There is a teaser ad in the Gazette this week of a pint glass, topped with the OKC skyline, and it says "Something Great Is Brewing in Oklahoma." Underneath it says "April 1." Does anyone know what this is?

This is what I was referring to.

New brewery? New beer related event? I've got no idea but I do like that graphic.

If it was an event, they would likely provide much more notice.

I suspect it's a new beer tasting room since the laws have recently changed (11/1/13) to allow them (like the one at Mustang Brewing).

Don't think it's a new bar of any sort because we would have certainly got wind of it by now.

Wasn't Coop Ale Works looking to build a new brewery with a tasting room?

My guess is one of the local brewers currently using a co op will have their own stand alone brewery. Maybe Black Mesa??

I'm guessing an April Fools Joke on all us who yearn for more relaxed drinking laws for our in state brewers/vintners/distillers

Under construction. I haven't asked about it lately but will get an update.

The last time I talked to them, they were planning to or had already purchased space out west of town for the brewery but had a five year plan that included them eventually moving downtown. That was last year so I'm not sure if anything has changed.

The space out west is leased space and currently under construction.

Ah, wasn't sure if they bought or leased it.

On the Oklahoma beer front come April:

^^^ I think Bob may have it. Founders will begin distribution April 1 in OK. As a craft beer lover, this is a huge deal. Founders is a fantastic brewery that consistently has beers in the top 200 list. A couple of their brews are truly world class (KBS, for example). Their All Day IPA (sessionable IPA, currently all the rage in the craft beer scene) is also excellent.

Hmmm. "...Brewing in Oklahoma" made me think it was something about an Oklahoma-based brewery or breweries, but perhaps not. Either way, it's great to get more craft beers available in the state.

Could this not be coffee related or is it a definite beer related tease?

I think that is most definitely a beer glass....

It's definitely beer related. And a new clue has been added in the most recent Gazette. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/21/4ujy5eba.jpg

I had in Grand Rapids when I was up there for training last June. Good stuff.

There ya go! Nice call Bob!

Ps- I've been tweeting back and forth w/ Founders and Tapwerks and it looks like Tapwerks is tapping a keg of KBS April the 16th. If you are a stout fan, you need to make your way down there. Once KBS is gone, it's gone until the next year.

Really interesting article on Founders and KBS, specifically. For those interested in such things... The KBS story: How a barrel-aged stout became a craft beer phenomenon | MLive.com (http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2014/03/founders_kbs_backstory.html)

Anything from Founders is good stuff. We usually bring a variety back with us when we visit West Michigan once or twice a year. Michigan has an incredibly diverse and active craft brewing scene; Founders is the tip of the iceberg.

What time will this be going down? I love barrel aged beers (probably because i love bourbon so much)

Not sure of a time yet, all they would give me was the day.

The time will be important though... When Prairie had their tap takeover a couple weeks ago, one of their most popular beers (Pirate BOMB!) was tapped in 21 minutes. I know because the guy in front of me got the last one. I had to "settle" for BOMB! and Pirate Noir.

So is this a limited time thing, like once this beer is gone it is gone until next year? Or is it something that will be regularly available?

For KBS, yes, it's extremely limited. For Founders in general - no, we're getting year-round distribution of all their wonderful beers.

Settling for BOMB! That's a pretty good thing. Glad to see BOMB is starting to become more common in OKC. Republic has it on tap right now. Beer advocate rated it a 100 or world class beer. You've gotta be careful at 14% alcohol! That stuff will knock you off your feet! Really enjoy seeing OK breweries doing well.

A very good thing! Prairie is really making a name for themselves. Not just nationally, but internationally. They've done collaborations w/ Mikkeler (a fantastic brewery out of Copenhagen) and Evil Twin (an good brewery out of Copenhagen).

I actually happened to be in Copenhagen last summer on business and stopped by the Mikkeler brewpub (had a couple Beer Geek Brunch Weasels, a VERY good beer). The bartender asked where I was from and I mentioned Oklahoma. His face lit up and he said "Prairie!!". Kinda crazy.

Ps- Urban Johnnie has BOMB! In bottles. 10 bucks a pop... But remember, that's more alcohol than 4(!!!) 3.2 beers!!

Haha, very funny!

Seriously though, I know it's a bit ridiculous that all American brewers seem to know what to do is just dump more hops into brews, I've already gone through IPA to Stout/Porter back to IPA cycle. I too grew tired of over-hopped-ness, went to stouts and porters for a while, but found myself wanting hops again.

KBS is one of the best, if not the best, Barrel Stouts out there. This is pretty awesome.

I usually consider myself a beer snob, but have not had anything from Founders. I'm excited if they're this highly regarded.

Thats a good complaint to have. I had the same issue and was glad to have to "suffer" through it.

Cant wait to try this KBS.
