View Full Version : Sequoia Automall
A massive, 53.64 acre 7-dealership auto mall is proposed for Memorial between Western and Santa Fe.
To be called Sequoia Automall, it will consist of seven separate car dealership buildings and 3 smaller service buildings.
This would be on vacant land directly east of Reynolds Ford.

Plutonic Panda 02-21-2014, 07:27 PM Nice! Will provide some good infill. Hopefully they will do something cool and have unique design instead of the traditional car lots around here.
DowntownMan 02-21-2014, 09:46 PM How many more car dealerships can this area have? This is only about a mile or two from the bob Moore/bob Howard auto mall.

Don't bet the bank on that, plupan. A car dealership by definition will have a sea of parking and there is only so much you can do about that. They obviously won't want a lot of trees because trees attract birds and you know what kinds of nice deposits birds leave on cars.

Learned that the hard way parking under a tree downtown and walking to a Blazer's game.
Spartan 02-22-2014, 09:11 AM What's funny is that the site layout here is still yet more "new urbanist" than Lower Bricktown or Classen Curve

They obviously won't want a lot of trees because trees attract birds and you know what kinds of nice deposits birds leave on cars.Well of course there has to be parking. What I mean, it will provide some "infill" in the sense the space will be filled and put to a good use. Hopefully this dealership will break away from the traditional auto mall designs and add in some quality features that will beautify it a bit. It would be cooler to see a parking garage similar to the Mercede's dealer in Plano, but I can understand not having that for a cheaper car manufacturer.
It is hard to imagine seven auto makes that aren't already in that area.
However, it does indicate that the national economy is coming back pretty strong, as it wasn't that long ago we had tons of empty former car dealerships due to the recession and bankruptcy of several auto makers.
Plutonic Panda 02-22-2014, 11:12 AM Is there anything new to Bob Howard trying to secure a Bently dealership here?
catch22 02-22-2014, 11:23 AM What's funny is that the site layout here is still yet more "new urbanist" than Lower Bricktown or Classen Curve
Ironic isn't it? Buildings are pushed up relatively close to the street, with the parking behind the stores.
Spartan 02-22-2014, 11:36 AM And this appears to resemble a solid physical connection of N Walker between Memorial and the Kilpatrick
catch22 02-22-2014, 11:38 AM You're right. This restores the grid...
This actually isn't as bad as I originally feared.
bluedogok 02-22-2014, 11:44 AM With less parking than the typical main line brands this may very well be some "exclusive" type brands that do not floor plan as many vehicles as a typical domestic of Japanese/Korean import lot. Several of the specialty brands have much less parking in Austin and here in Denver, most have the vehicles indoors with some used outdoors. With separate buildings they may be building to brand prototypes.
Plutonic Panda 02-22-2014, 11:56 AM Are there any franchises secured yet? If so, do we know what automakers will be here?
Spartan 02-22-2014, 01:29 PM Now that private enterprise located north of Kilpatrick can restore the grid, why can't ODOT do this for downtown when GIFTED the opportunity?
DowntownMan 02-22-2014, 06:37 PM Speaking of car dealerships...I noticed there's a bob Moore sign along Kelly across from the Toyota dealership. I'm told they are building a new dealership in that empty lot on the east side of Kelly. I am unsure of the brand that's going to be built if that's even decided yet.

I noticed every dealership I saw in Vancouver had only cars inside. Absolutely no lots. The only way I knew it was a dealership was by looking through the window. Looked like any other type of store. Took me by surprise.

Subaru and Kia.
LuccaBrasi 02-22-2014, 07:49 PM Maserati is also coming to Bob Moore.
Urbanized 02-23-2014, 10:27 AM Maserati would make some sense, considering the recent uptick in affluence (or at least, conspicuous consumption) around here. Not to mention the fact that a week or two ago I saw my first ever Maserati TELEVISION COMMMERCIAL. Maserati marketing to the masses? What the heck?
HangryHippo 02-24-2014, 11:45 AM What's funny is that the site layout here is still yet more "new urbanist" than Lower Bricktown or Classen Curve
Wow, I hadn't noticed it, but that's a damn good point. What a travesty.
DowntownMan 02-24-2014, 08:55 PM Looks like Bob Moore Maserati is happening...Bob Moore Maserati (Renovation/Addition) - Construction Project in Oklahoma Oklahoma (http://dodgeprojects.construction.com/Bob-Moore-Maserati--Renovation-Addition-_stcVVproductId152860780VVviewprod.htm)
I think this is going in the old hummer dealership, which was just recently the Subaru dealership which has now moved to the old cadillac building until the new Subaru dealership is built.
Things must be doing better the automobile economy around here.

