Here is the Oak & Ore layout.
Of note: Very long bar and big communal tables. Also, no obvious patio but I suppose that could come later.

gopokes88 09-12-2014, 01:52 PM Bar is almost done. Two coolers. One at cellar temperature one at 40. Plus a 600 sq foot patio in the back. Shooting for early November. 9136913991379138
Thanks for those!
Their plans didn't show a patio but very glad to see there will be one.
Wonder if they may put some tables out front as well, ala Empire? The share the same, ultra-wide sidewalk.

Patio is in the back actually. (Last picture, hasn't been poured yet)

Right, I was just wondering if they might put tables out front as well. You'd think Roxy's (next door) would want some as well.

I'm not sure actually. Sorry I misread your post.

Mr. Cotter 10-13-2014, 10:10 AM Wow. The Plaza continues to impress me. I'm really excited about this.
The menu looks great, and if they hit the sweet spot with pricing, this will be in my regular rotation.
Chadanth 10-13-2014, 10:55 AM Met one of the owners briefly at the Plaza Festival. He seemed to have a lot of enthusiasm and a good concept of how to bring it all together. My only disappointment is that it's not within walking distance of my house....
Urbanized 10-13-2014, 12:26 PM Oh, wow. LOVE that subway tile.
bchris02 10-13-2014, 07:03 PM Really looking forward to this. The plaza district is really starting to come into its own. I wonder how similar this will be to the Barrel on Western? It looks like they are going to have quite a bit more beer on tap.

ljbab728 11-12-2014, 11:02 PM New Oklahoma City bar aims for sophisticated beer service | News OK (http://newsok.com/new-oklahoma-city-bar-aims-for-sophisticated-beer-service/article/5366216)
They won’t serve ice-cold beer in standard pint glasses at Oak & Ore.
Instead, patrons at the soon-to-open Plaza District craft beer bar should expect sculpted stemware, and beer served at varying temperatures and carbonation levels.
Andrews, who eyes an early December opening for the bar, 1732 NW 16, has installed a high-end system including 36 stainless steel taps. Servers will be able to pour beer at four different temperatures and will have the ability to adjust the carbonation level of certain beers.
A Belgian-style farmhouse ale, for example, should be served at a warmer temperature than a light American lager. And such a beer is best enjoyed in a rounder, specialty glass as opposed to the traditional pint glass.
Andrews said servers will receive “extensive training on craft beer and proper service.”

This reminds me of when I was in Skinny Slims in Edmond this past summer. I was sitting there enjoying a Pilsner and watching whatever game was on when this dude and chick came in asked for a Coors Light and a Bud. I chuckled to myself when the bartender said they didn't serve either one of those. What kind of bar did they think they'd walked into? Nothing about that place says you can buy local grocery store fare beer there.

Sat next to Elliot Nelson the night he opened McNellies in OKC (by happenstance). He remarked to us that they only carried the cheap crap (in cans) because too many people didn't know any better and it happened to bring the most profit margin. I think he was hoping it was a gateway to getting people to drink better beer...

Oak and Ore will have a few gateway beers like Shiner, Blue Moon, etc. Something familiar for a customer to try before they dive into the craft world. Smart.
Teo9969 11-20-2014, 01:55 PM We live in a day and age where you can easily get away without having any of the colossal brews (Bud, Coors, Michelob, Miller) in your restaurant. Too many people know the breweries like Sam Adams, Boulevard, etc. and like imports like Franziskaner, Modelo, Guiness, and Heineken.

Most of the places I go don't have that stuff on tap period. I would personally rather drink water than Bud Light.
I have a good friend in OKC who is very educated, accomplished and traveled and since he lives in suburbia, I always drag him to the newer places and he *always* orders a Coors Light. Amazingly, most places serve it so this habit gets reinforced.
At some point I need to have a long talk with him. I don't care if he embarrasses himself but I worry about my own rep just being with him! :)

As a "non-intoxicating alcoholic product" (which is what 3.2% beer is classified as amazingly enough) they are allowed to pay slotting fees.

Water's great. I drink it daily. Bud Light on the other hand, not so good.
All that being said, I eagerly await the opening of Oak & Ore.
wsucougz 11-20-2014, 03:38 PM It's good to see OKC is turning out the judgemental craft beer drinker now. That is progress. "Enjoying a Pilsner." I love it.

I consider 3.2 non-intoxicating.
Several weeks ago I got off work late, and did not have time to go to the liquor store before a party. I was forced to drop in to the gas station and picked up a 12 pack of 3.2% Miller for BYOB.
I drank at least 7 or 8 cans, and did not even feel a slight blur. However, a can of F5 does the trick. Two or three F5's knocks me over. I LOL when people say they can't get the good stuff in OKC. They literally only by real beer when they make a trip to Dallas. We have liquor stores here, go to the gas station for a bag of ice and your full strength beer will be nice and cold by the time you get home.

