I really like their mushroom & swiss burgers and their onion burgers are good too. While they have a "good" burger, I much prefer S&B. Garage meat always seems kinda bland to me. Stickman 04-22-2015, 08:46 AM I like it better than Tuckers and for less dinero at that. HangryHippo 04-22-2015, 09:34 AM I like it better than Tuckers and for less dinero at that. I really like Tucker's flavors, but I'll be damned if I don't leave sick after every visit. But I love the Garage. It's outstanding. I quit going to Tuckers due to having an upset stomach. I tried it 3 times in a row and the same thing. It's great while I was eating but not worth the after effect. I think the garage onion burger is good, less costly and no after effects. dankrutka 04-22-2015, 04:04 PM Just going to point out that Tucker's has never made me sick and I prefer it to the Garage (which is also good). Just couldn't let this forum devolve into anti-Tucker's rhetoric for much longer... ;) Urbanized 04-22-2015, 05:26 PM ^^^^^^^ Agreed. sooner88 04-22-2015, 06:20 PM I think both burgers are good, but both places are very different. The Garage is a great spot to go and watch the game and grab a beer and burger with a ton of toppings/specialty burgers while Tucker's is a (very good) straight forward onion burger restaurant. Buffalo Bill 04-22-2015, 08:48 PM Just going to point out that Tucker's has never made me sick and I prefer it to the Garage (which is also good). Been there 3 times and just have been disappointed in the burger every single time. Now if a group of friends/family want to go, then I'll go. It's decent enough to eat. But I could think of 10 other burger places I'd rather go. Pete 04-23-2015, 01:41 PM I still like the food at Tucker's better, but the two are quite different places. The Garage has a ton more choices and a broader menu, a full bar, etc. The one in Midtown is great just as a hang-out spot. I've yet to try S&B but it's closer to the Garage model (bar, etc.) than Tucker's. onthestrip 04-23-2015, 03:08 PM The whole ordering set up at Garage is a big turn off. While I sit at the bars frequently at restaurants, and you can get full service at the garage in doing that, its when Im with a bigger group and need a table that I dont like the order at the other end of the restaurant set up. It appears they have a decent amount of wait staff, so I dont know why they cant take orders at the table. Its especially annoying when you want to order another beer. And judging from my friends comments to me in the past, grilled onion burgers being hard on the stomach isnt an uncommon phenomena. Or is it phenomenon? Eh, who cares. okatty 04-23-2015, 03:27 PM This is a ditto. I quit going to Tuckers due to having an upset stomach. I tried it 3 times in a row and the same thing. For me, Nic's and S&B for sure. And maybe Tucker's and Patty Wagon; if not better, around the same level. dankrutka 04-23-2015, 10:59 PM Republic burger is #1 in my book. soonermike81 04-24-2015, 05:05 AM Republic burger is #1 in my book. Yeah I guess I wasn't thinking about some of these other bars/restaurants. Was thinking of burger only joints. But yeah, Republic does a pretty mean burger. Roger S 04-24-2015, 07:21 AM I stumbled across a little diner in the Stockyards (http://www.urbanspoon.com/rph/46/1503133/3980947/oklahoma-city-longhorn-cafe-longhorn-cafe-photo) not named Cattlemen's a few weeks ago that is making an awesome burger...... I mean a burger that jumped to the top of my burger list kind of burger. Perfectly seared with a crispy crust on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. Wishbone 04-24-2015, 08:33 AM Garage tacos ftw! Urban Johnnies for burgers. Outhunder 04-24-2015, 09:48 AM Yeah, I would love to hear these 10 places. For me, Nic's and S&B for sure. WHAT!!!! Pete are you serious - if you haven't had S&B, you MUST TRY IT before you leave OKC. The 59th & May location is the best overall, but the 9th St is winning us over, especially with their full size veggie burgers, which are just amazing. They actually make theirs in-house. Can't find anything like it anywhere else in OKC. okatty 04-24-2015, 06:05 PM 1. Nic's 2. Tuckers 3. S&B TheTravellers 04-28-2015, 01:57 PM Ok maybe I missed it on the menu, but what's the difference between their no-name burger and regular burger? No Name Ranch (http://www.irmasburgershack.com/index.php/affiliations/2-no-name-ranch) Short version - it's all-natural beef raised on a ranch here in OK instead of some generic stuff frozen 4 states over and shipped here. Dustin 08-23-2015, 06:31 PM I was in Midtown trying to find a place to eat before the Dodgers game on Friday and was skeptical when some friends said they wanted to try The Garage. I had heard mixed reviews from people about their other locations, but the Yelp reviews on this location were excellent so I decided to give it a try. Let me start out by saying when I enter a burger joint and there are literally 20 different burger options on the menu, I get a little skeptical. Too many choices is usually a recipe for