These neon motel signs were once a dime-a-dozen along former Route 66. The old Carlyle Motel sign is a perfect example. The historic sign was relatively recently replaced by a bland, modern backlit sign.

Over the past decade it seems like the last remaining ones are starting to disappear. Are there any of these signs left in the OKC area that are fully functional?

Wow...I can't even begin to recall how many pics I took of all the Neon signs with my Brownie camera when we went on vacations. Thanks for the memory!

Not thinking of any motel signs off top of my head. Isn't the old Winchester drive-in sign a honking big stack of neon?

The sign is still up, on old 66 but not OKC. Bethany. Do not recall if the neon is working.

Lincoln used to have dozens, but as the street was cleaned up in the 80s and 90s they disappeared. Same with 39th/66. I've always been curious if they all went separate ways or if there is a magnificent boneyard somewhere in town with sign cans waiting to be brought back to life.

I thought some guy in Chickasha has a bunch in storage that he's collected for years ?

What's the thing with their departure? Are they expensive to maintain?
