Pretty great. My friends from Knuck's Wheelhouse made a killing. Beer was flowing. The Ghana dudes got to cheer a goal, yet it still worked out for the USA. I wasn't planning on being there, so had the misfortune to wear a (Triumph) T-shirt with a Union Jack on the front. Got some ribbing on that. The organizers are looking into another TV solution for the next game. NegativeCreep 06-17-2014, 10:07 PM I was there too. Pretty great. My friends from Knuck's Pizza made a killing. Would definitely order from them if it wasn't so far from my house. Had an amazing time at the game. I stood towards the back of the crowd, and I didn't find it any more difficult to see than if I was at some place like Buffalo Wild Wings. Only thing I had trouble seeing was the time. Will probably be there for at least the first half of the game on Sunday, but will probably head to the Speakeasy to catch the remainder and then across the street to the Energy game. Yea, though there was some confusion among the people standing with me about how much extra time had been added. When I went to see Liverpool and Man U play at Anfield in the late 90's, they didn't even have a scoreboard. They had a large analog clock at each end that just showed the time of day. I couldn't believe it and in some ways, still can't. This was the 90's not the 20's. But fans obviously were used to keeping game time on a regular clock and probably felt anyone that needed to consult a board for the score wasn't paying xlose enough attention. At one point in the game, Man U scored a goal at the far end from where we were sitting. At least I think they did, because it just turned very quiet and the ManX players were cavorting and I desperately wanted just to see confirmation on a scoreboard, because I certainly didn't want to ask my Liverpool-loving friends at that point. onthestrip 06-18-2014, 10:52 AM any way myriad gardens would show a game on the lawn? might be pretty neato Unfortunately, with it being during day time, Im not sure how you could show a game on a projection screen. Or, they could just charge a small amount in order to exert some control. I wonder if this idea was even considered? Other cities in the U.S. (and around the world) are organizing big public watch parties and here we have this awesome, publicly funded jumbotron that fronts an area that is frequently closed for similar purposes, and we just leave everything to the bars. There would still be time to organize something at the Peake if the U.S. advances. OKCretro 06-18-2014, 11:29 AM not to hijack the thread but its my understanding that thunder alley was closed not because of crowd control but because we did not have permission from the league. I remember Mick saying they were going to have to close it down anyways since it was getting too big (that's what she said) and this was just a more logical thing to blame it on. If I go 4 for 4, I'll be just ecstatic. Pete 06-18-2014, 05:29 PM Wowee about Spain... They weren't even close in the two matches they played and deserve to be sent home (after a meaningless match with the Socceroos). Still feeling good about the U.S. A draw or better against Portugal would almost certainly mean advancement. This has already been an incredibly fun World Cup. boitoirich 06-18-2014, 09:14 PM Wowee about Spain... FiveThirtyEight has the scenarios for the United States to advance to the knockout round. There are many permutations, but there is near certainty the US would advance with either a tie against Portugal, or a win over either Portugal/Germany. A loss to Portugal and a tie with Germany would be dicey. So this next game is the key -- have to pick up points, lest we find ourselves needing 3 against Die Mannschaft. bradh 06-18-2014, 09:18 PM What are everyone's plans for watching Sunday? I think with a tie against Portugal and a close lose to Germany, we are into the next round. If Portugal beats Ghana, and ties us, that gives both teams four points. If we can keep the goal differential down against Germany, the second place spot is ours. And IF we do make the next round, we play the #1 team from group H, which will probably be Belgium or Russia, and I like how we match up against either of those teams. And with Ronaldo nursing an injury and Pepe out because of a red card, we have a decent chance of making it a good game against Portugal. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk Pete 06-18-2014, 09:43 PM ^ There was a lot of chatter today about Ronaldo being completely out for Sunday's match. But even if he plays, he's clearly not totally fit. bradh 06-18-2014, 09:45 PM I believe Portugal is missing another defender (Coentrao) but I'm not certain. Teo9969 06-18-2014, 10:29 PM Win against Portugal is a guaranteed spot Tie against Portugal then the Portuguese need to gain 5 goals in differential on the final day just to tie and go to the 3rd tiebreaker which is total goals scored. If we manage to advance into the next round and if we beat the winner of group H then we likely would have to play Argentina… :( :( bradh 06-18-2014, 10:35 PM We will need to score quick again against Portugal, that is a mentally fragile team if I've ever seen one. dankrutka 06-18-2014, 10:43 PM What are everyone's plans for watching Sunday? I don't think anything will surprise me, whether its us getting blown out or vice versa. We just showed little to no attack without Altidore against Ghana. They essentially played keepaway against us and gave us very few opportunities, thank God we took advantage of the ones we got. On the other hand, Portugal looks underwhelming so far. Not to mention how many guys they'll have out or injured against us as well. Lets hope Dempsey's broken nose doesn't affect his breathing and we should have a solid chance. Maybe this Brooks kid will continue to come through in the clutch. Who knows, its all a crapshoot in the World Cup. John Knight 06-20-2014, 11:18 AM *An update from the American Outlaws Facebok page* DETAILS FOR PORTUGAL WATCH PARTY: - There will be porta potties! - The watch party itself will be up and running by 1p, or right before the 2p game. We encourage ALL folks to come out early and avoid those pesky lines! - Speaking of lines, there will now be TWO lines at the entrance, one for cash and one for cards. We will also have a card machine outside so tabs can be run out there, rather than having to go into Skinnys. We hope this will speed up the process. - We will also have more folks checking ID's in the lines, so please have them ready! Also, please have your cash/card/ticket allotment order ready when you get to the front of the line. - Skinnys will be customizing the beer trucks a bit in order to get through orders faster. There should be a line strictly for Hamm's and more beer in general so we shouldn't have any shortages. - There will be TWO more TVs added to the mix, so we will have 4 total 70 inch TVs out there. We will also be moving the truck back under the bridge just a bit to reduce the glare. There are plans in the mix for viewing the Germany game and/or (knock on wood) any knockout matches. So buy lots of beer! Again, please get in early so we can reduce the line length pre-match. Also, MENT Appare (http://www.mentapparel.com)l and AO OKC tents will be set up, so buy some sexy merchandise! I will pin this post to the top and add any details as needed. PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS! We look forward to seeing you Sunday! boitoirich 06-20-2014, 12:09 PM This may be elementary but why do they use the plural when referring to the teams? Collective nouns referring to a group (USMNT, England, Dallas [as in Cowboys, or Mavericks] etc) are treated differently depending on which dialect of English you speak. American English treats collective nouns as singular ("Dallas is still alive") unless modified by a pluralized attribute ("The Dallas Cowboys are still alive.") British English treats both as plural without exception ("England are out, but the Yankees are not.")
