Leighton said the development will feature high-end retail, office and restaurants spaces. He said a bank or pad site uses could be a possibility as well.
“We are still working with our architect to get the site plan where we want it but hopefully we will start some [ground] work later this year and start the [pad site] work off with two retail buildings and two office buildings in early 2018.”

The Fire Science Academy areas of the facility will also include specialized simulators for training in hazardous materials fires and spills, civil aircraft and below-grade rescue in earth collapse extrications.

Dallas-Fort Worth was already the top apartment building market in the country before starts increased by more than 95 percent in the first two months of 2017.
Almost 30,000 new apartments will open their doors here in 2017.
Less than 5 percent of North Texas' rental units are empty. And average rents have gone up by almost 6 percent in the last year.
But with employment growth in the area still running over 100,000 new jobs a year, apartment analysts and builders are optimistic that the market won't get overbuilt.

The initial phase totaling $113 million with 300,000 square feet of space is slated to be completed in 2019.
"This will be the headquarters for our specialty pharmaceuticals and will be the headquarters for operations throughout the United State and the world," James Frary, executive vice president and president of AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group, told the Dallas Business Journal.
This is the first step in the divisional corporate campus — a two-phased development — becoming a reality and giving AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group a place to relocate about 1,200 existing employees to the campus in 2019.
In the next 10 years, AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group plans to hire an additional 1,100 employees with the hopes of bringing its North Texas employee base to 3,000 associates.
Gensler helped create a collaborative campus that marries the beauty of the outdoor space on a bluff overlooking a creek bed and a water feature with an open interior with floor-to-ceiling windows and modern, clean lines.

Hall said the 183-room Hall Arts hotel will be operated by Virginia-based Crescent Hotels & Resorts, which also has downtown's historic Adolphus Hotel.
"The hotel will be different from the Ritz or the Mansion in that it's going to be more arts-oriented," Hall said. "It's a boutique and intended to be intimate with more a residential feel.
"There will be a really heavy emphasis on the artwork."
The building will have four swimming pools, entertaining rooms for the residences, a fitness center and wine storage room.
"We are doing 60 percent of the units finished out and offering 40 percent as shell space," Hall said.
Hall said the entire project will take just over two years to complete.

Sic'EmBears 05-01-2017, 09:02 PM New Dallas condo development in Cedars gets nearly $10M to kick off project (http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news/2017/05/01/new-dallas-condo-development-in-cedars-gets-nearly.html)

The 62-unit project, called Destination Residences, will span a multi-story condominium project in the up-and-coming urban neighborhood just south of downtown Dallas.
The development team plans to use an existing parking garage on the site that will help them "move quickly," on building the multi-story condo building, Laub said.
"This isn't a proven market," he said. "There are not a lot of condo products down there and this is an untapped market for this type of product — particularly at the price point they plan to deliver them at."

Dallas developer Bill Cawley has begun his next office building along the Dallas North Tollway, between Belt Line Road and Spring Valley Road, which will bring the new home for Occidental Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: OXY) to fruition.
Oxy's chemical division signed a lease for roughly half the building — or 120,000 square feet of office space — in a long-term deal. The remainder of the building will be put on the market.
The six-story, 240,000-square-foot building, known as Fourteen 555, sits at 14555 Dallas Parkway in Addison.
"Like Tollway Center and Knoll Trail Plaza, Fourteen 555 features a state-of-the-art fitness center, conference center and our signature rooftop terrace," said Cawley, CEO of Dallas-based Cawley Partners, in a statement.
"However, all of the amenities for Fourteen 555 will be located in a separate amenity building called The Hub, which will also feature a large courtyard," he added. "Tenants and their employees look for walkability in the new office space."
Construction is slated for completion in September 2018.

A Dallas-based development group, NBKW Partners LLC, plans to build a new seven-story condominium residence that will bring up to 100 new single-family homes to Dallas' White Rock Lake neighborhood.
The condominium, called The Drake at White Rock, could appeal to first-time buyers, empty nesters and residents attracted to the natural beauty of White Rock Lake, said Al Coker, owner of Al Coker & Associates, who is marketing the development.
The condo homes will be priced from $290,000 to $750,000 based on the size of the home and its finishes. The project will include one-, two- and three-bedroom options with expansive balconies and a number of community amenities.

The city of McKinney voted to contribute $18 million in economic incentives, including a $5 million construction loan and a $3 million grant upon completion of the project on an 8-acre parcel at Collin McKinney Parkway and Weiskopf Avenue in Craig Ranch from the McKinney Community Development Corp.
The remainder of the economic incentives will come from the reimbursement of tax dollars generated by the 285-room and suite hotel, with a 75 percent reimbursement of sales, property and hotel occupancy taxes in year 1 through year 5.
The hotel and conference center, which is planned as a Marriott Autograph Collection, will bring 33,000 square feet of meeting space to McKinney, as well as restaurants and eateries for guests.
The resort's amenities will include a resort-style lazy river, outdoor fire pits, concierge services and valet parking.
Construction will begin on the hotel and conference center this summer, with the resort slated to open in the Craig Ranch master-planned community by fall 2019.

There are many variables to consider.
How long is your trip? Where will you stay? Will you have transportation? What interests you?

Crow Holdings-Capital Real Estate will build the 1.2 million-square-foot warehouse campus near the southwest corner of Interstates 20 and 35E in Lancaster.
Called I-35 Logistics Crossing, the project will have twin 610,806-square-foot warehouse buildings at the corner of Houston School and Wintergreen roads.
Ben Doherty with Crow Holdings said the company is "very bullish on the D-FW market, especially Dallas' southern sector, because of strong industrial absorption levels in the region reinforced by continued population growth.

I'm staying for 2 nights at the Omni hotel downtown, and I will be driving there from OKC. Are there any historic places I should see? What are the best places for BBQ in the area? Are there any local restaurants I should try? (anything except fish.)
* Twisted Root (I know it's kind of a chain now) was always one of my favorites. The Deep Ellum one was the best, but they added one when I lived their right near SMU.
* Dream Cafe was our favorite breakfast spot.
* Wild About Harry's - more of a cultural visit than a place to get good food.
None of these are best of, but they were all places we had fun going to.
As far as places to see, we always enjoyed the Dallas World Aquarium (the one downtown). Honestly, because of where we lived, we just enjoyed spending evenings on Greenville Ave & Knox Street & our favorite quiet park Caruth Park in University Park (we had one child already so keep that in mind).

You should enjoy the OMNI. The hotel is impressive, and the reviews are quite good.
Should you have any questions with your itinerary, I'd be happy to help.
