The plans shown in the article are conceptual, not final.
However, construction on this project is scheduled for July 2014.
We should see final designs submitted to the design committee soon.
Plutonic Panda 04-17-2014, 11:27 AM That's nice. I just wish there would be structured parking instead of a parking lot, but oh well. This should be a nice facility.
bombermwc 04-18-2014, 09:01 AM Now if we could only do something about the county courthouse and building.
$19 million building permit application today for this project.
They still have to submit detailed plans for design review, but this should be under construction soon.
I'm sure they want to finish it around the same time as the new Police HQ so they can demo the building they currently share.
G.Walker 05-23-2014, 02:07 PM Good to see this project moving along, the west side of downtown will be really nice in a few years. Seems like this side of town has more momentum then the C2S area.
I actually just spoke to someone at the City about this and he said it will go to bid in August or September then start construction around November.
New renderings revealed; see article at top for more info:

warreng88 07-10-2014, 11:16 AM Will the city have to wait until this is done to tear down the building to the south?
Will the city have to wait until this is done to tear down the building to the south?
Yes.
The bids for this project came in at $4 million over budget so they will have to re-bid and see if they can get the cost down before starting.
bombermwc 01-27-2015, 08:36 AM So this looks like its going in the parking lot between the communications building (the short one behind the rendering) and the current city court building. There really isn't anywhere else to park while construction takes place, which will be a couple years. Are they planning on tearing down the old HQ building and pave that lot in the meantime?
The current building isn't nice, but it isn't crap either. Crap is the county building!!!!
HOT ROD 01-28-2015, 01:55 AM isn't this in the Arts District (not the CBD)?
bombermwc 01-28-2015, 08:51 AM Yes, it's basically right behind the Civic Center.
After re-bidding the entire project, looks like things are ready to move forward.
Application for a construction trailer today.

I was at City Court Thursday and noticed the lot was closed for parking and that the toll booth had been torn down. The city employees that parked there have also been moved.

One more reason to rebrand the district the "Civic District."

Just the facts 08-03-2015, 11:40 AM YASS, another district!!11!!
Yea, but this would be a real district meeting the definition of the word, not a made up district used for marketing purposes. From Hudson to Classen there is the Library, county court house, city hall, main st garage, the city's IT building, bicentennial park (which should be renamed Civic Park), the Civic Center, the 2 old police headquarters, the new police headquarters, the 911 operations center, the old and new municipal courthouse, and the county jail.

Construction underway for new municipal building downtown | KFOR.com (http://kfor.com/2015/08/03/construction-underway-for-new-municipal-building-downtown/)
kevinpate 08-03-2015, 09:55 PM When this is done, it is going to be nice. In the interim, coming up for court is a bit of a hassle. Ahhhh, progress.
Well underway now:

jstaylor62 03-24-2016, 02:47 PM So what about the impact to the Civic Center of losing two parking lots?
Urbanized 03-24-2016, 03:29 PM ^^^^^^^^
The existing existing courts building (and former police station) will be demolished in favor of surface parking. Considering the fact that the new police station was built on a lot that was never public parking, it should essentially be a wash.
jstaylor62 03-27-2016, 11:50 AM The Civic Center is a popular venue for graduation events in the Spring. Lack of parking will impact numerous events until old court building is demolished.
The new Main Street parking garage added a ton of spaces very nearby and that garage is empty on nights and weekends.
Jeepnokc 03-27-2016, 12:21 PM There was a general public parking lot where the building is going that served the courthouse. It is gone and not sure where people going to court are actually parking now as we usually walk from the office. I know a lot of the attorneys park at the jail and walk over.
kevinpate 03-27-2016, 04:03 PM We parks where we can, and hopes for the best. It is nice that the meters across the street ringing the jail allow the option for longer than an hour or two. Not often necessary, but appreciated when it is going to be.

HOT ROD 05-17-2016, 02:36 PM nit-picky but isn't this located in the Arts District (for real) and not in the CBD?
The moniker used for this says Business District, any way to change it to AD?

Looks modern & up-to-date. The landscape should polish off this site.

OKC Municipal Courthouse Building
Noticed the core structures have a blend of 2 different shades of brick. The Chesapeake Energy Arena, Block 42, Lift, Lofts & Brownstones @ Maywood.
You mentioned the blonde brick, these structures grow on you with time; also adds to the variety of distinct structures within the area.

Hard to tell but they are pretty far along on the interior finishes here.
I bet they wrap this up in the next 60 days or so.

They are almost finished with this project.
Won't be long before the big move then the demolition of the old building that sits between here and the new police HQ.
Hope they get some interesting in the city jail RFP.

I guess I did know about those I must have forgotten. I never really am in that area whenever I am in town so it makes sense they dropped off my radar. Thanks for finding that. That entire area is looking good!
