I can understand why OU would want to err on the side of caution but could anything be sillier than this. LOL
A look at the NCAA rule that led to 'PastaGate' | News OK (http://newsok.com/a-look-at-the-ncaa-rule-that-led-to-pastagate/article/3935294)
So it appears the pasta serving size wasn’t the problem but the fact the pasta was part of a full meal and not light refreshments was the issue.

NCAA rules are often pretty silly. It's no wonder there are "violations" when the rulebook is labyrinthine and probably weighs 50 pounds.

The ESPIN article says that the NCAA said a violation didn't happen.

This is Boren's legal department at work here. They rule everything at OU with an iron fist.
They operate with virtually zero commonsense.

Do they really have a choice in the matter? Its the NCAA that's running the show. Welcome to the brave new world of college athletics where everyone is falling over themselves to cover their ass.
OU is already on their bad side after the Rhett Bomar incident and all the crap Kelvin Sampson pulled. Should something more serious happen in the future this will keep the "lack of institutional control" BS to a minimum.

I'm not sure how much choice they have in the matter?
But when the NCAA is saying that its not a violation and when added with the many things I have heard there are more than a few people around OU who think they to go over board on this stuff.
As far as the Bomar scandal I would like to think we have moved well past that.... Stoops has shown that unlike other coaches he won't look the other way on problem players, no matter who they are.
But as you indicate its CYA. OU is doing its best to CYA from a legal and NCAA point of view. Some university’s do this much better than others. OU doesn’t want its self on the front pages of magazine and news papers for a scandal.
CYA like this is better than the alternative!

Not sure about the specifics, but considering the Bomar business was nine years ago, and I think Sampson has been gone, what, eight years, I think the LOIC "umbrella" has closed on those incidents.
Kinda took me back a second to realize the Bomar business was that long ago - 2005/2006. Jeez, time flies...

If excess pasta carries a fine, my early life decision to forego organized athletics was a dang smart call on my part.

Can we please stop throwing gate onto the end of anything we consider a scandal? Watergate was the original scandal that made use of it so popular but that was the name of the hotel, not Water.
Ljbab, this was not directed at you, it is just a pet peeve of mine.

Ljbab, this was not directed at you, it is just a pet peeve of mine. It's a pet peeve of mine too. I read an article several months back about this phenomenon. It was a newspaper writer (can't remember the name, but you'd know who it is if I said it) back in the 70s that began adding gate to the end of every scandal or pseudo scandal.
I understand that the English language is supposed to change and morph to reflect popular usage but it drives me up the wall when words take on differnt meanings because of the general populations lack of understanding or knowledge. It's now acceptable to call a lectern a podium even though a podium is something you stand upon hence the root of pod meaning foot. Or decimate now means the same thing as obliterate. When decimate really means to reduce by 10% hence the root of deca. Gate is not a suffix meaning scandal, Watergate was the name of the hotel.

Trying to envision a gate made of dried pasta..
One of the OU players indicated in a tweet that they made a donation of 5 dollars to a charity because they felt they ate more than $3.88 worth of pasta. Fortunately these OL come from families that are pretty well off.

Wonder where that $5 came from? Is there another scandal brewing? Was it pay for car washing never done? Good lord send in the NCAA investigators NOW!They should be parachuting into Gaylord Stadium any second now! :Smiley122
