Very uncool, and given that she said the crust wasn't done enough, it had whole olives instead of sliced (weird), and it just wasn't that good overall, not gonna bother with them again, many more pizza places around here that don't do false advertising and have better pizza than them for us to bother with them again.

Did you share this with a manager at Knuck's?

Wife was at work at night downtown (getting it delivered), and was short-staffed, so she didn't bother. I, however, did send in a contact form, but don't expect them to give a sh*t. As I said, with all the other pizzerias that we actually like, wasn't worth much more than sending in an email and outing them on here. :)

What this means to me is that you are largely assuming the worst of your experience with Knucks rather than affording them any benefit of the doubt. That's your prerogative, of course, and I doubt anyone would care if you ate there again or not. "Outing" them here without giving them a chance to respond however, especially over a matter as simple as a miscommunicated special and a matter of preference, says more about you than Knucks, IMO. Especially since I've had nothing but good to great experiences with them.

dankrutka
11-18-2015, 02:56 PM
I am not passing any judgment as I have been guilty of complaining without contacting a manger before, but it has been pointed out on this board before that it only makes sense to bring the problem to the manager and allow them to respond before blasting them online. The discussions here have helped me realize that that's the right thing to do... thus the question.

TheTravellers
11-18-2015, 03:02 PM
Actually, I should've said "warning" rather than "outing" so nobody else would try to order something that they don't honor. Too many other restaurants we need to try (pizza and otherwise), as well as we have other pizzerias we like to go go, to bother with one place that has been around long enough to have things worked out. And my wife actually said their order-taker was pretty pissy over the phone, so we just don't need to deal with them...

I did bring the problem to them, at least whoever reads their email forms (probably the same pissy order-taker my wife talked to last night, lol)...

Absolutely, I'm an a**hole, anybody that knows me IRL knows that, I have no time for crap like that, many other places that are run properly will get my business, I don't give many places much more than 1 or 2 chances. I do, however, wait for 6 months before going to a restaurant, that gives them enough time to work the kinks out and be running correctly.

That's funny, because I know the owners pretty well, and they absolutely, positively give a sh*t as much as any restaurant people I know. I happened to run into them tonight when I was at Rockford (another of their businesses) and they had been made aware of your post here and were asking me how to get in touch with you to discuss and hopefully make things right (they know I post here).

After reading this, it doesn't sound like they had seen any communication from you directly, so assuming you are telling the truth about sending it (and why wouldn't you be) it's possible that their contact form isn't working right. If you want to PM your e-mail address or other contact info to me, I will be happy to forward it to them.

But, for the record I will again say, I don't know too many people who I know in the industry (and I know a LOT of them) who are more honestly concerned with making folks happy.

My wife and I stopped by last night before the Thunder game. First time for either of us. I had heard great things about the food, and it did not disappoint. The sriracha wings were awesome and so was our pizza that we built, but the best part was $4 F5 pints! The only issue we had was that they somehow seemed understaffed, despite the fact that we were the only people there. While both people working were very friendly and seemed to be working their tails off, there must of been a lot of to go orders, because two people could not keep up with the phones, making pizzas, and servicing customers at the counter. After our long wait at the counter to order, our food arrived very quickly and as I mentioned, we really enjoyed it.

Overall, we were glad we stopped by and will definitely be back.

Not a badge of honor, it's just pretty much the truth, I just don't have much tolerance for things that should be done right (yes, there are circumstances that may make it impossible to do things right sometimes, but if you say "buy one get one free on Tuesdays with a Keep It Local card" without a * next to it with the terms of that offer, then I should get 1 pizza free, that's all there is to it, but they're working on that part now. :) )

Agreed. Went in a week or so ago around 1 and it smelled like a port-o-let. Was going to get a slice to go anyway, but they sold the last 2 to the couple in front of me. It was also really hot and the cashier/server was literally dripping sweat. Not a good look.

The location sucks, let's be honest. The canal is a pretty bad spot for a 'grab n go' style pizza by the slice place. your main demographic is drunk people flooding out of bars @ 2am. Knucks had literally zero marketing pushed onto these people (who would be half a block away on Sheridan). All they had to do was pay a guy $20 to hand out promos to the crowds and point them in the direction of the canal.

I have been out numerous times with people and suggest getting pizza after the bars, and literally no one knew the place existed. Especially as an after 2am option.
