Adult retailer Hustler Hollywood, owned by Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt, will open its first store in the region in Oklahoma City at 500 S Meridian Ave.
I wonder if the City is paying them millions in incentives??
okclee 06-05-2014, 12:16 PM Bummer, I thought this was going in at The Edge in midtown.
Chaulk another retail win for Okc vs Tulsa.
Jeepnokc 06-05-2014, 12:24 PM What building is this going into? I can't picture what is at 500 S. meridian
Zuplar 06-05-2014, 12:33 PM Some old Asian Restaurant south of Louies.
Jeepnokc 06-05-2014, 12:33 PM I googled the location and looks like they may be going into the old Steak and Ale building
Dustin 06-05-2014, 12:44 PM What an awful location.
shawnw 06-05-2014, 12:50 PM You'd think they'd put one next to the best performing Christie's.
adaniel 06-05-2014, 12:54 PM What an awful location.
I guess they could always put it in Bricktown.
Nothing like coming back with your family from a Thunder game and walking past windows with gag balls, whips, chains, and rubber d**** on display.
bchris02 06-05-2014, 12:57 PM This should do very well here in this "family values" town.
Jeepnokc 06-05-2014, 01:24 PM What an awful location.
I think it is an awful location as far as what people see driving by as far as city image as it is a very visible location. From the aspect of the store, it is a great location right in the middle of all the hotels on meridian and high visibility from I40. Make it easy for the tourist to find you as the locals will know the location. I am speculating that like Bass pro and Cabala's...it is a destination retailer.

You seem to have such a hard time containing your contempt for this town.

It was sarcasm.

Not too far from some of the window clings RokBar and Social used to throw out there.
kevinpate 06-05-2014, 03:00 PM A new version of shock and awe for some no doubt.
Seems fairly well planned. Nothing says welcome to the new sex toy shoppe to the neighborhood like offering up demos and providing tacos.

I took notice that Big Truck tacos was going to be there but left it alone as there are so many bad jokes that could be made. I don't know though if one truck can handle the crowd. Maybe they need the O.M. WienerMobile there also.

If it looks anything like this though, then awesome!

+1
shawnw 06-05-2014, 03:36 PM If it doesn't already look like that, I'm not sure it can in a week when they're planning to open...

Oh I remember those.
One time I was taking my two younger cousins to a game at the Ballpark and we walked by what was then Rokbar. They were advertising a special appearance from some B-List porn star...I forgot her name but considering I am posting this from my work computer I probably shouldn't google it. On a huge window poster it was her straddling some guy in a very provacative manner and basically nude with only large patsies covering her coochie and boobs. Needless to say my then preteen cousins instantly noticed it. Now I am no prude, but I had a very awkward conversation nearly half the baseball game, and my aunt wasn't too happy with me thinking that I was exposing them to smut. FWIW I was not too upset when that place closed.
zookeeper 06-05-2014, 05:40 PM Big League City!
Bass Pro - check
NBA - check
Whole Foods - check
Cabela's - check
Hustler Hollywood - check

But I thought Tulsa (and now Albuquerque, Birmingham and Memphis) got everything first?? ;)

We went to a Barons game a few years ago and my son was probably 8-9. We went to eat before the game in Bricktown and we were walking down the canal past Coyote Ugly where the bar is set down from the entry way. There were some girls dancing on the bar which you could see walking by. One of the first things he told momma when we got home was that he went to a place where the girls were dancing on the bar. I had some explaining to do.
BBatesokc 06-05-2014, 08:32 PM I actually got a call from a reporter today wanting to know if I wanted to comment on this opening. As if I'd be up in arms over it.
Told them that's not my thing to get upset about and they'd probably be fairly hard pressed to find anyone genuinely protesting the opening - then it hit me..... the Burbridge Foundation and all their ads they used to run about how porn magazines and movies could turn your children into serial killers. So I directed them to Bobby Burbridge-Lane. Maybe she'll put on her best clown makeup and make a statement.
I-40 and Meridian is really going down hill in a few spots. Several of the older hotels are now on par with those sleaze buckets near S. I-35 and SE 36th-SE53rd.

Big Truck shouldn't be there, these guys should, what a missed opportunity: Fuzzy's Taco Shop (http://www.fuzzystacoshop.com/)

It looks a lot more "shady" than that picture. Looks like something you would find in downtown Vegas. The old part of Vegas. lol
PennyQuilts 06-05-2014, 10:01 PM Ugh.
I went into the store on Sunset Boulevard in 2001. It really felt and looked like a Gap store.

No pun intended.......
Dustin 06-06-2014, 08:55 AM The KFOR report on this last night made me cringe so hard. Why do they feel the need to interview the most backward, redneck, toothless individuals.
Urbanized 06-06-2014, 09:06 AM Makes for good TV. They're hoping their report goes viral a la Sweet Brown.
Bellaboo 06-06-2014, 09:13 AM The KFOR report on this last night made me cringe so hard. Why do they feel the need to interview the most backward, redneck, toothless individuals.
Because those people gravitate to the cameras. lol
Urbanized 06-06-2014, 09:26 AM Also true.

Law of averages? j/k.
Soonerman 06-06-2014, 10:20 AM Geez, If those people don't like it, Don't shop there. It's that simple.
soonerguru 06-06-2014, 10:34 AM I've asked why so many illiterate people are interviewed, and many TV reporters have told me that most well-spoken people want to be nowhere near a camera when they're on a story.

That's true. Also the more intelligent people likely have important jobs or titles, and it's best not to add opinion, speculation, or conjecture to a story, even if it is not work related. You don't want the potential to have confusion over personal opinion being quoted as a company position.

Ain't nobody got taco for that.
Easy180 06-06-2014, 11:44 AM Saw that in addition to Big Truck there will be product demonstrations...alrighty!!

Out by Quail Springs Mall? Just down the road from all those Churches????? Uh-Oh!!!!!

Nope, down on Meridian and I-40. Would be funny to see it there, though, maybe Larry can expand...
jerrywall 06-06-2014, 04:20 PM What an awful location.
Probably one of the few areas they could find that's more than 500 feet from a school or church.
kevinpate 06-06-2014, 06:54 PM Out by Quail Springs Mall? Just down the road from all those Churches????? Uh-Oh!!!!!
Rumor has it there be church folk and non-church folk alike standing in line whenever Harbor Freight is having a buy any 1 item, get 24 Double A batteries free.
Rumor also has it some of those folk leave with only a roll of duct tape and their stash of batteries.
Which probably leads to still more rumors.

kevinpate 06-29-2014, 10:44 AM I saw the clip on 5.
Seems difficult to blame the content of those window displays, especially that distance from the roadway, for someone's inattention.
Perhaps it was more related to what the person was staring and hoping to catch a glimpse of than what was actually visible.
But if the drivers (seems there have been a few fender whackings in the area) are really that distracted by a window display, I hope I am never on the road near one of them when they pass a slightly titillating or more salacious billboard, or a pretty person on a motorcycle.

Urbanized 06-29-2014, 12:40 PM I've seen racier mannequin displays at Dillard's. The excuse and the story are both weaksauce.

Just the facts 06-29-2014, 09:54 PM Just more proof that this store should have been located in a pedestrian-oriented area. That way all the 'accidents' would have a happy ending. :)
Anyhow, here is actual video of the accident so you can decide for yourself.