Although you may not feel a buzz, I have represented many of people for driving under the influence of "non-intoxicating" 3.2 beer. The .08 limit is so low that most people feel fine at .08 BAC. Although you didn't say you were driving and no reason to believe you were, just a reminder to be safe out there so you avoid a DUI
kevinpate 11-24-2014, 06:01 AM I gotta agree with Jeepokc on this one.
Buzzed or not, several cans of 3.2 in a short time window will very likely trip the limit should one be stopped if driving. And of course there are a variety of other charges awaiting for those folk whose are able to slide in below the trip point but manage to inspire an officer to whip out bracelets.
Even charges that are ultimately beat back carry a time, inconvenience and expense headache treats in the hey, thanks for playing offcial officer swag bag,

Are they even going to sell Budweiser? Usually places like this don't.

If you ever have to get 3.2 beer, get one of the new COOP low-point beers. I tried Briefcase Brown recently myself and not only did it taste good, it gave me more of a buzz than what I usually expect from 3.2 products.
The problem with most low-point beers is the macro-brewers simply add water to their regular product to sell it in Oklahoma, completely ruining the beer. In actual alcohol content the difference isn't as big as many assume.
That is correct. There is little difference between a 3.2 beer here and a 6.0 beer in Texas. It may taste awful but the alcohol difference is negligible. If you think you get drunk faster, you've likely fooled yourself.
catch22 12-07-2014, 02:07 PM Are they even going to sell Budweiser? Usually places like this don't.
Lol. I was at Saints last night, some guys came in and were standing next to my barstool talking amongst themselves about what to order. "They don't serve regular beer here, I asked for a Bud Light Ultra and she said they don't serve it." They eventually ordered Vodka Waters. Lame O's.

What the heck is regular beer? I assume they were talking about American Lagers...

Nope, all craft beers. There will be some Coop stuff to "ease" people unfamiliar with craft beers into it. I don't know much about craft beer either - pretty much a Sam Adams and Guinness guy - but looking forward to trying it out.

This is being painted by fellow Plaza Shop Owner, Dylan Bradway! It is always nice to see this community of businesses work together!
Joe Kimball 12-12-2014, 12:28 PM I, as well, got a great impression of the place during the Plaza Festival. They had as much of an open house as they could while it was going up, and invited people in to check the interior and even the quality of the wood to be used for the bartop -- amazingly tight-grained, old-growth floorboards from boxcars.
I look forward to this place!

Barkeep, can I get a Bud Light Ultra?
Haha... I actually met up with the Coors Light drinking friend over the weekend and his new fiance has coached him into not ordering that any more.
And thank goodness for that as we were in a cool place in Santa Monica, although there was no way in hell they carried anything like that anyway.

Chadanth 12-19-2014, 09:52 PM I'm going tonight, I'll do a review.
Ok, just got home. First off, the menu was a bit limited, and the place isn't finished, as far as decor. Otherwise, very impressed.
The beer list is great, and pretty diverse. Something for everyone. They also had a mixed drink list and a selection of scotches and bourbons. We went with beer. They rinse every glass before they pour, each beer is served in the appropriate glass, and they're very quick with getting you a sample before a full pour. Great bar service.
We had a cheese plate, and it was very good. Good quality cheeses, sufficiently large for two, with honey and olive tapenade. We really enjoyed it. I also had a cappicola sand which, which is made open faced. Very tasty, generous with the toppings, and served with a lettuce wedge and a mix of plantain and potato chips.
Chatted with the owner for a minute, he's a very friendly guy, and seems to have a great plan for the place. I don't doubt it's going to be a hit. I liked his emphasis on communal tables, and though they will have tv's he said they won't be on aside from OU/OSU/Thunder games. He wants a more social atmosphere, and I think it lends itself to it.
TL;DR: good beer, good food, dig it.
^
Thanks so much for the review.
Love the idea of not having the TV's on very often. I wish more places would follow suit.

The other night when I was at Fassler Hall I was amazed at how many people I saw drinking Miller Lite. They serve Miller Lite in the can as opposed to the real beer which they serve either in half liter or full liter mugs, so you can tell who is drinking it. I think that's a good way to politely push people to branch out.
As for Oak and Ore, I definitely cannot wait to try it out.
LocoAko 12-20-2014, 04:19 PM I may have missed this, but when is the official opening for Oak and Ore? Had a few friends go last night and they loved it. Couldn't stop raving about it.
