View Full Version : Empty buildings on Broadway
traxx 04-08-2014, 11:22 AM As you're coming into Edmond, on the east side of B'way, there's what used to be BG Bolton's and what I think was maybe a Marie Calendar's. It looks like the companies that originally built these restaurants made them look pretty decent as far as chain restaurants go. But they've sat empty for so long, has their use by date passed? It looks to me like they're becoming run down to where if another restaurant or business wanted to use that space, it'd be better to tear down and start over. If someone had taken over either building a couple of years back, they could've retrofitted the building for a new restaurant.
I guess there are no plans for anyone to purchase or use this land anytime soon, huh?
Where exactly on Broadway?
South of 33rd?

Plutonic Panda 04-08-2014, 12:38 PM I just wish they demo all of that and turn into a larger development, which would be nice. I hardly see all of that parking utilized.
traxx 04-08-2014, 12:40 PM The reason the parking isn't utilized is because those places have been closed for years.
Plutonic Panda 04-08-2014, 12:42 PM Even when it was used, I rarely saw all the parking being utilized.
traxx 04-08-2014, 12:50 PM Even when it was used, I rarely saw all the parking being utilized.
I guess that's why they went out of business.
Plutonic Panda 04-08-2014, 12:56 PM Lack of people equals lack of cars being parked, so probably that is the case. Either way, I still think this should be demoed and turned into a larger development with more stores.

When the grocery stores and hallmark were there, it was typically fairly full.
Plutonic Panda 04-08-2014, 01:59 PM When the grocery stores and hallmark were there, it was typically fairly full.ok, I never once saw it full, guess I didn't go on the right days.
jerrywall 04-08-2014, 02:02 PM Honestly, it may have been before your time. I mean, the grocery stores have been gone from there for almost 20 years or so.
Plutonic Panda 04-08-2014, 02:03 PM Oh wow.... ok. Then that explains a lot lol.....
traxx 04-08-2014, 03:40 PM Honestly, it may have been before your time. I mean, the grocery stores have been gone from there for almost 20 years or so.
Are you sure. I don't ever remember there being a grocery store at that location. What was the name of it?

I totally brainfarted and cross threads in my mind somehow. Ignore my mental lapse.

Oh, were you thinking about the 33rd and Blvd thread?
OkieHornet 04-08-2014, 05:09 PM yeah, there's some confusion going on here... the 2 restaurants traxx is talking about are on the east side of broadway about halfway between 33rd and memorial - just north of the new traffic light. just south of chili's/outback/hibdon.
bluedogok 04-08-2014, 06:05 PM The ones in the Google link were a Marie Callender's and a Logan's/Santa Fe.
jerrywall 04-08-2014, 06:29 PM Oh, were you thinking about the 33rd and Blvd thread?
Yup.
artynok 01-11-2017, 08:55 PM I know this is an old thread, but I have seen some activity at one of the old restaurant sites. It looks like it is about to get demolished. It is the steakhouse, the southern most property.
Richard at Remax 01-12-2017, 09:59 AM For years it has been rumored for hotels to be build in the plot of land behind there. maybe it got reconfigured to bring it closer to broadway
jjjumper 01-13-2017, 09:38 AM I've heard a rumor that Outback may be closing soon, too. Don't know how true it is though.
jbkrems 01-13-2017, 12:50 PM Outback closing? Wow, that has been an Edmond staple for so long. I do think they have slid in recent years, probably the past 3-4 years. I don't go there anymore, but I know tons of people who do. Maybe Charlestons is giving them a run for their money.
jerrywall 01-13-2017, 01:03 PM I'd be sort of surprised. They stay pretty busy, and are usually pretty full most times I go there.
Richard at Remax 01-14-2017, 04:48 PM I remember when Outback and Chili's opened up. it was a BIG deal. Look how far we have come
Harbinger 01-14-2017, 11:33 PM The old BG Boltens has been officially demolished. I had actually posted a link to an Edmond building application permit page (PDF) under a general economic development thread about, maybe, three months ago. I noticed an application for a 4mm building permit by a hotel company for around this very address. I have been very curious about this area.
traxx 01-17-2017, 09:55 AM It must've been demolished recently. I was by there just a week or two ago and it was still there.
okcdowntown 01-17-2017, 10:23 AM That's interesting...that building went down fast.
traxx 01-23-2017, 03:49 PM You are correct, Harbinger. I drove past the other day and it is gone.
jjjumper 03-02-2017, 10:14 PM Harbor Freight is looking to build on the old BG Bolton's site:
