Yes, they have UCO, however I have heard the rent keeps getting harder to pay, and that people within Edmond (probably coaches and parents) would prefer their own stadium like PC and Moore. Thoughts?

That UCO facility is very nice these days, is very well located and has plenty of parking.

Perhaps they should pass a bond issue to build a new stadium then use that as leverage for more reasonable rent from UCO.

After all, who else is going to lease it on Thursday and Friday nights if not the Edmond high schools? Anything the Edmond schools pays them is just pure profit.

Guess I would have to wonder why UCO would purposely price the rent out of the window, when the stadium sits empty the rest of the time? Doesn't make sense to me. Unless there are some other reasons UCO is just wanting to get out of the stadium rental business, and jacking up rents is the easiest way to do it???

I remember late last November one of the state 6A semifinal games was rumored as going to be played at UCO, but when it went "official" they played it at Yukon High School. Wonder if something similar on the rents played out with OSSAA, too?

UCO makes for a really nice venue, that's for sure. If the folks in Edmond want to pay to build one, power to 'em...

Yes, there is a desire, and I think they should. Especially with a 4th high school on the horizon, having an additional venue to UCO would be helpful with scheduling. UCO has made some "interesting/unpopular" policy and pricing changes in the past few years, and it's resulted in some moved and cancelled events.

Santa Fe has the land availability to accommodate a stadium and parking.

Could you elaborate on that? Just curious/nosy :)

Unrelated to sports, we used to host our company Christmas party there several years ago, and they were pretty agreeable. Now, I realize that's a far cry from renting out a football stadium, but I'd be curious what kind of policy changes they made.

I can't go into specifics publicly, but they've made changes to policies which affect how schools and orgs can generate income at sporting events. They've also made some other changes which have resulted in events being pulled.

There's a reason why there are no more DCI shows at Wantland after several very successful years. The UCO bureaucracy is becoming problematic.

Why though?

Sorry, can't get into it without revealing my source, which is a long time friend. But the fact is if it weren't for the ridiculous bureaucracy at UCO these days, we'd still have DCI shows. I suspect some of that is part of why others are reporting issues there, stadium wise.

As a UCO alum I'm fairly indifferent. If they are charging an outrageous amount, then maybe they should build a stadium. I would do what's in the best interest of the school.

Not to derail but I've wondered if Moore should build a more centrally located stadium and use the land for Moore High to expand.

They just poured a rather substantial pile of fresh bond money to build a brand new press box and upper seating area for the existing stadium, on top of new locker rooms and video scoreboard just a few years ago, so I don't think a new stadium is in the offing any time soon.

There are stories that a group of Moore business types did make a rather significant proposal a few years ago to the district to help finance and construct a monstrous multipurpose athletic complex apparently akin to something in Southlake, TX (don't know what that would be, just what I heard) right in the heart of Moore - track, softball, football - a really huge undertaking - but the district rejected the plan. No idea why, and no real specifics beyond that. Only other thing I heard was that the business owners that approached the district were stunned they didn't want it. Not sure how closely that tied in with the upgrades to the existing Moore Stadium.... Certainly lots of details in there, to be sure, and I readily acknowledge what I heard was entirely second-hand, so perhaps parts of it (or all) are completely wrong....if it were true, it sounded like a really neat, ambitious plan from the private sector to support the school district in a lot of different sports, not just football...but c'est la vie.

That's interesting. I was just reading a few weeks back about the proposal to buy the nursing home next door to the school and got to thinking that the location of the stadium really isn't very good for the other 2 high schools and since they were saying Moore High is going to need to expand one day, why not build a big stadium in between the 3 schools. I really don't know much about how the schools athletics work but if the other 2 high schools have bus kids to Moore High for their sports I think that's pretty bad efficiency.

A new stadium really would be needed. It's pretty tough for 3 high schools to only use one stadium better yet 4. My guess is that they would need to build another stadium and utilize both UCO and the new stadium. I have a feeling that a lot of politics would be involved and this new stadium would need to be on neutral territory (not on a current schools land). Edmond does own a lot of land out at Covell and I-35.