disaster. This is why Tuckers is my favorite burger joint in OKC. There are 4 burgers options. Keep it simple, make a great burger every time, and I will throw money at you. Anywho... It took me a little longer than my friends to order a burger because there were just so many options and all of them, to my surprise, looked pretty tasty. I ended up ordering the Grilled Jalapeno Bacon Cheeseburger with a side of sweet potato fries. We wandered out to the patio to wait for our food. When our food came out, we all took our first bite and there was silence. Everything was so damn good we couldn't even speak except to make a "MMMMMMMMHHHHH" sound. The jalapenos on my burger still had seeds and membrane but they were cooked down so much that they weren't all that spicy. They were perfect. And if it did get a little spicy, the garlic aioli spread helped to cool things down. The meat was juicy and was crispy on the outside. The sweet potato fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I would give this place a 5/5. Hands down one of the top 3 burgers I have ever had. WILL DEF BE BACK! MagzOK 08-24-2015, 02:40 PM Totally agree. I'll tell you what though, they are not consistent in their locations. I love this one here in MidTown. I've been to the one in Edmond a few times and each time did not like it at all. Pete 08-24-2015, 02:56 PM I've only eaten at the one in Edmond and was not impressed at all. Will make sure to stop by the Midtown location soon. bchris02 08-24-2015, 03:00 PM Totally agree. I'll tell you what though, they are not consistent in their locations. I love this one here in MidTown. I've been to the one in Edmond a few times and each time did not like it at all. I agree. Every time I have been to the Midtown location it has been mouthwateringly good. One of the best burgers in the city in my opinion. SoonerDave 08-24-2015, 03:01 PM I've only eaten at the one in Edmond and was not impressed at all. Will make sure to stop by the Midtown location soon. Pete, as someone who visited one Garage location initially and was not impressed, I must confess a second visit was entirely worth the trouble. The location opened on I-240 was, at best, mediocre upon their initial opening, and I had no great desire to go back. However, after visiting their location on Sooner in MWC and found it to be *excellent*, I gave the I-240 location another shot - and it had improved immensely. Burgers served super-hot and surprisingly quickly. Now, I've never visited the Edmond location, so I can't speak to it, but my point is that I'm not generally one to give very many places >1 or 2 chances, but Garage has me sold. Every visit after the first to the I-240 location has been very good, so perhaps another location or a revisit to Edmond might be a better experience :) And I'm a pretty tough customer to please when it comes to burgers. I've got fairly fixed ideas on what makes a good burger (and, of course, I'm right), so getting a nod from me on a burger place isn't easy. Pete 08-24-2015, 03:03 PM I like the setting in Midtown enough I'd eat there just for that. Dustin 08-24-2015, 03:11 PM This is why I'm not always a fan of restaurants becoming chains. Inconsistency. Tuckers being the obvious exception because of the awesome management of A Good Egg Dining Group. MagzOK 08-24-2015, 03:15 PM The one in Edmond is crammed into an old put-put golf clubhouse. Just the atmosphere alone is not very giving, and really the food doesn't taste the same. The MidTown location is in an old building with high ceilings and lots of windows and feels very open. onthestrip 08-24-2015, 03:18 PM Not a regular visitor simply because Im not a fan of the service/ordering setup. Why not make it a full service restaurant and do away with the order line. Its not like they dont have servers going around. Also not a fan of their buns. Too weak and fragile for what are some large and heavily topped burgers. bradh 08-24-2015, 03:30 PM Not a regular visitor simply because Im not a fan of the service/ordering setup. Too weak and fragile for what are some large and heavily topped burgers. go with the wheat...i've found they hold up better Roger S 08-24-2015, 04:02 PM I've experienced differences at the I-240 location between lunch and dinner.... have been several times for lunch and it was good but went once for dinner and while it was less crowded my burger came out like a hockey puck. Have never had a bad experience at the Norman location for dinner nor have I had a bad experience at the Midtown location for lunch. But I find S&B to be the same... I've had consistently good visits to the original on May. The one on 9th Street has been hit or miss and I won't return to the one on Walker. rezman 08-24-2015, 04:24 PM Been to the Edmond Garage location a couple of times. Really wasn't impressed enough to make another trip back over there. David 08-24-2015, 06:53 PM Experiences vary. I occasionally take my department at the office to the Edmond location for our monthly birthday lunch, and it works reasonably well; the room