View Full Version : Marcus Smart shoves fan
betts 02-12-2014, 12:32 PM Stan VanGundy was on the Franchise today and pretty much said what I think. What Smart did wasn't right but universities also have to tell their fans that boorish behavior that singles out one player is not acceptable and find a way to stop it.
If you don't want to deal with loud mouth fans join the chess club.

How do you stop this.... After being pelted with all kinds of trash on their previous trip to osu Texas tried to stop it with a wall of plastic. The Big 12 told Texas they couldn't do it again.

Let's set up a cage match with Blake Griffin, Justin Bieber, Marcus Smart and the Tech fan: BB players on one team and non-BB players on the other team. PPV would sell out!
ou48A 02-12-2014, 10:05 PM OU is being proactive on this.......What are the odds of osu making a proactive move on good fan behavior?
OU has its own code of fan conduct.
OU basketball: Fans at OU-Texas Tech game warned about unsportsmanlike conduct | News OK (http://newsok.com/ou-basketball-fans-at-ou-texas-tech-game-warned-about-unsportsmanlike-conduct/article/3933067?custom_click=rss)
NORMAN — In light of recent events, Oklahoma wasn't taking any chances Wednesday night, when the Sooners hosted Texas Tech inside the Lloyd Noble Center.
Each fan sitting courtside found in their seat a letter informing them that game officials can call an “indirect technical foul” on the Sooners and request the fan's removal should they use profanity, racial slurs or threatening language during the game.
OU also displayed a fan code of conduct on the scoreboard before tipoff.

Bravo! But, let's leave OSU out of this. Let's keep the rivalry on the court. I'm just be proud that OU has responded to a bad situation very positively.
onthestrip 02-12-2014, 11:29 PM KSU did it before the KU game the other night. Indiana provided rules to fans before their game tonight. But I'm sure OU thought of it first and told them about it...

The NFL and other professional teams have come to OU to view the security package OU has in place. These experts talk to each other all the time. The best experts in the nation have said that OU's stadium security is among the very best in the nation, pro or college.
Part of this involves a code of fan conduct that dates back to about 2001.
Boren is extremely aware of the various security issues.
I personally think some of it at the low profile sports at OU has gone way over board.
I have talked to a OU police officer of the year many times. His name is Caesar.
PS: Caesar is a bomb expert.

Any university with their history of having problems with several other university’s needs to be held accountable. The conference has taken action on poor OSU behavior before.... but as can clearly be seen on videos and as recently as this past December OSU officials have failed to fully control their fans from throwing things that could cause bodily harm..OSU needs to enforce our state laws, add extra game security and video tape its student section. Until they control their fans they should be in the conversation....
But I could care less about poke vulgarity because they are only words. All it does is provide extra motivation for OU players. That extra motivation could be why OU has only lost 5 or 6 games in Stillwater in all these years.
IMO all major sports playing university's need to act proactively and let fans know what isn't acceptable. Usually all that’s needed are a few arrest and well placed emails and articles in student news papers.

Cowboy organge 10:59 a.m.berry, u mentioned OSU's PR firm. Can you shed a little lite to us about it?
Berry Tramel 11:00 a.m.OSU has hired a professional PR firm to help it through dicey situations. SI, Sutton's car crash, Marcus Smart. Good business.

I don't think Tramel has time to do that....
But Gundy at war with the media is not something Tramel would just make up.
jerrywall 02-13-2014, 05:26 PM I think the question is less one for a profession sports reporter and more for a reported OU fan who seems obsessed with a different school.
ylouder 02-13-2014, 05:54 PM I considered this thread dead about 2-3 days ago besides the post about having posted rules for fans which was a great idea.
Now it just seems like OU 48 is about as obsessive as Orr. You seriously need a break, go outside for a littlw while.

Or, its far more likely a case of touching raw nerves of people who are living in a state of denial and or refuse to give informed honest appraisals.
Everything SI printed was backed by tapes and vetted by expert attorneys. Yet few poke here seem to be willing to admit that with each new part added to the entire puzzle that a big picture is developing that sure looks like it will require significant personal changes in a variety of high poke places.
I know there are many pokes who care about their own integrity. But its too bad that way too many don't have the self-esteem necessary to not allow their feelings to be hurt. Good poke fans should openly and fully discuss the problems that have gone on for years in some cases and think about a plan of corrective action..... then contact the right officials including the Governor.
jerrywall 02-13-2014, 09:43 PM Now stuff is just getting made up. It's rather pathetic.
CuatrodeMayo 02-14-2014, 09:04 AM This thread has become quite entertaining to read.
If the Pokes on here would just admit that their school sucks, their athletic department is a joke and Henry Iba was a cross dressing potty mouth who wore cheap panty hose then I'm sure we good guys can move on past this. Is that too much to ask.

"Correct"
"I'll take Silly Costumes of the Big 12 for 400 Alex."

I believe we are finding out that yes it is possible

Let's please not give KSU any credit. Their entire student section routinely chanted "F*CK KU" and threw double birds at the players half the night (along with a good portion of the old timers section). Their fans have so much hate for our players it's outrageous. I don't know how that didn't get any media attention, especially right after this Marcus Smart fiasco and the debate about the crowd.
