Does anyone remember Takara Bicycle Company and/or have any literature from them? They were an Oklahoma City based company that imported bicycles from Japan (mainly built by Kuwuhara) and sold them under the Takara brand. I've picked up a couple over the years, one a 70's road bike that was a lead-sled and the other an early 80's mountain bike that was actually a pretty decent bike. I would love to find a catalog from the 1983-1985 period to find out more about the mountain bike.

Anyone have anything on this company?

In the mid 70s a group of guys I rode with organized a road racing team. Takara sponsored us. Wheeler-Dealer was the local seller of Takara so they might still have some info on the brand.

Thanks! I'll check with them.

My good friend, who used to live down the street from me, had a Takara BMX bicycle. It was so exotic to me at the time.

Wheeler Dealer replied to my e-mail and they no longer have any literature on Takara. Not surprising but sometimes I forget that not everyone is a book hoarder like me. :D

Now I'm trying my luck thru interlibrary loan.

I lucked out and a member of one of the bicycle forums I frequent is a librarian and she found the article and copied it for me.
