While I have been to stockyards city (went to buy manure for my garden), I had never had a reason to before. There is precious little promotion of the place to locals. It is my experience that unless a person has lived in OKC a long time most don't even know what it is.

I worked in Stockyards City for 3 years. Interesting experience. Nice people there.

I was there a year ago and there was a bus full of Asian tourists (I believe Japanese). These tourists were in the district for a couple hours spending loads of money on hats, boots, and western type of souvenirs. They were all around the area taking pictures of everything cowboy related. But I agree that this area does not promote itself that much to the common non-cowboy type of person.

You'll be OK , betts. I live about 2 miles from the one in NW OKC and manage to resist most of the time. :)
