The only thing that might keep him from succeeding in that role (assuming good writing/directing) is the baggage he has from fluffier, friendly roles and some flops in the past. I must admit my initial reaction was "wha...?" But anybody who doubts his acting chops and ability to play a tortured tough guy hasn't seen The Town.

It depends on the script. I don't believe this movie would flop because of Ben Affleck.

David Goyer is writing it. He wrote all the Christian Bale Batman movies, all the Blade movies and others.