I saw that too and had the same reaction. I believe it was for the Quattroporte (which I'm told means "4 doors" in Italian, lol)
Plutonic Panda 02-24-2014, 10:00 PM It's the Ghilbi I believe(which is a cheaper version of the Quattroporte).... Will be neat to see a Maserati dealer here though.
LuccaBrasi 02-27-2014, 04:28 PM The special permit request on this got shot down in flames at the Planning Commission today. The commission said go back and get PUD and we'll see ya on March 27th.
Plutonic Panda 02-27-2014, 05:04 PM What was the special permit?

So, I guess this is going up again on the 27th. When is this expected to break ground? Are there any more details on this?

One small section of the site is zoned C2 or C 3 and they need a permit to sell cars on that site. The rest is zoned I and they can have car sales my right. They wanted the permit to cover the entire site. The planing commission didn't agree. And want design control over the entire site via spud Even through currently they could build metal and concerete. Building by right on 90% of the property.

Hopefully they include sufficient landscaping and not just a block of concrete. In this case, I'm glad is was not approved. It is about time OKC steps up its game.
DowntownMan 03-21-2014, 08:03 PM I'm curious as to what brands of car dealerships might open up in this development.
Plutonic Panda 03-21-2014, 08:47 PM I'm curious as to what brands of car dealerships might open up in this development.I was wondering if Bob Moore was going to move here and Bob Howard takes over, but Bob Moore is already investing in remodeling the old Hummer dealership into a Maserati dealership, so that likely isn't the case. Maybe Bob Moore will take over and the Bob Howard brand will move.
Jeepnokc 03-30-2014, 03:21 PM Does anyone know what happened on the 27th? Any clue who is behind Sequoia Automall?
OSUPeterson 04-03-2014, 05:37 PM Any information on this?
Plutonic Panda 04-03-2014, 05:40 PM Yeah I'd like to know as well. I really hope this happens. Will provide excellent infill as well.
OSUPeterson 04-03-2014, 06:19 PM It will be interesting to see if it happens. Im curious whether this is Eskridge trying to grab up some more space in OKC and expand their franchise lineup or if this is another dealer group trying to move in.
Also, Im curious as to what brands are coming. Supposedly, via your franchise contracts, it is not allowed to have more than one type of car franchise within another 10 or so miles of another. So, for example, BMW, Mini, Fiat, lincoln, Lexus, Ford, KIA, Toyota, Porsche, Land Rover, Audi and the rest of the cars over in the Nori, Bob Moore/Howard malls would not be able to go in here. Really limits the scope, and I just dont see there being room for 6 or 7 new dealerships.
I mean, Mercedes could go in but then what else? Tesla doesn't do the whole dealership thing through traditional dealer groups. Could a Lambo, Ferrari dealership really survive here? Would there be boutique dealerships opened up that had even more exotic offerings?
And currently, Bob Moore leases all their space from Bob Howard, so I doubt Howard is moving. Bob Howard owns almost everything from his automall down to 122nd I think.
Maybe they can bring back Daewoo.
LuccaBrasi 04-04-2014, 10:02 AM The auto mall is likely not going to happen, rumor has it in the dealership world that it's a ploy, or fake project, because of a lease agreement dispute between Bob Howard and Group One Auto.
Bob Moore does not lease from Bob Howard.
Plutonic Panda 04-04-2014, 02:07 PM That really sucks if the case
Plutonic Panda 04-24-2014, 09:49 PM I believe this development was continued today as some issues had to be worked out(from what I gathered), so at least this isn't completely dead.
Plutonic Panda 05-31-2014, 08:29 PM So I'm guessing this is not happening?
