Released:Apr 24, 2017
MEDIA RELEASE
(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / April 24, 2017) – The City of Stillwater and Oklahoma State University are pleased to announce that starting Aug. 22, 2017, American Airlines will resume its non-summer commercial flight schedule from Stillwater Regional Airport. This schedule features an early morning departure time of approximately 7 a.m. to DFW and a late evening arrival time in Stillwater.
City Manager Norman McNickle and OSU President Burns Hargis are grateful that American Airlines addressed the community’s concerns about flight times.
McNickle said, “Commercial flight from Stillwater Regional Airport has been a game changer for our business community and for the University. We appreciate the support we received from Transportation Secretary Gary Ridley as the airport continues to develop.”
Hargis agreed, “You can see how important this service has become to Stillwater and to the University since it began last August. Our elected officials also understand this. Governor Mary Fallin, Senator James Inhofe and Congressman Frank Lucas have been invested in the Airport from the beginning and have continued to show their support for its success.”
Airport Director Gary Johnson said that bookings since August had been well above what had been projected. “We discovered that the early flight time was part of that success, and our customers let us know how much that time was a major factor in choosing to fly from Stillwater.”
Customers took to social media to express how much they appreciated the early flight time. Many said they loved flying from Stillwater because of the ease of meeting connecting flights from DFW.
Mayor Gina J. Noble said, “I love that so many residents have benefited from commercial flight out of our airport. It’s so easy when you can make your connecting flight. We are grateful that American Airlines understands this and continues to serve our community.”
“We have had a wonderful experience working with our partner American Airlines, and we look forward to our future successes together,” Johnson said. “If you have not flown out of Stillwater yet, now is a great time to do so.”
Stillwater Regional Airport offers two direct American Airlines flights both to and from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) every day. The airport features free parking, shorter security lines and competitive rates.
For a full flight schedule or to book a flight from Stillwater Regional Airport, go to http://aa.com and use airport code SWO. American has announced a summer flight schedule that starts June 4 and will run through Aug. 21.

gopokes88 07-11-2017, 09:57 PM Booked my first flight out of Stillwater. Living in north Edmond, Stillwater is only an extra 10 mins. Plus there is less traffic better early morning flight to Dallas 650am versus 5am and free parking. I'm flying to Austin for the osu Texas game, so this flight works extremely well versus okc. In the future whenever I'm flying American and have to connect through Dallas (most of the time) I'm going to check Stillwater as well as okc.

If the Stillwater flight is cancelled there's a huge chance of a much more major hassle to get rebooked on a later flight than if your OKC flight is cancelled. And it's not like the OKC airport is hard to get to, park at, or go through security at. There is virtually no Plan B when flying out of Stillwater; when flying out of OKC there is a Plan B, C, D, E.....

Highly doubt the 650am flight gets cancelled as the plane is already there from the night before but ok I guess.

brianinok 07-12-2017, 10:54 AM Highly doubt the 650am flight gets cancelled as the plane is already there from the night before but ok I guess.Unless the flight doesn't come in from the night before. Or there's a flight crew problem on the ONE flight crew in Stillwater. Or the plane has serious mechanical issues.

But it does come in the night before, that's like all that plane does is fly back forth from dfw. And I've been totally hosed in okc enough (most recently last weekend) it's really not that big of a risk. Plus I'm flying to Austin, so all I'd have to do is rebook through okc. Appreciate the concern but I'm a grown man perfectly capable of making decisions.
jerrywall 07-12-2017, 11:12 AM Out of curiosity, every time I've checked the tickets appeared to be about $50 more expensive. Does that vary? I guess the only way I'd save money is on a longer trip where I save on parking, if it doesn't.

Or there is a problem at the destination airport that prevents the fight from landing there.

That’s great news!
We have taken on several people from American’s network planning team, I would love to see United try Lawton and Stillwater to denver.
We’ve been aggressive in connecting small cities to denver so there is an overall strategy in place. I’m not holding my breath but it would be good for western connections out of either of those airports.

