View Full Version : Just wanted to share some floral photos I've taken...
SoonerDave 06-07-2014, 01:16 PM Given the would-be photographer in me, and now discovering the emerging gardener (first year to plant vegetables and a couple of rose bushes), I took to combining the two and snapped a couple of pictures of my better successes. I think they look pretty decent so far :) Hope you like 'em.
Given that I really have no green thumb whatsoever, it kinda reminds me that we might *plant* the flowers, but God is the One who grows them :)

PennyQuilts 06-07-2014, 08:06 PM These are great! The recent weather has sure been cooperative.
Just the facts 06-07-2014, 10:01 PM SoonerDave, I think you are on the right track - pick a subject and get really good at photographing it. If you get 20 to 30 good pictures you should find a gallery around town to display them and hopefully sell 1 or 2. You can at least make enough to self-fund the hobby.
RadicalModerate 06-07-2014, 10:44 PM A few years ago, (geez . . . maybe even a couple of decades ago . . . at this point in time), I shared a Communion Meditation/Homily/Illustration/whatever with a small branch of The Church family.
The Theme: "Photography: Light-Writing". . . (sub ref: capturing a moment in time)
This thread proves my point. Back then and Right Now. Thank You.
(yet, even those simple words are subject to misinterpretation . . . =)
(on account of they ain't a foto . . . =)
Nice Observational Shots, Amigo.
(no kidding, no joke, no snark. for real.)
And, thanks for the reminder . . . =)
(edited to add: and 2 you dennis too. =)

SoonerDave...Keep sharing! I have some more I am going to put up on here in a few moments. In a few days I hope to share some pics like the one's I posted earlier...from the same "bud."
RadicalModerate 06-08-2014, 10:50 AM One of the first pictures I attempted to take with my first digital camera. It's a bit blurry.
https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/t1.0-9/10441089_701175236596411_7370022695686317998_n.jpg
A little underexposed . . .

Still trying to figure out how to use the camera . . . and holding it very still on closeups . . .

Getting a little better . . .

Dennis Heaton 06-08-2014, 10:54 AM Thanks for saying straight up that they are a "bit blurry"...I was about to reach into my cabinet for my AR KLEEN Eye Lens Cleaner. :)
RadicalModerate 06-08-2014, 10:59 AM Those are, as I said, from my first--and only--digital camera. Three pics, like the first one, filled up the internal memory on the camera and I had to insert the little memory card. It is now almost full. About 2000 pictures. Not all of flowers. =)
Now I need to get a card for my antique flip phone. There are about 80 pics on it with no way to transfer to the computer without first transferring them to a card. =)

I JUST learned about that this past week! I was trying to see if I could transfer some text messages from my "lifeline" phone to Word. Everything was going along just fine when I got a pop-up that said something along the lines of..."Memory Card Not Detected." However, I did discover I can send them to my e-mail, which might take a couple of weeks. Whew!

Dandy idea, JTF, nice of you to even suggest they're good enough to give the idea a try! Thank you!

Just the facts 06-09-2014, 07:43 AM I don't have many pictures of flowers but here are a couple I took about 7 years ago.

RadicalModerate 06-09-2014, 10:01 AM Those are superb, J. The one with the butterfly is particularly striking.
(Obviously, you mastered the art of waiting for the camera to adjust itself for a closeup and the skill of holding it very, very still while clicking the shutter. I'm getting there, but . . . =)
Most of the pictures on my camera are "cooking related" . . .
(which, of course, has nothing to do with the theme of this thread)

Then start one, RM. Would love to see some of your "culinary creations" from the dark side of the moon. :)
RadicalModerate 06-09-2014, 10:59 AM Check out the DIY Dinners thread . . .
You'll find it buried somewhere in the link at the top of the Restaurants and Bars section.
Cooking and Photography are my two hobbies.
And "writing" . . . like, in here. =)
So, you should be able to discern that I don't take my hobbies seriously.
Dang. That reminds me: I need to go out on the patio and take a few shots of The Herb Garden.
(I'm using a couple of the selections from it for the Flat Pork Pie I'm making for supper, tonight. =)
(including some "Wild Lettuce"-- that my wife harvested yesterday, in the Coleslaw Deluxo, on the side.)
RadicalModerate 06-09-2014, 11:28 AM Not exactly Floral . . . sorry.

Dennis Heaton 06-14-2014, 11:30 PM I was hoping to take a pic of this flower everyday at the same time, but was OBE (overcome by events). Then, as I was thinning out the leaves, I accidently snipped the Stem. As you can see, I need to work on my scene selection options. Anyways, I hope you enjoy these...

RadicalModerate 06-15-2014, 01:14 AM Well done, PhotoWise, Old Man. =)
(or should that be Bro?)
Nah . . .
"Bro" is a term
much overused.
i took
only two
photographs
of my newborn grandson
two days ago
as compared
to the roll of film
that i burned through
about thirty years ago
involving the birth
of his mom
still life is good
it gives us another
opportunity or chance
to reflect or reject
the Grace of God.
Dennis Heaton 06-18-2014, 07:29 AM It was a short lived lil Flower...but it was a Happy Flower!

Just the facts 06-18-2014, 07:44 AM This is from Monroe, LA. It is one of my favorites because it is NOT a black and white photo. That was the actual color of the trees and sky.

Here is one of my favorite black and whites. It is the Main St bridge in downtown Jax.

Oddly enough - I did. I am giving some serious consideration to putting it on a large canvas.
On edit - In fact, I just decided to do it. I have $370 Uber dollars burning a hole in my pocket. :)
RadicalModerate 06-19-2014, 09:27 AM Both pictures are excellent. Thank you.
Here's one from last spring, on an overcast day, when the crabapple tree was in full bloom.

Dennis Heaton 06-21-2014, 03:46 PM RM...Yesterday morning, I was traveling up Penn, between NW 50th and NW 63rd, and the trees in the area were absolutely beautiful. I saw one tree I have been trying to find online this afternoon. I think I am gonna have to go take a couple pics and post it on here. "Someone" will know what it is.