at the end with the four picnic tables works fairly nicely if you have a sizable group. That said, I do prefer the Midtown location if I had to choose one or the other. Pete 08-24-2015, 07:09 PM I remember thinking the lighting was all wrong at the Edmond place... Too bright / harsh... Something. I think it's a great concept though. BrettM2 08-24-2015, 09:31 PM Been to the Edmond location twice, Midtown three times, and Del City about the same. Favorite is Midtown, though it's mostly atmosphere. I haven't noticed any service/quality issues at the Edmond location, though as others have said, the layout isn't as good as the other locations. Go with the Sticky Finger and add a fried egg. You can thank me later. CCOKC 08-26-2015, 10:27 AM I like that they have a good variety for vegetarians like me. I usually get the avocado melt when I go the Garage and enjoy it immensely. I have only been to the Midtown location so I cannot compare to the others. sooner88 08-26-2015, 10:32 AM One complaint that I had was they don't have very many healthy options (i.e. grilled chicken). I haven't tried it yet, but they recently have added smoked, sliced turkey as a protein option. shawnw 08-26-2015, 10:33 AM I'm at the midtown location at least once a week if not twice and thus cannot count how many times I've been there now. It has yet to let me down. kukblue1 08-26-2015, 03:52 PM When is the one by the outlet shopees opening. That building is going up fast. About the same for me. Pete 08-26-2015, 04:04 PM A Midtown resident told me that the manager at that particular Garage is really great, which is no doubt why that is a stand-out food quality location for them. Urbanized 08-26-2015, 04:06 PM Yeah, I've only been to one other Garage (Norman) but was nowhere as impressed as I routinely am at this one. bradh 08-26-2015, 09:18 PM One complaint that I had was they don't have very many healthy options (i.e. grilled chicken). HangryHippo 08-27-2015, 08:36 AM The Garage in Norman is pretty great, but the one in Midtown is by far the best. The one at 122nd & Rockwell used to be good, but its consistency has fallen off considerably. SoonerDave 08-27-2015, 09:40 AM One complaint that I had was they don't have very many healthy options (i.e. grilled chicken). One hamburger once in a while isn't going to make that big a dent in the "healthy" department. It's all about moderation. My daughter tried the sliced turkey "burger", and I took a couple of bites, and it was very tasty. Anonymous. 08-27-2015, 09:56 AM The turkey burger option is on point. Definitely recommend. sooner88 08-27-2015, 10:28 AM Meh, splurge once. One hamburger once in a while isn't going to make that big a dent in the "healthy" department. It's all about moderation. My daughter tried the sliced turkey "burger", and I took a couple of bites, and it was very tasty. I live upstairs and eat there way too often, just was wanting to have an option to balance out all the burgers haha. I'll try out the sliced turkey and the buffalo in the future. catch22 08-27-2015, 07:29 PM I found the Midtown Garage to be a good burger. I would not classify it a a top burger in the city, however. All things considered: location, speed, atmosphere, price point -- it's a solid burger. However, I'll take a Nic's Burger, or an S&B any day of the week. I've been to S&B enough times that I have a lot of their plastic cups with me here in Portland. I use them around the apartment for soda or water cups. It's a nice memento from OKC, as well as a Fuzzy's Taco and Harkins Theater cups. Some of my S&B cups are starting to fade, so may be time to stop in next time I am in town. White Peacock 09-19-2015, 09:56 AM My family and I are regulars at the 122nd location. It's consistently good except for the fact that a few weeks back, they switched to a different type of pepper for their spicy options, and it's uncomfortably hot. Like, pure capsaicin hot. I'm a hot-sauce-on-almost-everything kind of guy, but they actually managed to ruin a burger for me with this chemical warfare. So I switched to the fried onion burger, which is pretty fantastic. Pete 09-23-2015, 07:20 AM Finally went to the Midtown location yesterday. The burger there was miles better than the one I had at the Garage in Edmond. In that first experience, I found everything to be okay but not a place I would seek out in the future. But the burger I had yesterday was fantastic. I had the jalapeno bacon cheeseburger but not of those toppings overwhelmed the perfectly cooked and juicy patty. Plus, that space is very cool. It's a lot bigger than I thought it would be and virtually every table was full at lunch. But even so, placing an order was quick and the food came out plenty fast. Plus, they have some great beers on taps served in a frosted pint glass -- no frosted glass at the Edmond location that I can recall. AP 09-23-2015, 07:22 AM I went here to watch the first OSU game and it was packed with OSU fans. I didn't really expect it to be a place for watch parties but it turns out it is perfect for that. |
