Why did the Wendy's on I-240 close? Hard to believe a national chain wouldn't make it in that area.

Wendy's is in the midst of a national streamlining of their operations and is closing 130 "underperforming" stores across the country. They're also offering heavy incentives for franchise owners to remodel their existing stores into Wendy's new "Urban" concept (link to photo escapes me at the moment) store that has been associated with increased same-store sales in their test marketing.

The I-240 location has been around for ever - they also closed the location on North May next to Taco Cabana. Hate to see 'em go. Now we've got to go down to Moore or to SW 44th for Frosties this summer :)

The I-240 location is absolutely a permanent closure. There is a note scrawled on the windows saying "STORE CLOSED - VISIT STORE ON SW 44th and WESTERN." A real estate sign went up in front of the property today.

There is one near NE 36th and Lincoln, NW Expressway near Council, also on SE 29th and Sunnylane in Del City and Reno and Air Depot in Midwest City

Edit: Also there is that one in front of Sams on Penn and Memorial.

Yeah, but those locations aren't practical options for us distance-wise in a mid-summer Frosty Fit :)

They actually redid that Wendy's (44th) a few years ago- not the extensive reno described here, but it was an improvement.
'
The Wendy's on I-240 really wasn't that bad - the outside was a little weatherbeaten, and the parking lot needed some patching up, and that goes a long way to making the place seem unpleasant. Well, I guess it went a long way now that its closed.

This property is owned by 7-11 but today a building permit application was filed for a new Wendy's.

7-11 owns all the property outlined in blue in the 2nd image below, but Wendy's is building on the north half.

What remains would be too small for a new 7-11, so I suspect that will be sold to another fast food operator.

It seems 7-11 has had a change of plans. I don't see them squeezing a store onto the remaining lot.

The property to the south is under completely separate ownership.

OK I was wondering. I drive by there everyday and the sign that says 7-11 coming soon is actually on the land in front of the hotel that is why I wonder what was going on.

Good point but when I drove by today there were literally 2 shopping carts filled with stuff and trash every where right across from their parking lot. It's not a good look for a new store opening.

I was told that a new Wendy's is coming to the corner of 178th and Western, across from Louie's and OnCue.

According to the OK County Assessor, Legacy Bank owns the open southeast corner. But "Restraurant Holdings LLC" has a plot just behind the newly constructed OnCue on the southwest corner. This will put it next to a soon to be built Okie Express car wash.

Whomever is the franchisee for Wendy's in OKC must be doing great business to be able to build all of these new locations.

I have noticed that in the last five years, a lot of new Wendy's have opened in OKC, and a lot of Arby's have closed. I couldn't believe how many Arby's were around back in 2015/16.

That's an interesting spot for a Wendy's. I am pretty curious what will go in on the southeast corner of that intersection, that's a prime spot now that the OnCue is about finished.

I've never been a big fan of Wendy's but I have been home-bound and unable to drive for 12 days while my wife was out of the country and did a bit of Door Dash ordering and Wendy's was so good I ordered it again the next day! Now I'm excited for the new location on 178th & Western.

If anybody cares to download the app I'm not sure how much longer they're running a promo for a free large fry witha ny mobile order

Can stack the 2 for $5. I normally get 10 pc spicy nuggets, spicy chicken sandwich, and large fry for $5.41

Wendy's has that really good 4 for 4 deal as well. If I'm not in the mood to cook, but also don't want to spend $10 - $20 going out to eat, you can get 8 spicy nuggets, a double stack, fries, and a drink for less than $6. Usually my go-to fast food.

Very good to know, thanks! Was disappointed when we saw they offered it a few years ago, then drove up to the one on 36th/May one morning and it wasn't open for breakfast. It'll be a nice option to Dunkin' and McD's when we have to do a quick breakfast, since Wendy's is within walking distance from us.

I'm to the north of you C.T. just a short walk. Was hoping for something better than a Wendy's, but that area, and to the west and north has been pretty restaurant starved and folks are willing to accept just about anything. Take the new 405 Pizza and Leonardo's Mexican restaurants to the west. Both of which have been receiving high reviews amongst the locals, but are marginal at best. My daughter loves Wendy's spicy chicken nuggets, so I guess that's a plus.

Agreed! I'm not sure why this area of NWOKC is so limited with close food choices? Twin Oaks, Copper Creek, Silverhawk, Valencia, Rushbrook, etc are all packed with families, who like everyone else, need to eat food everyday. This Wendy's will be successful for those who live in NWOKC/West Edmond and can avoid Penn/Memorial traffic for fast food.

405 Pizza is great. We've eaten there probably 10 times since it opened. Leonardo's is good, so long as you're expecting taqueria and not Hildalgo's. It is a bit overpriced, however.

My experience with Leonardo's was the opposite. I was hoping for taqueria and found it to be more Hildago's. What I really wanted it to be is something like Tacos San Pedro or the dollar taco truck at SW 44th & May.

Leonardo's is pricey and I would choose Ted's or Alfredo's over Leonardo's.

I would say about the same. I've only had 405 Pizza twice but both times the crust was well cooked. About half the time, All American doesn't get the crust completely cooked on the bottom.

I liked 405's turkey melt sandwich much more than the pizza. That's not to say I didn't like the pizza, I just really liked the sandwich.

There was nothing at either one of those places that would make me want to return. Stars and Stripes pizza is much better and a better deal. Makes me wonder what everyone who is raving about those two places have had before to compare it to. But tastes do vary. I’ve never tried All American so can’t compare it.