American is going to start paying rent and takeoff landing fees.

Sounds like service is maturing. American’s commitment to the lease indicates that it is meeting their expectations and metrics. It’s great to see new markets mature.
gopokes88 09-19-2022, 10:24 PM Looks like service expansion is in the cards. Chicago or Denver?

Looks like it could be an upgrade to CRJ-700s.
Bunty 09-22-2022, 12:35 AM I'm not surprised some kind of upgrade is coming. The parking lot at the Stillwater Airport is always full or nearly so. The overflow has to park in lot for the ball field. Not just Stillwater, but all of north central Oklahoma needs it.
gopokes88 09-25-2022, 08:22 PM CRJ-700 confirmed.
But also in the PR, construction on a new 32,000 sq ft terminal slated to begin in 2024

As an Oklahoman...I am very excited for the airport to be doing well and for Stillwater. As an OKC resident that flies 125k plus mile per year and would like more routes...hate to see the numbers taken away from OKC though. Love the new DL OKC-LGA. I have flown it twice in the last 6 months including this last week.

Have those OKC-LGA flights been pretty full?
Jeepnokc 11-07-2022, 08:12 AM Have those OKC-LGA flights been pretty full?
No. They appeared about 80% full We were delayed from 4 ish departure time to almost 9 pm on Friday return so others may have rerouted to OKC. The times are great thoug as you get to OKC noonish and leave in the evening so can get a full weekend in. I'm thinking of taking the missus back up to go to the Christmas Market. As Stillwater residents will see...having more non stops opens up a lot of weekend trip ideas.

Celebrator 10-01-2023, 11:12 PM That's a nice up-gauge. Really hope they can manage to get an ORD flight at some point.

ORD on AA or DEN on UA

Burn Hargis said it publicly he wanted ORD as the second city. I would imagine they have a decent shot once the new terminal is up and going.

Stillwater and all of north central Oklahoma needs to grow faster to get more air service. The new magnet factory in Stillwater to employ 100 people isn't much to go on in that direction, but is better than nothing. Fortunately, most of the smaller towns in north central Oklahoma have at least been holding on to their population levels since 2020.
warreng88 10-06-2023, 11:45 AM I am curious how many people travel for cheaper flights and what the cut off is? We, almost exclusively fly out of OKC, but have driven to Dallas (Love and DFW) to fly because the savings was substantial enough (time, cost of driving, maybe hotel, parking, etc) that we could do it. So if a flight to NYC from OKC was $500 per person (not saying it is) with a connection and a flight from Love was direct and $200 per person, we would consider it. I wonder how much that is taken into account in STL when thinking OKC and Tulsa are about an hour away?

STL (St. Louis, MO) is not an hour from OKC and Tulsa. I know what you meant, just teasing. The code at Stillwater is SWO.

Doubt very many if any are driving from OKC and Tulsa to get on an AA flight to DFW from Stillwater. Maybe towns in the surrounding counties like Perkins, Ponca City, Pawnee, etc Now if there was a Chicago or Denver flight that may pull some more people

We have driven to Tulsa as well as Wichita for flights. It is rare and has been when the entire family of five were going so the savings was X5 which made it worthwhile. If the flight was several hundred dollars cheaper....would make the drive worth it assuming Stillwater has free parking. I don't look at Stillwater as we fly Delta 95% of the time but that may be changing with the new changes to their loyalty program.
scottk 10-08-2023, 08:33 PM We have driven to Wichita and Dallas Love before for flights on Southwest that have been significantly cheaper for the same dates that OKC was offering. We don't fly American nearly as much, but for fun sometimes I will price out Lawton and Stillwater just to see if there is a "flash" price drop on a destination. Wichita is definitely easier to get to and closer by about an hour.
The free parking at SWO can add up in savings too for longer trips especially if you are flying international or a longer business trip and having to go through DFW anyways.

Stillwater Airport still has free parking.
